Description: Douro is river, villages and suspended vineyards on imposing slopes. It's wine with designation of origin but also D.O.C, Taste of Certified Origins. It was based on this analogy that, in 2007, the DOC restaurant was born. Situated in Folgosa, Armamar, on the road between Regua and Pinhao, in what is one of the most beautiful scenic routes in the country, the restaurant occupies a building of contemporary lines with a picket based that extends along an elegant wooden deck overlooking the river. Designed by the architect Michael Scott, the structure also includes a river dock with capacity for 15 boats, a wine cellar and a car park.
It's a place of enormous beauty, blending the grandeur of the vineyard covered mountains and the serenity of the Douro river and the riverside villages, only awakened by the regular passage of the train. DOC serves as a window on this breathtaking scenery, making every meal a unique and special moment. Since it opened, the restaurant has been the target of a growing recognition of press and public. David Lopes Ramos, the 'Publico' renowned food critic, thus referring to DOC, in an article published in the 'Fugas' supplement: "DOC is a unique case, because, alone, made the Douro kitchen Douro sophisticated and creative in a level previously unknown. This in Douro, our most prestigious wine region. "

“If on the Douro, do dock at DOC!”
Reviewed 4 July 2014

A surprisingly modern, spacious (with large terrace) refined restaurant on the banks of the Douro, in the small village of Folgosa, Armamar. Both imaginative menus and a la carte; great wine list; superb service! Very nice salads, great fish and tasty suckling pig, inter alia! Attention is paid to presentation and details; there are complimentary little pre-starters, a selection of very nice breads and olive oils, chocolates at the end, etc. Shall definitely return when again in the Douro valley!

“The best of the Douro”
Reviewed 3 July 2014

It's a beautiful location but much more. Rui Paula offers intense flavours through some fine dishes, we had excellent cabrito and monkfish amongst many very fine dishes. They don't forget the fine wines that the whole of the north of Portugal offers and the service is friendly but well judged. I will be back.

If you're looking for the latest in culinary development - go to DOC. Food was very good, inventive, modern - as was the decor. Staff friendly. Good wine.

“Olive oil chocolates!”
Reviewed 22 June 2014

Quite pricey, but very interesting food, so worth it for a treat. I had roast kid with kid rice. Very good. Petit fours at the end included a white chocolate filled with olive oil. Surprising and delicious. Fantastic wine list and lovely setting on the river.

“Interesting place good food”
Reviewed 19 June 2014

The place has a great esplanade were you can have a sundowner. The food was good, the staff was very nice. Some of us had the menu and others ate a la carte. Everyone was happy. The wines choice was huge and good. The atmosphere was very nice. The building is modern but its not cold. I recommend it, and if i ever come back i am sure i will eat here again.
