“Fantastic honeymoon!”
Reviewed 28 January 2014

We stayed at the Gaia Palace for our honeymoon and we were very happy with our choice! The room was clean with a terrace by a pool, the staff were helpful and polite, and the grounds were spacious enough so that we always found a place to sunbathe by one of the pools. The beach is perhaps 10 minutes away on foot but we also went to other beaches and parts of the island by scooter (which we rented without difficulty at the hotel itself). During our week there the majority of the entertainment was geared towards the Italians however it didn't bother us. And the buffet was fine (despite some of the reviews we read). Plenty of hot dishes and lots of fresh salads. We would happily go back!

Stayed in late October - very luck with the weather - 7 days of sun !

Dont know what all the fuss about being a German hotel is all about as we found the hotel a mix of British / German / Dutch / Russian and French guests .... The staff were polite and helpful from start to finish and all spoke good English.

The room was a great with a lovely pool view - cleaned daily with fresh towels.

The food was varied, tastey and there was always plently of it.

The pool area was uncrowded and we always founds sunbeds togther no matter what the time of day.

The all inclusive was good - with the beer and white wine being our favorite ... and there was always plenty of fizz and ice cream for the kids.

All in all we throughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel and would reurn again.

Nice hotel, nice swimming pool, the rooms a really good and clean but the beach is not really nice. Not clean and looks like if you were staying in a camping instead of a 5 stars hotel. 5 stars the hotel doesn't deserve when it comes to food and drinks.... It's a total self service for the breakfast, lunch and dinner. The buffet is not attractive at all, frozen croissant in the morning, no juices but drinks made of powder that you get from a machine.... The menus is repetitive, except a couple of special made by a chef on the front of you, but never amazing (Pizza, pasta or poor quality fish). The drinks..... if you are all inclusive you ll have the right to chose between beer, ouzo, a few soft all coming from a pomp, rum, tequila, and red and white wine which are by the way the worst wine I ever tried... Most of the drinks are poor quality drinks anyway. 2,50 € extra for a cocktail, you'll get to choose between +/- 10 of them, but it's the same story (vodka in daiquiri, wrong measurements, missing ingredients, etc) Staff unfriendly, no organisation for the service. The hotel offers a massages and a sauna which I haven't tried but it looked ok. All in all it will be fine if they improved the food/beverage service. For the Island Itself, except Kos capital city, nothing amazing. The Island must have looked good in the past but tourism is probably killing (even if it's the first economy of the island). Nothing is done to keep it clean, you walk into garbage on the beaches really often. I've so many plastic bottles, bin bags, can of beers and even fridge's doors that It became normal after a while. Kos is for me definitely not the pearl of the Dodecanese! First and last time!!

I agree with some of the previous comments. Having to pay 5 euros for 2 sunbeds and an umbrella is a bit steep on the beach which looks like its part of the all inclusive hotel. This hotel really needs to arrange a shuttle bus into Kos and Mastihari. There is not much to see that is in walking distance. The receptionist said it would take 20 mins to walk to Mastihari, it took over an hour and you take your life in your hands walking along a very busy road with no footpath. A taxi costs 10 euros each way. The bus service is cheap but over crowded and infrequent. The hotel was very clean and the staff very helpful. There were no other Brits staying there when we were there and there was only information books for guests in Polish, German Dutch etc... The bed was very comfortable. The fridge was useless as it was on the same power supply as the lights and aircon, so no coming in on a hot day for a cold drink! The food was luke warm at best and stone cold on the whole. The all inclusive drinks were vile so had to pay for our drinks. We had a pleasant stay but it could have been so much better. Defo not 5* and wouldn't recommend sadly.

We have spent in this hotel one month - july. Staff in this hotel is probbably the best I have every seen !!! The hotel is very clean, the beach is amazing , pools are beautiful.
The food is much better than in most five star resort in Greece.
I am sure it was worth of money we paid for this holiday.
Everything was very good appart from italian animators.
I would live there and working as tennis coach or gardener.

We have just returned from a holiday week at the Gaia Palace. Looking back, we did enjoy the week on Kos (although we found the island a bit lacking in 'things to do and see'). We arrived at the hotel at 2am to find that our names were not on the night staff's list - so, no family room waiting for us at that time in the morning. The chap was absolutely lovely though, admitted it to be the hotel's fault and found us a double room for the night. It did mean that as weary travellers, there was no point in trying to unpack and settle in. Our family room was thankfully superior to the double and as a first for us, had a separate bedroom for our daughter - so, a huge 'room' within one of the many villa blocks in the grounds. We had a good small pool view from a terrace, but what I would say is that heaving luggage up 2 flights of stairs can be challenging! The 'groom' (portering staff) was usually available to help though.
The staff, as most people writing reviews have already said, were all really lovely and helpful. I think our biggest bug-bear was the food. Every day the food was very similar and if meant to be hot, rarely was. Tepid at best I'm afraid and often, looked passable, but tasted bland. The salads were good though. When all inclusive, meal times became very repetitive indeed. When we got home after a week, at 5am, we had a bacon sandwich and it was heaven because it had a real taste to it!! I'd forgotten how much that matters.
Two beware points - I have never been bitten on holidays before and ended up with 30 bites on the right leg and 19 on the left, within 2 days. The itching was horrendous for the rest of the week. This was either sand flies (beach) or the mosquitoes, so go prepared. If you are allergic or uneasy around cats (I love them, but recognise that others don't), there are 2 cats and a kitten at the moment, that peruse the dining area every day. Talking of dining, we have been used to a little more (just a little) formality at evening dinner times in 5 star hotels - eg; the men wearing long trousers rather than shorts and the women wearing something other than beach dresses. We felt overdressed on night one, so didn't make such effort again.
Overall, although I personally wouldn't return, I wouldn't stop others going, as long as they are aware of these issues. Sadly, this experience was not what we had hoped for ourselves.
The weather was fantastic - searing heat.
