“Double booked”
Reviewed 3 November 2013

We arrived to be told we were double booked along with a number of others, and told we had to transfer to the sister hotel. After being told we could return the next day at 12:00 we were shuttled to the sister hotel in a derelict transit van which had no door to stop people falling out (it had been missing since 2003!!!!).
When we arrived back at reception the next day at the agreed time we were told the room would be another 3 hours, and then were accused of lying by the reception staff. We were not happy!! Beware of promises from the reception staff they were not helpful and were very rude.
Once we eventually got our room the rest of the holiday was excellent.
The rooms were a good size, the mini bar was topped up daily, and the rooms were cleaned daily.
The food in the restaurant was excellent and the service from the staff good. From other reports we were concerned that the food was going to be samey but found a great choice on each sitting.
We spent most days on the beach, and enjoyed the beach and the beach bar.
The initial problems did overshadow the holiday initially but with great weather and the excellent food and beach overall the holiday was good value.

We booked through Low cost holidays.com and got a great deal of 1 week all inclusive at the beginning of October 13 and paid only 700 pounds for two of us. We arrived on time with Ryanair from Liverpool and transferred to our resort. Great flights and transfers. Welcomed warmly at check in and allocated our room. The room was clean and a good size with a nice balcony. TV didn't work and was ancient. Bathroom was large and up to date. Secure safe in the room.
Daily maid service was excellent and fresh towels every day.
The hotel was large and airy with nice seating areas with free WIFI in reception. The pools both outdoor and indoor were freezing cold but there were plenty sun loungers and parasols for everyone. 20 euro deposit per beach towels was a bit steep but at least it left us some money for the airport and return journey.
The main buffet restaurant was clean and the waiter service was excellent. You must go to the themed restaurants as they are excellent and their Managers too, Georgia and Elvi were superb with us at the Italian and Chinese restaurants. I proposed to my partner Emma after our meal and the staff looked after us before, during and after the proposal. We had a great time, Emma did say 'Yes' too.
The buffet in the main restaurant got repetitive and I struggled with breakfast as fried egg on toast every day took its toll.
Babs of the entertainment team did her very best to get us to the shows in the evening and she was very professional and friendly in her approach. But, once you have seen 1 show at an all inclusive, they are much the same. Unless you have the kids with you of course.
The beach area was a little bit of a let down but has plenty of sunbeds. The beach is pebbly and you sink in while walking. Beach shoes a requirement. We walked out along the sea front road south and there are some spectacular views and some lovely local taverna's for a real pint of Greek beer Mythos, well woth a visit.
The drinks are what you expect in this type of all inclusive, drinkable but not the best and after a few days we craved a real pint of ice cold lager and a better quality of white wine. We got that across the road at a great bar called GreCafe. Also as we were wanting a change of food, the snacks there were lovely too. They showed all the football games too so I spent a great afternoon with some other lads from our hotel watching the football with a few pints.
The vodka and other spirits were all local in the hotel too, again drinkable but I bought bottles of Smirnoff vodka for the room, luckily we had a fridge in there to keep it cool along with a proper bottle of white wine. Great to sit out on the balcony for the last hour of sun with a proper drink.
The hotel staff were very friendly, but can you can clearly see the effects of the Greek recession and cut backs they and the hotel are having to make. I tipped our bar staff regularly and the waiters during our stay, they do tend to look after you more. All in all we had a great time and a very memorable holiday. I would say it is not 5 star but a good 3.5 or 4 tops. But thank you for a great holiday.....We would return to the island of Rhodes. Also to mention the staff in the Spa. Very good and the deep tissue massage was great value, thank you Anna.

Room Tip: Ask for sea front/view bungalow

This was an all inclusive last minute deal, and although you read reviews ,you never know what to expect, you know it will not be bad(otherwise you wouldnt go)........Well from the moment we got there it was great, the only downside is the amount of steps within the hotel, but i dont think they could of been that bad as we met a 90 year old gentleman there who managed them well..The pool was small but what was lovely was the childrens pool and play area and would be great for a family with small children.
The food was very good, the choice was out of this world, and was so fresh as it was constantly being replenished. The staff were very attentive but not overpowering, the restaurant manager is an outstanding example of how well a large restaurant can be ran.
The spa is well worth a visit too.
It is the end of the season now so anyone who arrives after 30/10 may be dissapointed that the beach bar,and the water sport centre, along with the spa will of closed down so i recommend to visit before then.
There is also an Italian,a Chinese and a Greek restaurant on site which are part of the all inc deal;we went to the Chinese and Italian but in all honesty the choice was so good in the main restaurant there really isnt a need to...What i believe would improve the complex would be an Indian themed restaurant ....Would definately stay again at a hotel owned by the Mitsis group, and the hotel in Kos is superior to rodos so thats where we will be heading next time

