We had a great time - very polite friendly and helpful staff. The spa was fantastic and would recommend a treatment. The hotel was neat and clean and quiet - it is about 2km from Bali which is a lovely village and an easy walk although there is a frequent shuttle service and a frequent bus service to Heraklion and Rethymnon from the motorway just outside Bali. Weather was great wish we could staty longer!

We came during low season in April. We had a few days of rain, but otherwise the weather was nice. We had a very nice family room with a balcony overlooking the mountains. Very quiet and pleasant. A swimming pool right next to the room with both shallow end and deep end. There was a tennis court we could use free of charge and it was nice to go jogging down to the little village Bali. The buffet breakfast was plentiful and I can recommend the omelette freshly done according to your taste. In the evening there was also a good buffet. The children loved the ice-cream and dessert buffet. Nice friendly staff. We will definately go here again. Good place to do excursions from, but you need to have a car. They have a spa that seems very nice, but we didn't try it. We never had a look at the fitness center.

We planned to spend few days in this resort, not expecting too much from a last second reservation and a low season vacation. Instead everything was amazing. Brand new facilities, neat and clean. The most polite personnel, available and helpful. Good english spoken. And gorgeous restaurant. The variety and the quality of the food was extremely good. The SPA is spacious and weel arranges.

We stayed in Filion last August and in one word - it was very good. The food and the restaurant were excellent and diverse. It was a taste of a real Greek coisine. I won't repeat everything that other people said, just point out my own remarks.
As to the location - we loved it. It's location is a 5 minutes drive away from the high season noise of tourists' "populated" areas. Its a spectacular setting surrounded by mountain ridges. And you know what is another advantage of this location? During a hot and humid summer season the air up there is much cooler and dryer than near the coast line.
Yes, you will need a car. But you will need a car not because this hotel is not in a central location, but because Crete is such a beautiful island! And, please, bear in mind, Crete is a huge island. Even with a car, it takes hours to get to another side of the island. But it worth the every penny you spend on a car rent.
So back to the hotel: I loved it! The staff was so helpful and nice. The cleaning ladies
worked so hard to leave our room spotless. All facilities are new.
Bottom line - if , one day we come back to Crete, we will definitely stay at Filion's.

Room Tip: Rent a car. You've got to see the island.

I have to question the 5* rating. The hotel was only completed in April this year and the quality of equipment isn’t going to last!
We stayed 21stOct to 27thOct 2011 and occupancy was low. It’s located on a hillside and is quite remote. Due to the surrounding mountains the sun came and went in 5 hours on a good sunny day!
Our room and en-suit was very spacious and clean and we looked out over the main pool area. The en-suite had a nice glass walk-in shower, plus a deep bath and overhead shower, although sometimes we experienced no hot water.
The layout of the 3 pool areas is very good, plus the 3 villas have their own pools. However none of these are heated, so off season are too cold to use.
Restaurant and housekeeping staff were very pleasant; however the manager/owner could take some advice on how to make guests feel welcomed and valued, and his general hospitality skills were lacking.
The food on the whole was average and sometimes not that hot. The price of drinks were typical hotel prices, €3 water and between €12 -€20 for a bottle of local wine. Although there was Happy Hour pricing being displayed on notice boards the hotel didn’t apply the discount.
The hotel runs a mini bus service to the nearest village of Bali which was good. The village has little to offer, apart from numerous car hire shops and just a couple gift/mini market shops. There is a small beach, harbour, and a hand full of bars and eateries.
A lot has been invested in the fabric and facilities of the hotel but I would be unsure if the hotel will be trading in a year’s time, with the worsening exchange rates and the current uncertainty to the Greek economic situation.
In the main if you’re looking for peace and quiet it’s possibly worth a visit, however if it’s entertainment you want look elsewhere. I’m sure the late season booking didn’t help our stay, and perhaps this hotel is at its best in peak season when you can make best use of the pools and outside bar facility.
