“Don't book”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 August 2011

After booking well in advance we found out 24 hours before we flew that the hotel was overbooked - the tour operator completed blamed the hotel for been greedy and making sure they would be full. We actually paid a visit to this hotel, after been relocated, and was relieved we never went. The place looked dirty and unkept, the kids pool had grass growing from the water features and we saw dogs running around the place.

When we got to our 'new' hotel the holiday rep even slagged the place off for not been very good and out of the way

Don't get let down by the rip off management - book somewhere else

Returned on 7th July 2011.
We booked this holiday in August last year through First Choice for my Mother who is in a wheelchair my Father my Wife, three children and myself in two rooms. When we made the booking the hotel was advertised as the Miraluna Village and it said in the brochure it had everything for us and the children and it was also alright for wheelchairs.

When we got the tickets for the holiday the hotel was then listed as the Kiotari Seaside we questioned this with the travel company who said that they would have to find out why this was, after about a day we were told that the hotel was the same place and that it had changed name at the beginning of the season we accepted this and decided to go.

When we arrived at the complex we found out that it is two complexes in one you have the Miraluna and then you have the Kiotari Bay the latter is where both our rooms were. The rooms we were given were clean and have the basics a fridge and air conditioning my Mother asked for a kettle which the hotel agreed to put in. The good thing about my Mother and Fathers room is that it had it's own private swimming pool which I believe you have to pay for which we didn't, we could only conclude that the reason for this is that my Mother was in a wheelchair and needed something on the ground floor and close to the restaurant but anyway the pool was welcomed by the children.

The problems started the next day when we were out looking around, the complex consists of three main areas there is the Taverna at the top this consists of a large pool area with sunbeds there is a buffet style snack bar which we were told starts at 10am and goes straight through to 12pm but this is not the case the food stopped at around 11.30am and came back around 1.15pm then at 3.30pm the food stopped while around 6pm it did then go while midnight but the choice was very hit and miss not really serving snacks such as chips, burgers, hot dogs etc. but more like full meals. In the Taverna is a self service bar with soft drinks and beer on tap but you could wait a while for the plastic beakers there is also a freezer for ice cream which you serve yourself but once the freezer was empty that was it this happened around 5.30pm.

Walking down the complex you pass the Miriluna reception then you come to the main reception which is 24 hours with a shop which is extremely expensive and never has any change so if planning on using this please make sure you have change. The reception has a machine for the wifi internet this is quite good value with 24 hours access costing just eight euro and so long as you log off when finished the 24 hours could easily last you a two week holiday although we had bad experience with the internet as it was down for about a week in the middle of the holiday. In the reception area is a bar but be warned this in not included in the all inclusive and this seems rather unfair as the hotel was sold to us as all inclusive I was told by another guest that the price of a pint in the bar is 4.50€ but I cannot confirm this.

Underneath the reception is the main restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner we were very disgusted with the choice of food as they only seemed to cater for the non British guests serving plenty of rice, pasta, salad, fish heads and other disgusting things on the odd occasion you could get roast beef and chicken pieces but not much else to go with it on our second week chips was served only twice not good for the children. The breakfast wasn't good you couldn't even have beans on toast as the beans looked like white kidney beans and were as hard as rock. Throughout our entire stay we saw beefburgers only three times in both food areas the coffee machines were also no good as they only seemed to give out black coffee and this was like tar. We were regularly waiting for cups and glasses and at busy times it was hard to get a table.

Below the restaurant is the main pool area with a bar only this is where the main daytime entertainment is the bar has someone working there all the time but no ice creams or snacks if you want this it is a trek up to the Taverna not very welcome when you have got comfortable around the pool. This bar is open till midnight but at busy time be prepared for a long wait as there is still only one person working there serving drinks.

At the bottom end of the complex is the pirate ship and another bar serving drinks and ice cream but no snacks so again if you are relaxing down this end of the complex you have a long walk if you fancy something to eat this bar has a barman but again at busy time he is pushed to serve.

There is plenty of pools on the complex and all were looked after and cleaned regularly the beach is only a minute walk from the pirate ship but this is very pebbly there is sunbeds and a bar on the beach but you have to pay seems silly as they belong to the hotel.

One last thing is the Amphitheatre this is located between the pirate ship and beach and this is where the entertainment is the entertainment is supplied by the animation team who were good but it got a bit boring some nights the bar in this area was not open so you had to trail to the pirate ship bar. The entertainment includes a kids disco which starts at 8.30 again a bit boring but the kids enjoy it.

On this complex there seemed to be every nationality of Europe and the UK guests were definitely in the minority it took Kay who is an English girl who works with the Animation team to get the British families together and in the first week there were around twelve English speaking children.

