“Good service, bad location, no beach”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 May 2008

I can confirm that rooms are pretty large in Xidas hotel, services are good, hotel is runned by family. Food is delicious.
Although - there are unfortunately bad aspects of this hotel.
Firstly, the location. Hotel is situated in the large village, apprx. 400 m from very small and overcrowded Bali beach. If you like nice big beaches, forget to go here, but rent a car and visit other beaches.
Hotel is located next to warehouse of drinks and other staff. From this side, rooms have warehouse-view on yard where trucks are coming and loading their cargo. This warehouse is quite close - apprx. 40 metres. Note, trucks are noisy.

We stayed at this hotel for 10 nights in June. We chose Bali as it was centrally located on the island. Before booking the holiday the only reviews I could find on the hotel were in either Czech, German or Russian. The reviews seemed good so I decided to book, and overall I was very pleased.

We booked a standard room, which was below the swimming pool. The room was basic, but large and clean. It was cleaned every day apart from Sunday, but we only had our towells changed 3 times during our stay. The shower was good, but whatever you did you couldn't avoid getting the bathroom floor very wet. We only had 2 breakfasts at the Hotel, which were continental, and were ok. We did not have any evening meals, because we both feel one of the best things about going to Greece is eating at different tavernas and meeting different friendly Greek people. Some guests seemed to just stay by the pool and at the Hotel all day and night. I could never do that.

The hotel has a good sized swimming pool, has a little internet room and a bar by the pool. We can't comment on the evening food as we didn't eat it, but it always smelt nice! Overall the Hotel is of good Greek standard and is reasonable priced. The owner Costas is very friendly and helpful, and his Swiss partner is also helpful. The Hotel is stayed in by people from all over Europe. To me this is not a problem. When we stayed there were lots of Germans, but they were fine! I didn't notice if they put towells out the night before!

Bali is an excellent quiet resort. Nightlife is low key. It has 3 or 4 public beaches which are all of good quality. One or two of them have the Greek Blue flag. The food is good, and great value. My most expensice main course was £7. I enjoyed my 10 days in Crete, but due to the size of the island wish I had 20. I would definitely recommend Xidas Gardens as it is a good Hotel in an excellent quiet resort. I hope this review has been helpful. At last there is now a review in English!

Xidas Gardens Hotel, Bali, Crete,Greece.
Reviewer: Bournemouth.UK.
June 2007
We have just returned from a lovely holiday in Crete - we booked this through Olympic Holidays via our travel agent. Xidas Gardens is just as described on it's website - a small hotel set in lovely gardens, fair sized pool, plenty of sunbeds etc. The rooms are fairly basic in the original building, but very clean. The rooms in the new part of Xidas Gardens are spacious and have a lovely terrace complete with sun beds and umbrella, plus table and chairs. Food at Xidas was very much Cretan - very 'rustic' and very tasty and very inexpensive. We enjoyed our time there so much that we will make a return visit in September this year. We normally would stay in 4 or 5* hotels, but felt this year we would have a more traditional holiday - it really was a success - thanks to Costos and Katherine and all the really friendly and helpful staff.

  • Liked — Spacious with good decor/ own terrace/own sunbeds and umbrella
  • Disliked — Nothing really
