“A Great Choice”
Reviewed 31 July 2014

Chose the Illiana as it sounded a quieter sort of place for an older couple. Proved to be an excellent selection, a short distance from the beaches and harbour and with several tavernas and bars within a few hundred metres. Rooms were clean, well furnished and there was ample equipment in the kitchen. Staff were very helpful. We were bed and breakfast and A/C included and it might prove more expensive for independent travellers who pay extra for this @ 6 Euros for brealfast and 1 Euro per day for A/C.

Only negative feature was the limited amount of sunbeds and the fact that it was mainly the British guests who thought it acceptable to 'reserve' them by leaving their towels on them overnight. Very lucky you did not find them floating in the pool in the morning!

The location is fantastic being just a couple of minutes walk feom the beach but the staff weren't that great and the room was super basic. Bathroom was tiny and bins only emptied every 3 days. We didn't spend much time in the room anyway but if you plan on eating in often be wary. Room 12 has a good view of the sea and main street. Panormo itself is the best we've ever been to in crete. Absolutely beautiful village with even better locals; great community spirit.

Stayed here from 3-10th July. We have room 5 (one bedroom apartment) which was right next to the pool, a little shaded in the morning then late morning and all afternoon was sunny. The room was basic but had everything we needed. The room had a large kitchen/living room area, large bedroom and a small bathroom - could be made bigger by taking a bit of room from the bedroom. Could do with a bigger TV as it was rather small, in the kitchen you were provided with all the usual stuff but we also had an oven and 3 hob rings which is a really good that you have facilities to actual cook something. Clean pool which was usually quiet and no fight for a sun lounger - always a bonus. On previous reviews I have seen people mention cleanliness and how frequently the cleaner went in - we had our bins and towels changed every other day and a full clean half way through our stay and that was enough; having beds and towels changed daily is unnecessary. Breakfast became repetitive the same stuff was provided everyday it would have been nice if they did different fruit, juice and cereal every other day so at least you were eating the same things. Air con was an addotional 5€ a day and the safe was an additional 10€ a week. However from walking around the area I would say this hotel is well situated and also probably the 3rd top hotel we walked past others and weren't sure if it was a hotel or not, hotel iliana had a proper reception area and which was all open and signed at the front - what you expect of a hotel. All in all I would definitely recommend the hotel and I would stay again!

We had apartment 31 for a week in October. This is our third visit to Panormos and we find it an ideal location for a 'get away from it' break. Our apartment was comfortable on a first floor and had 2 balconies. The Iliana is well placed for access to the village amenities and beach and there is an hourly bus to Rethymnon. The village has a variety of good tavernas, bakery and several small supermarkets. There is also a road train which has excursions into the local hills.

Room Tip: Apartments are preferable to studio accomodation. Room 31 has afternoon sun

We booked this hotel because of the rave reviews on Trip adviser. It is in an ideal location and the village is lovely and compact with everything you could possibly need (even a bakery and supermarket open all day Sunday) but there were some problems with the cleanliness of our room. The balcony especially was not cleaned often and we noticed an unpleasant smell in the bathroom which disappeared after the cleaners had been. We initially thought that it was due to the drain in the floor which often gets blocked at the end of the season. Everything in the bathroom was a bit cramped and it was not until the last couple of days that we investigated further due to the smell worsening. There was a crack somewhere in the seal behind the toilet and unpleasant substances were trickling from there into the floor drain by the shower. Hence the smell! Also Greek cleaners usually empty the toilet bin at least six times a week. Our bin was only emptied three times a week which did not help the atmosphere in the bathroom. The rest of the hotel was lovely, with very pleasant and helpful reception staff and a small but clean pool. It was very quiet at night apart from the night when the Greeks turned up after a Greek wedding! Eating out here was a hit and miss affair, with some meals being good the first time but not the second. The best place that we found was George and Georgia's in the side road by the Post Office. Pleasant service with a smile and consistently good food with daily specials. I must also mention the Vinzi café overlooking the harbour which was a very pleasant spot to sit in the early evening (order a couple of ouzo's and see what you get to eat, you won't need dinner!) The other recommendation is the quirky little open air wine/cocktail bar opposite the Parasiris restaurant. The opening hours are odd, but the drinks are huge and cheap. Panormos seems to have retained it's Greek atmosphere and has not yet been overrun by all inclusive hotels and noisy music unlike it's neighbour Bali, which was heaven on earth 18 years ago.

Room Tip: Don't choose room 20, otherwise the hotel may be ok

First of all I would like to thank you for your review. I would like to apologize to you for the inconvinience caused by the situation in the bathroom. I had no idea that you had a problem in the bathroom of the room. If only you had mentioned it earlier at the reception staff the problem would have been solved, or else you could have changed room and enjoyed your holidays without problems and unpleasant smells. If I knew I really would never leave the bathroom like that.
Considering the cleanliness issues, I am sorry you were not satisfied, as we are doing our best to keep the hotel spotless. However, since you mentioned it, we will do our best to improve the situation. As for the emptying of bins 3 times a week, this happens due to the deal we have with the tour operator through which you booked your holiday.
Thank you again for your review and we look forward to welcomning you back in the future.

We stayed here for 2 weeks 7th -21st September in apartment 31 (upper floor). The apartments are a decent size and we had the added bonus of 2 balconies, one overlooking the pool area and one more private one on the outside with a sea view. The Iliana is extremely well situated, on the main road down to the harbour a few minutes walk from nearly all the tavernas and both beaches. The apartrments are typically Greek, they are cleaned regularly with fresh sheets & towels every 2-3 days.and Barbara and her staff could not have been more helpful.
All in all a lovely place in a wonderful little laidback resort - we will definitely be back!

We arrived at Iliana apartments in the middle of the night so we had to wait till the next day till we could see what the outside looked like. But after checking out the apartment both me and my brother were really impressed! Spotlessly clean with a lovely balcony we both thought we'd struck gold! We went to sleep very impressed and couldn't wait to get up and explore the village of panormos. The next day we had a swim in the pool which despite being a little on the small side felt perfect for relaxing and very quiet. We stayed at Iliana apartments for a week and found the staff to be very helpful and friendly, the bed's are very comfortable and the village of panormos very pretty with great places to eat and perfect beaches. Overall had a great holiday and can't wait to return. Thanks to everyone in panormos for making our stay such a great experience but most of all Iliana apartments. We will be back soon
