“A Genuine, Relaxing, Top Class Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 October 2013

Pros:

*The Seafront Pool Villa was fantastic - spacious and open, cozy yet sophisticated, and nicely furnished. Panorama sea-view, private pool, and completely private.

*My favorite place was the exceptionally large terrace - complete with a dining/kitchen area, Jacuzzi, sun loungers, a four-poster daybed, and of course, the generous infinity pool which was very well-maintained

*Housekeeping was impeccable

*There was a daily complimentary snack delivery to our door which was a nice touch

*So friendly, helpful, and professional staff at the resort. Even hanging out by the far end of the beach the 'beach boy' came all the way over on three separate occasions to offer beach towels, cold towels, and ice water

*Satisfying good quality breakfast with different manned "stations" so everything is kept fresh and clean. Noodle soup is cooked, fruit is cut, and smoothies are blended on the spot. One of the breakfast personnel told us she'd been working at the resort for about 25 years and stayed because she really enjoyed it, which says a lot

*The resort/owner makes it a point to preserve the nature on resort grounds, resulting in beautifully kept surroundings

Cons:

*The sand on the beach is coarse and the water isn't as pretty as other parts of Samui

*It's either tricky or pricey to find transportation into town

*We were served a dessert that had gone bad at one of the restaurants which was unexpected at an otherwise top quality resort (it was eventually nicely handled)

Room Tip: The Seafront Pool Villa, if you want the ultimate package (front-row view + private pool)

This was a return visit for us on our 15th wedding anniversary. This time we paid extra for a sea view cottage and it was worth every penny. Fabulous views to wake up to, combined with peace and quiet. All we could hear most of the time was birdsong and the occasional frog. It's always a risk going back to the same hotel again but we really enjoyed the stay. Hospitality provided by the hotel was very much appreciated - a 'welcome back' bottle of wine, a bottle of sparkling wine & flowers for our anniversary and another bottle of wine from Travelbag. All were good quality wines. The golf buggy system to the beach or restaurants worked really well with rarely more than 2 minutes wait. All the staff are so friendly and helpful - nothing is too much trouble for them. Our cottage was well appointed and maintained with everything working properly. Complimentary biscuits or cakes were left in your room every day and the fridge was always replenished with bottles of complimentary mineral water + the ice bucket always had fresh ice in it. We never had to ask - it's just done. We loved the half moon infinity pool as this one was reserved for adults only - more peace & quiet! The pool attendant prepared your sunbed with fresh towels, adjusted the sun umbrella as needed & kept you supplied with iced drinking water throughout the day.
Our preferred choice of restaurant was the beach bar restaurant where there was a different menu for lunch and dinner with plenty of choices available. The Thai food selection was toned down on spices & chilli a little too much for my liking but you can ask for it to be a little hotter if you wish.
The breakfast was always very enjoyable with a wide selection of hot dishes cooked to order and also cold dishes to suit all nationalities. The selection of freshly baked breads and pastries were superb and I particularly liked the stand alone fresh fruit counter where you could order freshly made fruit juices of any combination you liked - the mangoes were exceptional. There were so many exotic fruits on display that if you were unsure about one, the the lady would explain what the fruit was, how you eat it and give you a taste.
The Tongsai Bay is not a modern designer hotel with every facility invented. It's all about making you feel comfortable & relaxed in a beautiful setting and they achieve that without you even realising it. The gardens are stunning and offer good shade around the cottages on hot days.
The hotel runs it's own taxi service if you want to go shopping or out for a meal but they are a little pricey for Thailand. The hotel uses it's own well maintained vehicles and qualified drivers who arrive on time or there are rickshaws & taxis outside about 15 minutes walk away - the choice is yours. Will we return to the Tongsai Bay? Most definitely - talking to other guests, you find most of them are repeat visitors and that speaks for itself.

Room Tip: The sea view is worth paying extra for.

We stayed at the Tongsai Bay Hillside Cottages from September 18th - 25th. Our cottage was roomy: beautiful big bathroom, comfortable bed, lovely lounge area and great view from our private deck which came complete with outside bath and sun lounges. The view from the deck was great - looked down over trees to the pool and dining area and out to sea. The walk from our cottage ( 310) to reception and restaurant for breakfast took all of 5 minutes if that. We used the golf buggy a few times but found the walk good to walk off the wonderful food. Breakfasts, you couldn't have asked for anything more. All tastes were catered for. We ate at Po-Lad and also Chef Chom's and the food was delicious at both. The Monday night beach BBQ is worth going to - a wide range of different food from fresh sea food to curries to roasts and fabulous desserts., Lounging by the pool was very relaxing and with the wave of a flag, your drink order was quickly taken and delivered. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the service was outstanding. Prana Spa is definitely worth a visit.
There is wi-fi throughout the complex and it is extremely fast.........excellent.
We hired a motor bike which made it very easy to get around the island. Riding on the roads and finding our way around was no problem. There are numerous places to hire motor bikes and would recommend you shop around when you arrive as there are so many places hiring bikes out, you are able to negotiate a good price.
Fishermans Village ( 15 minutes away) is worth a visit particularly on the Friday night when they have a market. Lots of food stalls and goods of all descriptions to be had with the obligatory bargaining.
We had a great time staying in Koh Samui and would definitely recommend the Tongsai Bay as a great, relaxing place to stay.

