I have been to Samui many times, and found a cheap offer for the Maryoo Resort online. The location was perfect for me, nice and quiet (a 5 min drive away from Chewang), but I rented a Motorbike so was able to explore. The room was big and clean, and the staff were helpful. This place is off the beaten track, not located on the beach, and quite remote, but if your looking for somewhere nice to stay, this is the place for you.

Room Tip: Get a moutain view room. Exactly the same room as 'pool side' but cheaper.

Booked 10 nights stay for our first stay in Thailand. Had looked into hotels and this one caught my eye, good reviews, pics looked great, hotel had what we needed.

Unfortunately we were wrong on this occasion.

The room - Itself was actually really nice, clean bed sheet, towels etc so no complaints there. Good size, was more than enough space for both of us with 2 big cases. Could use more coathangers but really nothing to grumble about. We did have a few bugs, a HUGE spider and regular visits from the geckos lol but we grew to quite like the geckos so didnt bother us. The view wasnt at all great, looked out on to the back roads behind the hotel, was meant to be ocean view but to me seeing a bit of sea in the backround behind trees and a busy road doesnt qualify as "ocean view"

The Staff/Service - Left alot to be desired. First impressions ... Airport pick up, was picked up on time so good start. The man who picked us up didnt say a word to us for the full journey to the hotel, odd. Got there, he then started speaking although only to ask our credit card details. We felt strange there because it was so quiet, only the man who picked us up and one other male colleague. We put this down to it being quite late at night and everyone probably busy. So we got our keys and the other man took us to our room, gave us the key at the door and left! Didnt show us in the room, where things were NOTHING! Anyway went in, unpacked and as i mentioned were happy with the room we got. Next morning same agin, Not a sooul around, no one at the pool, no one in the restaurant ODD. We needed transfers to KohPhangan as we would be going to the Full Moon party on this trip too so went to reception. They hardly speak any english at all, now i understand i am in their country and they have their own language but in my own opinion if you work in an environment where tourists will be looking for advice/help/info you should be able to communicate.
Anyway got transfers sorted and later found out they charged us almost fouble!! I know hotels will charge more but that was ridiculous. That night asked for an iron, was told there were none as the staff who deal with that are away home?? Eventually they brought one up....with no ironing board.. smart. Asked for the ironing board and they came up with a mop and bucket!!! Seriously????

Dont get me started on the kitchen staff, one waitress who spoke ZERO english, aasked for strawb milkshake, got lychee asked for pizza sandwich burger and got told no none only fried rice with chicken?? Okayyyyyyyyyy

All in all this hotel is truly let down with the unhelpful staff who totally lack the personal touch of making someones holiday much more enjoyable. We will definately never stay again or be recommending.

Can not recommend this hotel at all. After watching photos on the web and reading previous recommandations, we reserved the hotel for our 17 days of holiday. Upon arrival, we were presented to our rooms. They were terrible! Spiders, small and big, bugs, cocoons on the wall and roof, dirty glasses, towels, surely washed, however full of old blod spots. It was like nobody had stayed there for a very long time! We decided to cancel our reservation, which we had the right to, and only pay for 1 night. And here we are, still waiting for the rest of our money! We cancelled our stay the 19th of July. Today is the 2nd of Sep and we have still not received our money that they own us! Pay attention if you ever decide to go there!

The rooms are fantastic, the bed is fantastic, the bathrooms are great, the pool area is cozy and the staff is very friendly. We have absolutely nothing to complain about!

The hotel is located about 8 min from busy Chaweng, but if you rent a scooter - which can also be done from the hotel - you are able to go anywhere (the hotel has also complimentary one-way transport to the center of Chaweng twice a day). For us this was perfect, because we could have quiet, romantic 1-on-1 time at the hotel, and still enjoy the shopping and dining elsewhere.

We ate at the hotel quite often, and no complaints here aswell. We only tried their thai-food, and the pad-thai was excellent and at a good price.

We looked around for other hotels or resorts on Koh Samui, but we found Maryoo absolutely best value for money.

Maryoo is definitely recommendable!

We booked 4 nights at Maryoo and stayed for less that 24 hours.
Unfortunately my partner and I (in out early 20's) had just come from 7 days at Kandaburi Resort and Spa which we loved.
On arriving at Maryoo we felt like we were in ghost town, barely any staff members and no other guests that we could see. It took a long time to process our check in, we paid upfront and they took my printed off asiarooms "booking confirmation" email as proof of booking. (most places had their own records and I found this very strange)

Nevertheless we were determined to give the place a chance. We went to our room and discovered red ants crawling on the floor, spiders and mosquitos. Putting it down to bad luck we said nothing and went for a walk to look for a restaurant. There is nothing in walking distance of Maryoo. Instead, we asked the hotel if they had a restaurant. The lady behind the bar knew no english and asked the man who had checked us in to help us. He said that there was a restaurant but their cook (their one and only cook) had gone to the market. As a last resort we hired the hotel's scooter (their one and only scooter) and found a nice hub of restaurants 8 - 10minutes scooter ride North of Maryoo.

