“Excellent location in Beautiful Tuscany”

Our party of 5 adults spent a week in August in the villa and I would thoroughly recommend the villa as an ideal base to see the sights of Tuscany.1st impressions(how 1st impressions can be wrong) on arrival is that the villa seemed quite remote as Ponte a Moriano is a fairly small village about 6kms outside Lucca. Our party arrived on separate flights on the Sunday evening and as there was a 2 hour difference on arrival times I thought I would have time to pick up the hire car, drive to the villa to allow my wife and daughter time to start unpacking and then for myself to return to the airport(about 1/2 an hour away) to pick up my son and girlfriend.I made a few wrong turns with the satnav resulting in finding the villa a bit later than expected. There we were greeted by the owner ,Tony who was staying in his basement apartment at the villa and the housekeeper(Sabrina). On mentioning that I had to return to the airport Tony volunteered to go with me as he knew the most direct way and then thought it would be even better if he took his car and drove. It was an extremely generous thing to do but as we would find out during our stay nothing was to much trouble to him to ensure our stay was everything we would want.As our main aim for our 1st evening was to find a local restaurant Tony duly pointed our party in the direction of a restaurant literally 5 minutes from the villa and an excellent(and very reasonably priced meal) was had by all. On Tony's advice we ventured into Lucca on the Monday and walked the walls round the city(along with hundreds of others).Lucca is one of those places that you will want to go back to a number of times.. Over the next number of days our party travelled to Pisa ,Vinci ,Qinque Terre(highly recommended) and Lucca again , yet could still be back at the villa for a late afternoon/early evening swim in the pool if we wished. The villa itself has a history all of its own and is well maintained.Bedrooms are large with an extensive living room and the pool was a godsend on the very warm days.We dined in Pisa on the Tuesday and were intending to return to the local restaurant on the Wednesday until we discovered that it closed that day each week. Tony advised us of another restaurant (Erasmo) which was literally a 5 minute walk away and the food again was excellent. While myself and my wife were out walking another day(over the bridge) we came across another restaurant(Antica Locanda Di Sesto) were we decided to dine on our last night. While more expensive than the other restaurants it was well worth it(see Trip Advisor reviews for this restaurant) . So from thinking that we were a bit remote at the start, we discovered we were within easy access of numerous restaurants , local shops(including a main supermarket which had everything) and within 15 minutes we could be on the motorway to Florence ,Pisa Lucca etc .We found that the villa was an ideal base for a holiday in Tuscany. We only booked for a week but would have loved to have stayed longer and as mentioned Tony was always available for helpful advice & guidance). As soon as I made the booking Tony advised me to e mail him anytime I needed advice about any aspect of travelling to Tuscany and I found his feedback both informative and vital. Our party was 5 adults but can envisage the villa being ideal for families , 2/3 sets of couples etc.

I stayed here with my three sons (23,21,18) & daughter (8). Tony, Sabrina & Giovanni were so welcoming. It felt like staying at a friends. Personal touch included having enough food & provisions in the cupboard & fridge (&wine!) to last our first day. Offer to pick us up from the train station in Lucca, just for starters. The villa was the cleanest place I have ever stayed in. It was spotless! There is plenty of space so although there were 5 of us we never felt on top of each other. Tony was staying in the basement when we were there but it did not affect us in anyway. He was so friendly when we saw him but equally it was no burden. Villa rentals are usually quite prescriptive but here It did not feel 'conveyor beltish' at all. When we arrived there was no need for instructions of where to find the key etc. as they were there to welcome us.

The village was perfect too. Not at all commercialised and very quiet but easily accessible. My sons thought this was not so good until they spent a day in Florence! Then they welcomed the peace & quiet of returning to the village.

We hired a car for the week. There are two large supermarkets within 10 minutes of villa. And the autostrade is close by too.

The only negative I would say is the villa is on the main road through the village. When I say main don't forget it is a village. But during the night I found the road noise a little disturbing at the beginning of our stay. (I do live in a quiet area so not used to noise) Although cars are evident in the day too that isn't so much of a problem. I still feel that the road noise was a small price to pay for the fact that we were so local to amenities which is what I wanted. It would have been very peaceful up in the hills but also less accessible. It would not put me off going again.

It was a big villa & if I returned to that area again maybe with friends I would definitely stay there.

By the way the wifi was great too, thank goodness, as my sons would not have survived the holiday otherwise!