We have just got back from 2 weeks at the Maris and as always we loved every minute, a big big thank you to everyone there from Dionissis and Tsambikos to Natasha and Barbara (our cleaners).
In the main restaurant there was always a choice so even fussy me didn't go hungary,we did eat in the Greek and Asian a couple of times thanks Irini, and we enjoyed them, the Asian had a new menu which was very good.We ate in the Italian at lunch time which we always enjoy,Georgia,Jordan and everyone make it a really pleasurable experiance.Talking about the food we have to mention the man who seems to be everywhere at once but always has a smile and a friendly "Yassou" take a bow Tasos Chrysanthos.
We had a nice room near the bridge (which made walking back to the room at night with drinks an experience) but we did have the view of the sea and on the left Pefkos so it was worth the walk.
So once again a big thank you to everyone and see you all next year.

ARRIVAL - Lovely big reception and checked in efficiently by Nicol who was very helpful.
RESTAURANTS
One main - very large with plenty of staff.Inside and outside tables - Really nice to have coffee/ breakfast on the veranda with the little sparrows popping about. Vast selection to cater for all tastes but lunch/dinner a bit 'samey'... hence the other restaurants....Italian, Chinese and Greek. YOU MUST BOOK for 2 days in advance so do it on arrival and don't forget to keep booking - it worked well and was not a problem for us if one not available another was. Our fav was the Italian outside eating with fresh hand made pizzas, meat balls, salads and BRILLIANT STAFF-THANK YOU GEORGINA AND GUYS FROM METAXA BOY! LOL! x
ROOM & BARS RESORT POOLS ETC
We had a family bungalow 803 opposite little shop as it was a good deal and late booking. Very close to pool and main bar and restaurants but we were not disturbed. Comfortable with an upstairs gallery bedroom spacious living area and bathroom - good shower. Sink moved a little but was safe and had no plug but was not an issue. Yes room was a little dark but hello, open curtains and doors and let in the light and sun, the Med is there to be seen! room safe costs £20 a week if needed. Cleaned daily, m/fridge refilled every other day and clean towels every day. A/C worked very well if needed. 3 pools - small quiet pool nicely tucked away, main pool with bar (not swim up) and great kids pool with water slide and animation. This didn't seem to impact on each of the pools so worked well. Pool was clean but a bit chilly, time of year one thinks. Main inside bar and reception area has plenty of seating in and out. Drinks are local/greek but nice and hit the spot
-wine slightly weakened but not a bad thing, the red is nice and ask for a carafe. 2 main bar men are great - get to know them and drinks are there before you are! Also small café/bar on the mid balcony which serves snacks tea coffee and alcoholic drinks is busy but invaluable, just be patient, the staff are always busy and appear curt but take time to smile, get to know them and alls well. Tennis courts are fine, easy to book -we took own gear so cant comment on theirs. Animation was ok and good for keeping the kids entertained. Shop well stocked and not badly priced, wifi café worked well and free but a little slow.
WEATHER
Went out first 2 weeks of October 2013. Weather very good 25 -30 degrees, sea temp about 22 so a little chilly but really nice to cool down when needed. 2 days of cold wind but sunny and this soon changed to the warmer, hotter days.
BEACH SEA AND BEACH BAR
Beach is clean and mostly sandy and as stated does have a 15 foot wide strip of pebbles before you enter the sea which are fine to walk on barefoot but easier with F/flops to leave on the edge to come back with! Sea has lovely coloured tiny tiny pebbles along a small drop off of about 3 foot which does catch a few people out getting in and out first time but is really no problem. If you go out to the edge of the buoys (30ft off shore) the sea bed slopes up to about 5ft so you can stand and is beautiful soft sand. Clear water makes for great snorkelling with lots of fish - even octopus! Usual off shore activity's such kayaking, jet ski, crazy sofas, sailing and yacht rental. Water polo and football run by Anton of animation (thank you! from Clarke!) twice a day and doesn't interfere with the peace and quiet. Beach bar brilliant (T/you Mike and Debbie (Despina) any drinks and ham and cheese toasties on demand. Excellent!
CONCLUSION and OTHER INFO
Small night club 10 minute walk along the beach road and off site, pretty good fun. Bus service to Lindos and Rhodes, easy and runs on time. E.g, Lindos- £5pp return from bus stop outside hotel. A few shops and super market (Carrafour) opposite and car and scooter rental shops. To the left of hotel 2 mins walk are a few more shops and Dimitris rental shop - very good. Small on road train does a route around the area for a few £s and good to get your bearings. Get your duty free at airport as £3-4 cheaper Eg 1l Mataxa brandy 19 euros in Carrofour 15.50 euros a/port, also BE WARNED Easy Jet are HOT ON OVERWEIGHT BAGS AND HAND LUGGAGE SIZE -15euros per kg for every kg over weight ,at airport so another good reason to buy at airport as you are allowed 1 duty free bag pp as well as your hand luggage.Overall - Hotel not a 5* more 4* but fantastic all round place, other reviews state to many other nationalities who are , rude, don't queue blah blah etc but you always find a few any where you go and in what ever 'star' resort you stay at - the French love to sing, the Yanks love to brag, the Germans don't laugh and the Russians don't like queuing...relax, chill,... your on holiday! - We would go back.