We have just returned from a gorgeous week spent in the Kiotari Hotel Rhodes. I was a little dubious at first as I had booked the holiday and then started to read the mixed reviews, however it was absolutely brilliant. We arrived late at night and after checking in was shown without any fuss to our room. The next morning we decided to go to breakfast which was about a minute walk away to the hotel restaurant. After breakfast my 4 year old daughter wanted to go to the pool, she and my husbanded splashed about while I laid back and relaxed, from then on the week just got better and better. The complex is huge, with 9 swimming pools, bars, outside theatre, ampitheatre, park and much more. We didn't want to leave the complex, but we discovered that a train (tractor) stopped daily to take you to the nearest village Kiotari and then for an hours tour and back to the hotel, so we decided to go on it, it first stops at Kiotari and then you can get off and stay on for the hour tour, it passess numerous taverns and restaurants and along the coast line, and my daughter loved it. Also next to the Kiotari hotel is another huge posh hotel which we discovered after going pass on the train has its very own water part, so the next day we walked for about 10 minutes to the hotels reception and after paying 10 euros each we were taken by the porter on a golf cart to the opening of the water park. You could spend all day here until 6pm. I could go on and on about this lovely place, but thankfully I hear you say, I won't. I would just like to add that I found everything great about the resort, the food, staff, hotel, well just everything!

Room Tip: Wish we had upgrade to have our own pool

Apart from lack of information from the hotel as to the layout of its facilities we had an enjoyable holiday here, rooms were better than expected ,comfortable, clean, quiet, private and safe.Food and catering staff were excellent, what really set this hotel in a class of its own was the excellent animation team who worked tirelessly and cheerfully and were very successful in entertaining all nationalities and ages in a tasteful way with original material - during the day and night. They were the most skilled and professional team we have ever seen. Cant understand why they dont feature in the advertising. Never saw a holiday rep, never needed to, local bus service works fine but be aware of the distance and duration of a trip into Rhodes town - 2hrs each way - well worth it to visit the Old Town, but can get busy and hot, similarly Lindos (but much closer) Happy to say the hotel had a pleasant atmosphere and seemed to be used by respectable, respectfulpeople

Room Tip: various types of room, none 'bad'

Recently returned from a week at this hotel, our first time to Rhodes, we had a great holiday. Our original booking through Thomsons was in the Kiotari Seaside but for a small supplement upgraded to a family room with pool view, although there were two of us, as these rooms are based in the Miraluna. Well worth the extra, lovely room complete with kettle, fridge, hairdryer, dvd {though didn't use} plus robes and slippers! We were issued with shiny purple bands which also entitled us to eat breakfast and dinner in the Miraluna restaurant as well as the Kiotari. We ate the majority of our meals in the Miraluna as it was not as hetic. The food was very good although more seafood would have been appreciated, not a huge choice but everything was well presented with different menus each evening. House wine, in carafes, was perfectly acceptable but if you have a finer palate superior wines were available to purchase. We always dined on the terrace with lovely views of the mountains and sea. Lunch is served in the Kiotari but we only did this once as it was like a feeding frenzy. We probably went at the worst time, 1pm but thereafter just had a snack at the Taverna near the entrance which we preferred, although there wasn't a huge choice it was enough for lunch, with drinks on tap.

The nine swimming pools are amazing and were never crowded when we where there. Sunbeds and fixed, thatched parasols are well spaced and no need to get up at the crack of dawn to claim a space. Within yards of the entrance are the first 5 pools, one of which was behind our small block, we were spoilt for choice. Further down is the Kiotari pool and bar and on again the childrens' pool complete with pirate ship which was great for them and those who preferred the quieter pools. Nearby was the mini-golf, playground and a further Taverna. Plenty to keep everyone happy.

There are plenty of terraces and reception areas to sit with a drink but not so good was the Zeus pay bar, although some nationalities seemed to not to pay. There are several different coloured bands but purple and orange didn't appear to qualify. We didn't really bother much with the evening entertainment which took place around the pool bar, although we understand during peak season it takes place in the ampfitheatre. The queues for drinks were long and with only one bartender it took an age to get a drink.

The beach is shingles and pebbles but kept tidy and clean. Sunbeds cost three euros each which is a bit of a rip off considering they belong to the hotel. The beach bar also charges for drinks so we spent most of our time around the pools.

Bus services to Pefkos, Lindos, Rhodes etc were cheap and reliable, taxis to local resorts were also reasonable. We ventured into Pefkos to eat at the Anixis family run restaurant as it was recommended by a friend who visits every year. Lovely greek experience and food with fantastic views of the sea and the sun setting behind the mountains. We paid just over seventy euros for drinks, wine and three courses for four.

Would definately return to this hotel as we had a lovely chilled week.