When we returned from lunch we found the red ants all over our room and biting our feet, we told the man at reception and he moved us to a room with a decidedly less nice view but at least it was bug free-ish.

The pool looked nice but it rained that afternoon so we stayed inside. For dinner we hopped on the scooter again and went to the same street of restaurants. That night was fine, the rooms are furnished very nicely and the views of the ocean are very pleasant.
The next morning we went to have breakfast. There was 4 or 5 choices of 'breakfast sets' on the menu. My boyfriend and I chose different options and were dissatisfied with both. At the bottom of the menu it said you could also have Tea, Coffee or Orange Juice. We asked for 2 orange juices. 10 minutes later the chef returned and pointed to that section of the menu and told us that they didn't have those things. When we said "Orange juice?" he said "Yes we have Orange Juice".... so he came back with two small glasses of it. At the end of breakfast we were asked if we wanted tea or coffee..... ... ... ... ... We were very unimpressed at this stage. We were not confident on the scooter, we were near a beach but could not find any access without walking through another resort and the hotel was not walking distance to anything.

One thing I will say for Maryoo is that they have good free wi-fi which not all resorts offer.

So, if you don't mind riding a scooter everywhere then there is nothing exceptionally terrible about Maryoo except the breakfast and the atmosphere of a haunted house.
The rooms are lovely if you're lucky enough to score one without bugs and one out of the three staff speak english quite well.

This is a brand new hotel (about one-year old) that's on a road between Chaweng Beach and Fisherman's Village. We paid $45 U.S. a night through Agoda.com, and after two days were upgraded (at our request) to an ocean-view room, since the hotel was quiet and we extended our stay another four days. The pool area is nice, clean and hip. But, if you stay at Maryoo, spend a little of the money you will be saving on scooters. We paid 120 Baht a day for scooters which gave us complete flexibility. The hotel allso has FREE internet and breakfast. Some hotels are still charging for wireless. A real nice hotel and a great value. Also know the hotel is NOT on a beach, but we used our scooters to go wherever we wanted, and spent a couple of days at the beach/pool of other hotels charging 4 x more. We just had lunch and a few drinks at the other facilities.

My wife and I arrived in Samui for our honeymoon (after 2 days in Bangkok) on Monday 25th April 2011, just 3 ish weeks after the flood. We had contacted the hotel earlier and were assured all was back to normal.
We checked in late afternoon and noticed the hotel was quiet and the pool empty. We asked and were told there had been cancellations due to the flooding.
I can honestly say that the hotel is the best value of anywhere I have stayed in the world. We have a sea view room, which is large, containing bed, sofa, LCD tv, fridge, kitchen area, air con ( that works very well indeed) balcony with sea view and bathroom with sink, walk in shower and wc. The pool is amazing and due to others cancelling, we have had it to ourselves for 6 days now and there are no new guests due until next week (we leave Wednesday). The service has been attentive and friendly at all times, and whereas a previous reviewer stated unstandjng of English being an issue a) we have not had any problems, and b) you are in Thailand! Breakfast is good with a menu to choose from, an English type breakfast, omlettes, scrambled eggs, toast or muesli. All ate served with tea or coffee, plus juice and fresh fruit, so no complaints there.
Now onto location, the hotel is located almost midway between busy Chaweng and the Fishermans Village in Bo Phut, approx 8 mins from former and 12 from latter in taxi or songchaew. Whereas this may not seem ideal, visiting both places is cheap as you are halfway between them and secondly, a hotel of this standard on a beach in either resort would cost 200%+ of the price.
We have walked to the road each day and hailed a songchaew to Chaweng for 50 Baht each (£1.00) with the return being the same. A taxi will be around 300 baht, but not as fun!
Bo Phut is approx 100 baht each for a songchaew, with a taxi around 400 baht.
For beaches, we found Chaweng too busy and touristy, with Bo Phut the sand too course. Luckily, the hotels just up the road from Chong Mon Beach, which is quieter, but still has shops and beach bars (2) which offer free sun loungers if you buy a drink or food (in Chaweng they were 100 baht each). The seals calmer in Chong mon and shallower too, so ideal for kids. It's the nearest to the Maryoo also as only 4 minutes from the hotel.
Finally, the hotel offer a free shuttlebus, one way only, to Chaweng at 14.00 and 20.00 daily.
I will post pics when I get home, as sitting by the pool in the sun (using free hotel wifi)
I should not need to say it, but all is well on the island. We have noticed nothing since we have been here, unless you include 3 or 4 shops being refurbished in the southern part of Chaweng. Please visit samui and do not cancel your trip. The people are lovely, the food everywhere has been amazing and the weather, GORGEOUS!!