Room Tip: Family bungalow 803 close to all things, thought we might get disturbed but was fine

It was not first Mitsis hotel we've visited. And this was the disapointing one. First the food: every second day the same dishes and very poor selection. The Italian a la carte Pizza was good (best meal at this hotel). Also Asian a la carte was good, but Greek a la carte was not. Second, too many stairs around reception and main bar, also at the whole hotel territory, it is not convenient for families with babies and trolleys.
The hotel rooms are spacious enough and the staff service is great, except Irina at the reception. She was very rude, I guess she was tired after the summer season, but she's the first face who I see when I enter the hotel...
Gelateria bar (where the animation takes part at the evenings) and indoor pool area are very Uncosy and not nice.
There is bus station in front of the hotel, also some small supermarkets.

After all the weather was great and our family holiday turned out well. The hotel definitely is not 5*, it is maybe 4*... for our friends it looked like 3+*, because they expected much more from European hotel...

Room Tip: Some bungalows on the first floor are occupied by insects (formica).

Back from another great holiday at Mitsis Rodos Maris Resort and Spa. The staff are excellant and we say a big thank you to Sam - deputy manager - Thasos - food and beverages manager, Elsa-waitress in the bar, Georgia and Jordan - Italian, Micheal and Despina - beach bar, Irene - Greek and Chinese, Nikol - reception, Lucas and his side kick - bar, Simona, Barbara and Anton- entertainment. Our holidays there are made all the better because the staff (and apologies if your name is not mentioned) have all worked long hours with very little time of for the last 7 months and still have a smile and take the time to make you feel welcome.
Rooms - The rooms are not a UK 5* rating but they have all you need, robes, slippers, plenty of hot water, clean towels every day, mini bar restocked every second.
Food - The main dining room has plenty of choices Breakfast - Eggs 5 different ways, pancakes, bacon, tomatoes, cereal, yoghurts, fruit, selection of breads, cold meats , cheeses, salads the list could be endless, the same goes for both the lunch and evening meals. The Greek and Chinese menus enough options that every body should be able to find something to eat. The Italian we love it there, great place to sit and relax with friends enjoy a bottle of wine, the food is the same everyday, pasta, pizza, grilled meat and fish, There is no reason for anybody to go hungry while on holiday regardless of where you chose to eat.
Beach - It does dip suddenly (so beware if you have little ones,) and is shingle when you get closer to the waters edge, if like me you have been caught by a wave and knocked over when trying to get out of the water then I'm sure we have given other guests a laugh or two.
All in all you get what you pay for, if you want steak, lobster, a la carte, etc then dont go here, but if you want a great holiday, to meet local people, and generally relax and enjoy yourself then this is the place to go. For us the genuine friendliness of the staff is a huge part of the holiday. The drinks some say are difficult to get, my reply to that is we found that we didnt even have to ask, the drinks were there for us before we had finished the one we had ( and no there were no big tips given at the start of the holiday to get that service ). Already have checked prices out for next May.

Room Tip: For us the best rooms are the bungalows 1st floor with sea view and balcony. Ground floor have a sma...
