“Great for groups!”
Reviewed 8 August 2013

I had a group of 10 people come and visit us in Atenas and they were all able to stay at Poco Cielo. It was an amazing experience for all of us and they are all ready to come back and visit again. The rooms were clean, the area is beautiful and the managers were very accommodating. Thank you for making our trip a special one Gary and Josanne! We look forward to staying there again.

My wife and I had a great time at Poco Cielo. The cabins were lovely, amenities were all in working order, the views fabulous and the management (owners Gary and Josanne), could not have been more pleasant or more attentive. The television reception wasn't very good but who goes to Costa Rica to watch TV?...we went to one of many sports bars in town to watch World Cup qualifiers, along with many of the soccer-mad Costa Ricans...much more fun...

Room Tip: All the cabins are nice...one of them was larger and included a sitting room but I do not remember t...

Just stayed five days with Gary and Josann, very down to earth, but what an incredible vision they had in creating Poco Cielo. Four cabins in addition to their own. Lovely grounds with a pool and common area. I thought from the pictures it would be rustic but no very modern and comfortable. The view of the lights of Grecia and Poas volcano while sitting on the from porch were relaxing. Such great value as well. We had a car but you can walk or catch the bus at the end of the driveway into Atenas and there are a couple of restaurants very close by.

Room Tip: We were in cabin 3 and were the first to feel the sun.

We stayed at Poco Cielo for 18 nights in Winter 2013. Poco Cielo provides great value, considering its amenites and price. The cabins are spacious with a small kitchen, and there is a large community rancho with a beautiful swimming pool. There is a beautiful view of the valley from the pool.

We stayed in a cabin with a larger kitchen for 14 nights and a cabin with a smaller kitchen for 4 nights. We prefer the cabin with the larger kitchen because it was easier to cook in the cabin, but this may not be a consideration for some guests. The kitchen facilities inside the cabin and under the community rancho allow guests to save money and still enjoy CR.

The staff are very helpful and friendly. Jai is the GM, and Ken is the backup. Both were very responsive to our requests, and they speak fluent English. Sometimes they gave me a ride to downtown Atenas (3.3 km) when they were running errands. The Tican staff are very nice and attentive, and they keep the property clean.

The walk to downtown Atenas is 45 min, which is good daily exercise. There is a sidewalk all the way from Poco Cielo to the Coop gas station.

Our daughter attended the Escuela Colina Azul school for 12 days (6th grade), and a bus provided transportation to and from school with pickup at the entrance to Poco Cielo.

Poco Cielo is truly a "little slice of heaven" in CR.

We had the best experience at Poco Cielo, and that is because the place itself is just beautiful, carved in the middle of the woods, just high enough in the hills, and perfectly landscaped.

The cabin we were staying in was very bright and the beds, sheets, and pillows were clean and comfortable. The rancho was another great asset. Our family was practically parked there the entire two weeks. Our kids (5 & 2 years old) had a great time just playing around in the grounds, or swimming in the beautiful pool. The music system at the rancho, and the full kitchen allowed us to preapre meals, listen to music, and watch the kids play all at once. What else could we ask for? Between all this we'd go for a dip ourselves. Just fantastic.

But aside from the place and its wonderful location, I must say the staff and the management were extremely helpful. Jai was great and his friendly approach was much appreciated. Special mention about Ken who was there helping during our stay. He made sure that we had everything we needed. Ken provided great advice and direction about Atenas, and the surroundings. Chevy, Ken's son made great friends with our kids and they all played together.
We miss you guys.

Finally I must mention Gary and Joseanne (the owners) who showed great understanding and compassion when we had an emergency and had to make arrangements to fly back home. They went out of their way to accommodate us. For that we are very grateful.

We intend to go back to Costa Rica, and we will most definitely be staying at Poco Cielo again.

We had a great time. It is in a convenient, easy to get to location and the view is great.
The pool and grounds are beautiful and well kept...the room was clean and spacious and the bed were wonderful!! Hand made by the owner with great mattresses. We wished that there had been a breakfast or at least coffee provided at the rancho. We had a coffee maker in the room but no filters so we went into town to get coffee and filters and milk etc. There is a refrigerator in the cabin as well as a microwave (cabin 3) This place is a great value and much lower priced than the fancy San Jose hotels like the Marriott so we didn't mind buying our own coffee and food. The managers were friendly and helpful. I had no problem with the internet connection (sometimes it goes down temporarily during heavy rainstorms but only for a few minutes and not an issue) I did miss having a TV connection with english channels because I am a typical US citizen that loves hearing the news every morning. When you are in Costa Rica it is about nature, not technology, but it still would have been a nice addition. From what I understand, the cable TV is being added soon.

Room Tip: Some cabins have kitchens and some only a microwave for cooking. The rancho has all cooking needs av...

We found Poco Cielo on the internet when we were looking for a hotel near San Jose. We lived in Tamarindo for 7 months and had to drive 5 hours to the airport in San Jose. (much cheaper flight) We had stayed in a few "American chain hotels", but wanted to find something better. We were so pleased with Poco Cielo - what a beautiful, relaxing place! We picked our daughter up at the airport, drove the 45 minutes to the hotel, and then relaxed in the infinity edge pool with a beautiful view of the Poas Volcano. Bruce, the manager, told us about a great little restaurant in town for dinner. The four of us stayed in a bungalow, and with the large porch and the beautiful grounds, we really weren't cramped. The next morning we were served breakfast in our bungalow at the time of our choosing ( okay, not the best breakfast I've ever had, but you can't beat the convenience!) We took a nice little hike down to a creek on the property, and then packed up to head on to Arenal.
We stayed there another time, but then we tried to stay again in December and they were full. It's not really a resort, but a wonderful place to stay, for a price that was the best of anywhere we stayed in Costa Rica! We'll definitely go back!