Room Tip: If you stay in hillside cottages expect to climb some stairs which for some people could be challeng...

Tongsai Bay - Koh Samui -

I cant say enough about this property, the management, the staff and above all the GM, Lisa -

This was our second visit to Tongsai Bay and it has surpassed all expectations of any holiday resort that we have ever visited - Being ardent Four Seasons patrons I rate Tongsai's service and attention to detail on par if not better - Thank you Lisa of the efforts and training that you instill in your staff.
From the minute one steps into the car from the airport to the resort the hospitality begins and shows.
The food the service the hospitality is exceptional - Lisa pays attention to every detail of her guests - a service that is limited and exceptional to most GM's -

Tang and his poolside staff are indeed exceptional and the BEST green curry chicken on the island is at Tongsai. If in doubt call Lisa or her managerial staff and they will ensure that your stay is exceptional. Thanks to Lisa and staff we had the best snorkeling experience with a company called 100 degrees - the entire expedition was arranged by the Tongsai Staff under the instructions of Lisa and the experience with 100 degree staff/owner - (Ivan and Chii) was also outstanding-

Thank you for making our second visit the most memorable and Lisa, I will see you soon again at Tongsai - Keep up the great work that you do -

Room Tip: Opt for the Villas or cottages -

My husband and I went here for a 5 night honeymoon after getting married in the Seychelles. I have to say we were both pretty disappointed with the hotel. I'm a true believer in you get what you pay for, we didn't in the case. We paid a considerable about of money for a pool side villa that was dated, no way 5 star, its really unfair to grade it that high. The photos online are NOT a true reflection of the hotel. The pools were lovely but the beach was awful, really shingly and sore to walk on which was a real shame. My advice would be if you have stayed in a few 5 star hotels and don't mind paying the extra price for that then consider another more lavish hotel where you will get a 5 star experience for your money.

Just came back from a 5 night stay at Tongsai Bay hotel and I was very impressed. The hotel has been around since the mid/late 80's but it has definitely been renovated a few times since then, so no concerns over dated decor etc. That being said, please bear in mind this is not a super slick, designer hotel with every conceivable luxury and incredible "wow factor".

However, it is very impressive nonetheless. It is charming, has a personal touch, incredible staff and the hotel and gardens are in impeccable condition.

We were in a Seafront cottage, which has an elevated position overlooking the bay and has beautiful views. The room itself, is split on two floors, with the bedroom/bathroom on one floor and the living room and terrace below. Given their location, the seafront cottages are accessed by a number of steps and as such are not suitable for all.

There are two pools, one which is at beach level and the other slightly higher up and is not open to children. We were there when there weren't any kids, so it wasn't an issue. The main pool is large, has plenty of shade and has a variety of loungers around it. There is a gym and ping pong table, as well as a paddling pool for toddlers. The pool boys are very attentive and quick to organise your lounger, towels, cold drinks etc and the restaurant nearby is excellent. Thailand in general has much better food than the Philippines for instance but we were genuinely impressed with the food at the Po Lad restaurant. Fresh ingredients, excellent fish, varied salad dressings which were of a Eurpean standard and in Tang they have first class waiter.

The breakfast at Chef Chom's was fantastic as well, and staffed with a number of brilliant individuals including Pu (the fruit / smoothie lady) and Kak (omlette and pancake/waffle stattion). The staff at Tongsai really do stand out, from the taxi/buggy staff, porters, waiting staff, chefs etc. Other hotels and resorts, could do a lot worse than learn from them.

The sand at their private beach is not super soft...so please don't expect it. It's completely natural but is made up of tiny pebbles and stones, as opposed to very fine, powder like sand.

Leisa the GM was top draw and incredibly helpful when my other half injured herself. They were very quick to go to the pharmacy to get anti inflammatories and pain killers, as well as recommending the best hospital to go to (Bangkok Samui Hospital), which was flawless, clean, excellent staff. Leisa also recommended Zazen as a venue for dinner which was amazing - so make sure to check it out.

Overall, hugely impressed and we're normally fairly fussy, given that my other half works in the luxury industry.

Keep it up guys!

We stayed here for 9 days following a stay at Bangkok and were here for our honeymoon.

The hotel is set in the hills on a private beach and prides itself on being environmentally friendly so expect lizards birds insects frogs etc not for non nature lovers!

We had a 1st floor cottage suite which was beautiful and plenty big enough for two!

The hotel pools are lovely and the private beach is idyllic. The hotel is reasonably priced for food, drink and room service.

We went to the hotel BBQ and it was well worth the money great food and entertainment.

Getting to and from the hotel is relatively easy. Cars to the local town are priced at £3 one way and you can easily arrange to be collected by the driver saving the hassle of taxi drivers.

Hotel staff will provide buggies all around the hotel facilities for those who may not be mobile.

The tennis courts are great an the gym adequate for maintaining fitness.

Breakfast is good with food catering for all tastes!

Myself and my husband would definitely return and recommend this hotel!
