“Great holiday!”
Reviewed 21 July 2014 via mobile

Although at first glance the hillside resort could look intimidating by the end of our stay all the hill presented was the best view of the island.
The best position to enjoy the view is in the pool bar!
Everything made easy by the friendly professional staff and the golf carts haha
The room was excellent....everything was excellent!!

The Mantra hotel is approximately a 20 minute drive away from the airport. It is nesseled up in the hills of Bophut. On arrival you are greeted by a lovely hostess and ushered up to your room via a golf buggie. The resort itself is beautiful. It is not wheelchair friendly, as it has been built into the hill. The location itself is not in the centre of the husel and busel, but it is only a five minute scooter ride to areas such as fishermans market.

We are currently staying at the Mantra for 10 days in the 'Love suite'. This suite offers a large room with a king size bed. The photos provided by the hotel on their website are not at all misleading. The presentation of the rooms is lovely. There are lovely little touches everywhere including a daily affirmation left on the bed and oil burners in the bathroom. The bathroom itself offers a large shower and double basin. The love suites are adults only although there are family friendly areas. The view from the resort is breathtaking. Every room boast a view all the way out to the ocean. You also have the use of a priviate spa on the deck.

The facilities include a well equip 24hr gym, spa, movie theatre, children's kids club, restaurant and suna. The infinity pool is great. You do need to get in early if you want to secure a sun lounge as they are in short supply. The wifi is free of charge although dial up gives it a run for its money. The network is not reliable. It constantly drops in and out. They also provide a bus service that drops you down the hill or alternatively you can hire a scooter for $10 AUD a day.

The restaurant itself offers a large selection of over priced food. You are paying the same price for something you would at home that is half the quality. The drinks at the bar are also on the pricy side. The breakfast buffet is great providing everything from traditional Asian breakfast to Danishes, freshily baked breads, fresh fruit and a selection of cooked western breakfast options.

I am aware that being in a non-English speaking country, there would be times where communication issues arise. We found this to be a frequent occurrence. We had issuing ordering a side of chips from room service, requesting an iron from the front desk and there were times where service was just poor in general. This surprised us as mantra has an international brand to uphold and 90% of the guest were English speaking, you would think that the staff would be able to speak at least broken English. In saying that they were all very friendly and aimed to attend to our requests as soon as possible.

Room Tip: If you are childless go for the love suite!

This hotel loves up to the expectations of its photos. The staff were so friendly from the moment we got there. We arrived a little bit earlier than check in and the hotel were happy to hold our bags while we sat by the pool until our room was ready. Stayed in a love room which had a gorgeous interior. Movie selection was great. Only bad thing about it was our room was positioned right next to the main path of the resort so the view wasn't great and anyone walking past could see right onto our balcony, not much privacy at all. If staying in a love room and you want privacy, maybe ask to not be put in this one. Apart from that, breakfast had a great variety and the infinity pool was beyond my expectations, beautiful! The gym was also good for any gym junkies and had an amazing view whilst working out. The resort is up in the hills so is a bit hard to get places unless you take the shuttle, but they have scooter hire at reception which makes things a lot easier as well.

Room Tip: Love rooms are great for couples

We just came back from a 2 week stay at this hotel, and we completely fell in love!
Where to begin?

The staff is so friendly, so helpful and so dedicated to make every guest enjoy their stay. The littlest things, like if I had a problem with my tv. It took them under 2 minutes to send someone who, with a big smile and a humble bow, fixed it.
Then if I had a bigger problem during my stay, which unfortunately I did, they did everything they could to help. My tooth broke, and I got an infection. One of their staffmembers dedicated himself for over an hour on the phone to find a suitable dentist., while he did his normal "chores" in the restaurant. They called a cab, made an appointment and everything else they could, to help.

Then, my boyfriend had a birthday during our stay . I asked if there was anything the hotel could surprise him with, and gosh it truly was!
Our bed was full of flowers and rosepedals, shaped like a heart.
A birthdaycake with a candle and a jacuzzi filled with floating flowers and rosepedals, and champagne! So beautiful, so perfect! (And let me add: Everything was free of charge execpt the glasses of champagne. )

Some people who review this hotel, complain about the steep hill. Yes, it is steep. And yes, if you walk there every day, you will get fabulous leg-muscles.
BUT, they have buggy's ready at all times. 24/7!
The longest we waited for a buggy, was probably 50 seconds. And within a few seconds more, you are at your room. Or the restaurant. Or the pool. Or wherever ;)

The free shuttles for Chaweng and Bophut are a blessing!
You save a lot of money on taxi, the shuttles are always on time and both places are so worth seeing ;)
Big tip! When you are dropped of at Chaweng, you walk through a passage with a McDonalds. You can then choose to walk right or left. Both ways seem equally interesting. They're not!
Walk left. Not right! A world of difference right there!
And go to see Bophut on friday nights! Marked, a lot of people and a lot of energy ;)

The rooms of the hotel, are perfect. We stayed in a LOVE-room and we loved it.
Perfect view, good space, cheap prices on the minibar (Hihi) and clean!

The pool is ...oh how to describe it? Heaven? Perfection?
They even have a poolbar, and the drinks are delicious. (Try Bison Dragon! YUMMY)
The view is incrediable, staff is friendly as always, drinks are perfect and the view is spectaculare. What more do you want?

I would recommend this to couples especially, cause its superromantic! But everyone can go here.
The beauty of it, is that everyone is truly welcome at this hotel! When you leave, you feel like you have made a whole bunch of new friends. And that they truly care about you!

I have travelled in 30 countries, visited God know how many hotels. But this, is without a doubt at the very top of my list! I loved it!
THANK you Mantra, for a beautiful stay!
And in the words of Terminator: I'll be back ;)

Room Tip: Ask for a room high up ;)

I would say I tested the staff here more than a few times on swapping things around, cancelling, moving, bugging with questions. They were always friendly and accommodating, nothing was a stress. Breakfast was nice, but I found lunch & dinner to be over priced for the quality that came out. The location is a little further away but still max 20 mins from Chaweng. Book cars from reception or use the transfer service where possible, taxis hate driving up the hill (which isn't as bad as some of the more unfit reviewers will tell you) and tend to slug you with a 300THB surcharge. Overall, I thought the resort was terrific value for money and would highly recommend it for people that want to be a away from the hustle and bustle, but still close enough to get around to the key parts of the island.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that won't have a view of the pool, too many people could look in.

What an amazing hotel. Rooms 5 star with amazing views and all luxuries one could ask for. The pool is fantastic with swim up bar and views to die for. The restaurant UBUNTU has amazing food and the staff make the experience. We have already booked to return. Could not fault the whole experience at all. I would not hesitate to reccamend the hotel to anyone.
