“Fantastic Location - And Hotel does deliver!”
Reviewed 30 September 2010

We have just returned home after 9 nights at Hansar and unlike one of the previous reviewers we cannot speak highly enough of this hotel. We too have travelled Asia and Europe extensively and often find that it is the people you meet and the experiences you gain to be the most memorabe. We found the rooms to be welcoming and more than comfortable. Add to this a spectacular setting and Fisherman's Village just a few minutes walk away with a wide range of restaurants to cater for all tastes.

We also found the Staff and Management to be caring and happy to provide whatever they possibly could to ensure we had a fantastic holiday. This included driving one of us to a hospital for treatment at no extra cost.

The meals we enjoyed at H Bar were also at the top end of the scale. Breakfast offered a wide choice and all you had to do was ask and it appeared.
We all would also say we had no difficulty communicating with any of the staff - including pool staff - and we speak no Thai.
All in all we found nothing to be "naff" and would highly recommend anyone who is seeking a relaxing and pampered holiday to stay at Hansar Samaui.

A big thank you to Supit, Noi, Ae and the rest of the team. We hope to see you again in the not too distant future.

We stayed in Hansar Samui for our Honeymoon and were surprised by the excellent service. Not only did we find our bed decorated with rose petals, also 5 minutes after check in we received a complimentary wedding cake in our room.
The infinity pool was stunning and the built-in jacuzzi was great as well.
Compared to other places in Thailand the english speaking and understanding capabilities of the staff were good, but still could be improved.

Have just checked out of the Hansar Samui after a 7 night stay. I booked this hotel after researching various reviews and after I could not get into my preferred hotel in Bophut - Anantara. We have travelled through SE Asia a lot over the past ten years and have stayed in many hotels of varying standards so can say that I am reasonably qualified to give a fair and knowledgeable review.
Good points: The hotel itself is quite new so maintenance of rooms, public areas is not an issue. Bedrooms are spacious with large, comfortable beds, spacious balcony and great shower. Check in was quick and efficient and the large infinity pool, was clean with plenty of sun loungers. The location is great... 3 mins walk to fishermans village which has many restaurants, bars and ok shopping. Can recommend Happy Elephant restuarnat which serves great thai food at reasonable prices. Also try the Coconut bar which is directly on the beach (seating is on large bean bags).. cool for a relaxing drink, although srvice is naff.... not enough staff to cope with the custom...
Not so good points: Breakfast is naff for a hotel purporting to be of a quality standard. Very small buffet with only a couple of hot dishes. Small choice of cold meats and fruits together with the obligatory rotary toaster. If you want eggs, bacon etc.. you have to ask for it... not so much of a problem.. but in 99% of good standard hotels in SE Asia, there is always a chef on hand to cook eggs in front of you then you can help ypourself to anything else you fancy. This hotel really needs to re-look at how they present breakfast as we heard lots of complaining going on about the dismal buffet offering. The breakfast staff are helpful and try to please. However, the pool staff have very limited english so we heard various mutterings and grumbles from other guests trying to be understood when ordering drinks, food etc. I know enough thai to get by but lots of guests don't. The gym is a bit naff with only 1 running machine and not much else on offer. A word about the shower in the bedroom... you need to be on very friendly terms with whoever you are sharing the room with as the shower area is open to view from the bedroom.. i.e., there is a piece of clear glass seperating the two areas... ok for us but can see that this would be offputting for a lot of others.
Overall, a reasonable stay but actually expected more for the price paid. Considering the usual standard of service, food etc in SE Asian hotels, couldn't help but feel disappointed and was happy to check out at the end of the stay to get back to Bangkok for a bit of real 5 star service.
Would I go back? No... I would check into the Anantara which is of a much higher standard.

The staff were extremely helpful and polite and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were modern and quite large with a lovely balcony, and the bed was the best i have slept in. The rooms have a fantastic sea view. The hotel has a great infinity pool and there are plenty of sun loungers. I would recommend this hotel to any one.

Hotel staffs are friendly & efficient. Distinguished room design (loved the shower!) & overall comfortability assured! Excellent seamless swimming pool with jacuzzi! Recommended for honeymooners or couple seeking for privacy & tranquility. Choices of restaurants & pubs, shops & Thai massage just few minutes walk from the hotel.

My friends were visiting Bangkok and booked this little hotel as a getaway...I was a bit apprehensive since I was bringing my 14 month old and would be traveling alone. I had absolutely nothing to worry about! The setting is gorgeous, the rooms were spacious and very clean. The rooms are definitely designed for romantic couples, but they provided a cot, and there was a giant bathtub for my toddler to splash around in, as well as an amazing spacious balcony that looked right out to the ocean. My son loved hanging out on the balcony waving to all the staff and people walking by. As the other reviewers said, the pool is amazing. There is a very large shallow section at the top where you can turn on the bubbles. My toddler spent hours trying to "catch" the water. There is also a large sandy area and a large shaded wood platform "cabana" overlooking the beach. The staff were super friendly and attentive. At one point they brought us cold towels on a particularly hot day. They also improvised toddler-friendly food on demand.

I also had time to go to the Luxsa Spa. This was so different from the over-priced hotel spas geared towards foreigners. Not only were the prices reasonable, but the staff were very informative about all the elements of the spa before, during, and after the treatment. They provided a consultation beforehand regarding what kind of treatment I might need, and then summed up the areas where they felt stress or tightness afterwards. It was remarkable!

One last point is the H Bistro. Most places we go to serve uninteresting Western food but at a price. The food here is both gorgeous and delicious. The hotel breakfast is one of the best we've had in all of Thailand. We made dinner reservations one night and wow! We were thoroughly impressed by the quality of food, the taste, the presentation, and the prices were reasonable. We will definitely come again and again!

We have just returned from a 6-night stay at Hansar. The location is perfect - I cannot imagine any place better; the proximity to Fishermen's Village ideal. But - the basic room which we had was just that! the shower is beautiful - all is clean and the furnishings are pleasant. The mattress on the bed is very soft and not at all good for anybody with back problems. Inside the room there is not even a chair. On the balcony there is a nice day bed, but only one other chair. An electric kettle and some tea bags were provided in the room only on the last day. There is no information in the room or in the lobby of the hotel about the Island; no instructions about the air-conditioning or the facilities of the hotel. The meals in the restaurant were excellent - and prices quite reasonable. We had a nice time, but I think that this hotel could easily improve.