Just come back from a 2 week stay at this hotel.
First impressions were good, check in was quick and easy, reception staff friendly and showed us to our room. Room was a typical 3/4* hotel room, fairly simple but immaculate so that was the main thing. Had to share a balcony with next door but that didnt really bother us.

Swimming pools were lovely, plenty of them and nice & warm. There is a few pools at the top of the complex which are really quiet but we preferred to be at the main pools as this is where the activities took place. The kids pools were at the bottom of the complex but there wasnt much shade and the floor was really slippy. My boy fell down nearly every time we went down there!

The entertainment team worked hard, did things like aqua gym, darts, french bowls and water polo during the day, had a mini disco at night for the kids which they loved and then did a bit of a show after that. The italians had 2 entertainment teams just for themselves one of which 'volando' would not even look at other guests and would not let other nationalities join in their activities, but the other one 'eden village' included everyone.

The quality of the the food was ok but there was only one side of the dining room open and it was like feeding time at the zoo! The waitressess were a bit miserable but I would be if I worked for their boss. He was one of the rudest people I have ever met.
Getting snack between meals was hassle. You have to go to the taverna at the top of the complex for food but had to go to the bar at the very bottom for ice cream.

The biggest down side of this hotel is the bar. You could not get things like malibu and baileys on all inclusive and you could only have wine at meal times. If you wanted these you had to buy them at the bar behind reception but you had to drink them at that bar you couldnt take them to the entertainment area. Otherwise you got told off!! Also in the evening where they did the entertainment ther was only one man on the bar so queues were massive. It took about 25 minutes to get served. In the end we used to go down to the bar near the beach and bring the drinks up which took about 10 minutes. Some people brought drinks from the dining room to save queuing but again you got told off for doing that.

The beach in front of the hotel was a pebble one but the sea was nice. It took about 25 minutes to walk to Kiotari but there is no pavement so not easy with young children. To be honest there wasnt much there not worth the walk.

Overall we had a good holiday but would not go back.

We booked the Miraluna in a superior room, which promised us tea and coffee making facilities and a dvd player. when we arrived we were given a room in the older block of the kiatori bay overlooking the main pool. No tea making no dvd, we asked reception why we were not in the superior room we had booked and he told us that we were but they had forgotton to put in the facilities and would do so straight away. A guy turned up with a tray with kettle teabags etc and a dvd player, and although there was no plug socket for the dvd player and we were quite clearly not in a superior room, the room was adequate and the view was lovely so we were happy to stay put. However, the following day the maid took all of our 'facilities' away again ( well, they lady receptionist explained, they were not supposed to be in that room!) they had to be rounded up again and redelivered. she also left our patio door unlocked, and in this block you share a patio with your neighbours (smokers so that wasnt nice!) and therefore it was not safe to leave doors unlocked. but the biggest problem came on our second night, when at half eight the animation team started the evening entertainment below our room and the bed started shaking! I went away for peace and quiet after being ill and this was just to much. We went down to see the reception man again, and was by now prepared to demand the room i had paid for, he still insisted we were in a 'superior room' but could not answer when we asked him where the socket for the dvd palyer was then (he actually said the maintanance man was going to sort that out - a complete rewire just for us!!) He told us to return the next day and at lunchtime we were given a key to a room in the miraluna part of the complex. WOW, what a difference! lovely room, tea and coffeee facilities new furniture, lovely view, private balcony. - our holiday began! the only downside to this room was that the maid wasnt as fussy as the one in the previous room but thats down to one individual because on the whole the complex was spotless. The food was served in the main restuarant in the kiotari section and was nice, hot tasty and plenty of choice, however it was a bit like a cattlemarket with sooo many people and you felt you had to gobble your food as people were wandering around looking for a table, halfway through our stay they opened the miraluna restuarant for miraluna guests only and that was lovely, same food but much less busy and more relaxed dining. The staff were all friendly and the animation team excellent, didnt badger you if you said no thanks as they do in other places which was a nice change. the beach was stony so take footwear! the complex is very remote so do expect to use the buses or hire a car if you want to go out. overall, we had a lovely holiday here, it is just a shame that they seem (in my opinion) to rate their english guests less highly than other nationalities (we did not hear one single english voice in the miraluna section once we were moved, they all seemed to be in the older kiatori block) several other english guests were also unhappy not to have the suerior rooms they paid for but reception would not move them and actually thought we had started a revolt (we didnt, but other guests were understandably wanting the facilities they had paid for too) I am sure that you will enjoy your holiday here, but just check your paperwork and be prepared to argue for what you paid for. from reception onwards is the kiatori and the newer buildings at the front are miraluna (look at the signpost out front, it confirms this). Just need to add, dont bother taking your sport gear, as we did, cos every machine in the gym was broken, my hubby went running in the street, i was to afraid cos there are no pavements but i put on half a stone as a result!

Room Tip: check your paperwork, and put your foot down.
