Having just returned from a 9 night stay at The Mantra I’ll happily confirm that all previous POSITIVE reviews and comments here on Trip Advisor are entirely accurate!

The place is beautiful, the staff are delightful and the location is utterly stunning. As a result we ended up with exactly what we were after, a superb holiday relaxing in beautiful surroundings with fabulous facilities and service.

The touches that set it above and beyond other resorts we have stayed………………:

- Of course, the view – breathtaking and totally postcard.

- The pool - infinity with the ‘to die for’ view, the sunken circular soft seating half in the pool, the swim up bar and the in-pool sun loungers where you lay back comfortably at the edge of the pool with the water just skimming over you – blissful!

- The FOC airport transfers and the regular shuttles to Fishermans Village & Cheweng

- The 'Columbian Pina Colada' :-) . The Cocktail menu is entertainment in itself!

- The quirky quotes dotted around the resort

- The book / magazine loaning (or bring leave a book / take a book) facility from the bar area and the thoughtful selection of books in the room.

- The bell at the bar so you could call for a club car to whisk you up or down the hill.

- The frequent free shots of iced fruit juices offered around the pool area throughout the day.

- The Mantra passport you receive when checking in containing resort info, shuttle bus times, 15 min complimentary massage voucher and the hotel address in Thai to show taxi’s how to get you home (in fact all taxi’s we used (most eves) knew exactly where the resort was. One word of advice is that they may to try to charge extra as it’s ‘up the hill’. Stick to your guns, and agree on no more than 300 bht from Fishermans Village and between 400 & 500 bht from Cheweng).

- The Saturday afternoon (FOC) cocktail party offering the chance to meet other guests and get to know the staff better.

- Free WiFi

- Many other free facilities that we didn’t utilise –cooking class, movie theatre, squash courts, the very well-equipped gym, yoga classes and free international calls (we weren’t actually aware of this!!).

- Ultimately the personality and very personal touches that are evident throughout the property.

Of course with every silver lining comes a cloud and the one minor gripe we had is aimed more towards some of the lazy thoughtless guests than the management. That said I think management could easily rectify by placing a few discreet signs around the pool area, and include the request within the passport, that if guests are leaving the pool area (ie for the day, not just for lunch in the restaurant), to REMOVE their towels from the sunbeds!

With space & beds around the pool being limited it was frustrating to not know if a bed was taken if there was just a towel on it (clearly if other items like book, hat, shoes etc are there then it’s obvious the guest is around somewhere local), but with just a towel it’s not always clear. On numerous occasions we witnessed beds sit empty literally ALL day with just towels on and saw other guests come and go not being able to find an empty bed. We were almost 100% certain the beds with just towels on were abandoned towels but you can never be totally sure. A clear policy that’s communicated to all guests to remove towels from sunbeds when they leave the pool / bar area would alleviate this problem and ultimately free up more beds around the pool.

And one last tiny criticism regarding the Love Room (which was fabulous in all other respects), is that they do not have a table and chairs on the terrace. Once mentioned to the GM, within 24 hrs, he arranged to have table & chairs moved from one of the alternative room types that has them to our terrace which was a lovely gesture and was very much appreciated ……but maybe future plans could include table & chairs on the huge balcony as standard? There’s plenty of room and perching on the sunbed with nowhere to put a drink down we didn’t find ideal on day 1.

Neither of the above two negative points detracted from us having a wonderful stay at this beautiful resort. We would definitely return and hope to see the Mantra family again in the future.

Constructive criticism……… with love :-)

Thank you Mantra!

Room Tip: If you want total privacy ask for a corner room. If you're not energetic then ask for a lower room. Love room 143 was perfect for us....... 1 floor up would have been too many steps.

The staff was the most friendly out of all the hotels. The views are great! The pool and work put room and squash court are fabulous. There is a shuttle to the beaches several times a day to the beaches and the hotel will set up tours too. The staff is fabulous. The food is very good and the coffee is the best; they make lattes for you every morning.

I was lucky again because I had a chance to go back to the Mantra.
It is quite shocking to say but it just became even better.
While all the facilities and the service were great at the first time i visited they have managed to make the resort even better by offering complimentary events.
Free cooking class was great and the Chef who taught it is a very funny guy. funny and crazy in a good way:)
I also went to free yoga class every day which was very good even for me and I am built like a bull and not like a swan.......
What I enjoyed the most wast the free cocktail party saturday night it. amazing bites to eat and it was really great to meet other guests and start a conversation over a nice cocktail.
great service, huge variety of facilities and fun entertainment. I might just move in permanently.

We chose this destination for our honey moon basically because of the hotel, the web page really convinced us. Despite the rain we had a wonderful stay in Mantra. We loved the concept starting with the front desk, there is so many details!, Our welcome letter in the suite really made the difference from other hotels. The suite was amazing with a breathtaking view. The spa and restaurant worth the trip! And above all the staff was amazing to us! Worth the trip.

The Mantra is a well run property. Everything you could ask for is available, including free shuttle to Fisherman's Village and Chaweng. Staff are all very helpful and friendly. The breakfast is by far the best we've ever had from a hotel. Delicious pancakes, eggs florentine and hand made espresso drinks.
