“Value for money...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 July 2012

Spent 4D3N in this hotel in April '12. Booked thru their webs for less than USD 110 net (room only) for a 3 nights stay, what can I say... BEST deal of all! Really value for money!

Check-in is smooth, and my given room was located on the 1st floor, walking distance from the lobby. Room is alright, with basic amenities and for me, I like the hard bed which is just suited me! The beach is just a throw away. Fantastic! At night, we took a slow walk to Fisherman Village for dinner and drinks which is about 20-25 mins away... (If not, take a tuktuk taxi which is THB50 p/person).

Rented a car ie Avis for THB 1200 per day, and roamed the entire island for 2 days! This area (Bophut) is quite mellow compared to the hustle-bustle of Chaweng beach area, nevertheless, I personally like it...

All in all, a value for money on this Hotel.. P/s: Please, do not expect luxury treatment for the price you!

Extremely hard bed. Got sore hips from sleeping on side.
Room is small with no drawers just a tiny wardrobe. You have to live out of your suitcase which is stored under the bed, which is not much fun if there for a few days.
Pools were great however the loungers need a topper pad.
Happy hour two for one beer and cocktails is good.
Free Wi-fi at reception and rooms for 15 minutes.
Location is reasonable, Tuk tuk trucks go past very regularly and cost 50 bht to Chaweng and Nathon during day. Cost more at night.
Recommend a meal at Kingfisher and Jasmine restuarants over the road.
Family Mart 24 hours is also very handy.
We found the market shopping to be bettr in Nathon than Chaweng or Fishermans Village.
The 'Walking Market' at Fishermans Village came on Friday night and was worth a visit.
Go the the Irish Pub in Fisherrmans Village to see any sport on TV.

Room Tip: Ground floor opening onto centre courtyard appeared the best.

A clean friendly hotel, but the beds were amazingly hard and the small rooms didn't have an easy chair to sit in for a comfortable read. Nice staff, pleasant breakfast, particularly once they added "cook on the spot" omelets. Friendly ground staff and beautiful grounds. Plenty of choice with pools, handy to Fisherman's Village and really easy to locate a fare to NaThon or Chaweng.

Ibis Samui is a typical Ibis hotel. Tiny rooms, even tinier bathroom, but the other facilities are pretty good. Hotel offers free wi-fi access in room but you have to take the access details from the front desk. The hotel comprises of front desk and lobby in one building with 2 buildings on each end of it covering a well landscaped courtyard which leads to the pool area. There are 3 small pools and a baby pool so it's never overcrowded. The poolside is overlooking a nice beach with some shacks offering drinks. The hotel is on the ring road that covers entire coastline of Samui quite near the Bophut village. You'd wish the rooms were bigger but I guess Ibis is synonymous with small rooms. But it would be impossible to get better rooms with supporting facilities at this rate. If you want to make a budget trip to Koh Samui where you intend to use your just for crashing out and spend rest of the time outdoors, Ibis Samui is your hotel.

Stayed here for two nights, a week apart when we were flying in and out of Koh Samui during trip to Koh Phagnan and Koh Tao. The hotel is handy for the piers and the airport and is very good value. There was four of us travelling, one couple and my sister and I so we could get a 'family room' which was two adjoined rooms, one double one twin. This room came in at about 450bhat each was was incredible value. However, the room blocks have zero character. This is really just a functional hotel for somewhere to sleep, rather than somewhere to stay. The pool and strip of beach are nice, however. But when we thought about going for a swim in the sea, we didn't get very far after finding the sand under the surface covered in a slimy algae or something like that. Not exactly something controllable by the hotel, but a bit disappointing none the less.

Check in and out also seemed to take a long time, with a needless amount of admin required.

We booked a car through to the hotel to take us to the pier for our ferry to Koh Phangan only to be taken to the wrong pier. By the time we discovered the error at the pier, it was too late to get to the correct one. We were able to use our tickets for that pier, but we had to wait an hour and the boat took longer.

The restaurant was also very disappointing. We were forced to eat there on our second night there by a torrential downpour and a extensive power cut. Although I would like to give the kitchen the benefit of the doubt on the basis the power cut (although the hotel did have a generator for back up power), the food we had from the 'Taste of Thailand' menu was very poor and cold. Unfortunately, it was the worst meal I had during my three weeks in Thailand.

So in summary: functional, cheap, good pool, nice beach but poor food, some failings in service, zero character.

Room Tip: If travelling in a group, consider booking a 'family room'.

We are staying for a week at the Ibis Samui and until now we have been pleasantly surprised.
we have a family room with a living room, 2 bathrooms and 2 TV sets.
Rates are very reasonable and the staff is trying his best to make your stay memorable.
Food is excellent particularly the Thai food.
One staff member at the desk is very efficient. Always smiling, Cyril a young Russian is the problem solver and very dedicated to his task.
