You really can't get a feel for how relaxing and incredible this place is by looking at the pictures. Daniel is a master chef, extremely gracious host, and great help in coordinating side trips and travel to and from Barichara.

We had so much fun talking with him, relaxing in his one-of-a-kind and beaitiful home with its indoor-outdoor feel and historic architecture.

I can't say enough good things about Daniel, his hotel, recommendations, and the city itself, which is so peaceful and relaxing compared to big cities here in Colombia. You're a quick bus ride away from sites to go rafting or explore other towns, but you cannot beat the views from Barichara's lookouts.

Whether traveling with friends or as a couple, this is an amazing spot you cannot miss!

We really enjoyed our stay with Daniel. Our room was right on the street which did make it a bit noisy especially as we were staying during the feast of the immaculate conception which meant fireworks...all night! The bathroom was fabulous and the outdoor shower a revelation. Daniels food was excellent and he really worked hard to make sure we had a great stay. Im only sorry we didnt have a chance to sample his cooking.

Room Tip: the rooms on the street are a bit noisy

We stayed with Daniel at El Carambolo in September 2013. We originally planned to stay for three nights, but in the end we stayed for four nights. This was the best place that we stayed in Colombia - it is truly amazing. Daniel is wonderful, very kind and excellent company. He is also an outstanding cook. One night we had him cook the tapas menu for us and it was incredible! He also cooked a number of delicious soups and other meals for us whilst we were staying in Barichara. During our time in Barichara - one of us became ill and needed to go to the hospital with a fever - Daniel got up in the middle of the night to accompany us - and was a true friend. We really miss his company and El Carambolo. Dorita is also incredibly sweet - and even cleaned our clothes and shoes for us after we did the hike to Guane. They are both wonderful people and really made our trip to Barichara perfect! We cannot recommend this place enough - it is an absolute must for any visit to Barichara/Colombia!!! Rodrigo and Kirsty

This small hotel is on a short hike from the centre of Baricharra on a side street. El Carambole has great rooms with a luxury atmosphere and a wonderful host called Daniel. He is a perfect source of information. And he really tried very hard to understand our few words in spanish and finished it in english. His breakfasts were magnificent. And one night he cooked us a Spanish tapas meal which I still dream about. Thank you Daniel for a wonderful stay, we most definitely will be back!

Just WOW, our room has the classic spaniard colonial style, with little cute details on it, huge bath, nice deco, beautiful rustic roof, and a huge bed just to look at the roof, Daniel was so frindly and pretty good taking us around the town, breakfast was so nicely prepared as we were his guests or closer friends, the top of this place is his Carambolo Tree in middle of the patio of this little hotel were are taking the fruits to make their own jam for breakfast or refreshing cold sweet juices after a long hot walk in town. highly recommended !

Room Tip: ask for : were was the original kitchen?

My wife and I were in Colombia for 25 days and pretty much completed the tourist circuit of small towns and major cities. We did stay in some very nice B&B's, but this one rises to the top of the list. El Carambolo has 4 things going for it. 1) The Town-Peaceful, quaint, easy to get around on foot, tourist oriented, but not overwhelming (unlike Salento and Villa de Leyva, that are also worth the effort to get to, but are crawling with tourists). 2) The Room-charming, a good bed, and plenty of hot water in the shower. 3) The Owner Daniel-extremely hospitable, very friendly, and knowledgeable about the area. He rode with us one day to San Gil to make sure we got the right bus to Parque Nacional Del Chicamocha and even helped us with our bags to the bus station when we departed. 4) The Food-the breakfasts were large and delicious, and the dinners were fantastic! All meals were enjoyed in an intimate setting. (see our restaurant review for more information).
For us, the experience we had in Barichara makes international travel well worth the money and effort.

Room Tip: Make reservations for dinner when you book the room.
