“Perfection!”

This is our first tripadvisor review. We are a young, well travelled couple, and have stayed in many luxurious hotels around the world but this hotel is in a different league. We looked at a few hotels on the island before booking this one and were a little apprehensive as to whether we had made the right decision, but boy, did we make the right decision!

From the moment we entered the grounds we realised we were in for a treat. The hotel itself is comprised of cottages and villas set in a secluded nature reserve located on a private cove.

Cottage

We opted for a sea view cottage which came with extras such as a bath on the balcony and a four poster bed. The view from the balcony took our breath away and the inside was clean, nicely decorated and roomy. We had previously read on tripadvisor that the interiors were dated; we didn't find this to be the case at all as the cottage fit in perfectly with its surroundings and all its amenities were modern and up to date. We had also read a review that stated that animals and creepy crawlies were rife in the rooms. This was also not the case. The room was cleaned twice a day and if you did have any unwanted guests (such as the small toad that came to say hello to us) the staff were more than happy to come and remove it for you.

Food.

The breakfast buffet is the nicest breakfast we have ever had. Everything is fresh and the catering staff are all incredibly friendly and eager to please. The choice is incredible ranging from freshly cooked pancakes and waffles, eggs cooked to order, cereals, fruits, bread, Full English, Thai, cheese, yoghurts etc etc.

There are also a number of restaurants to choose from within the hotel. Our favourite was the beach restaurant (Po-Lad) which served a range of both western and eastern dishes; all of which were delicious. There's something special about candle lit dining on your own private beach :)

Pool

There were 2 pools, the main pool and the infinity pool. Even though the hotel was at full capacity neither pool ever felt crowded and sun beds were always available. Iced water, fruit and cold towels were frequently brought to our beds by the excellent pool staff.

The hotel has its own private beach which can only be accessed through the hotel and is for guests only. The sand is corse but didn't bother us in the slightest. We were delighted to discover that the hotel provides a range of free non motorised water activities such as kayaks, wind surfs and sailing boats (you can even get free sailing lessons from the beach staff!)

The grounds

The hotel is set in a huge wooded area with rooms set back on the hillside. However this is not a problem as golf buggys are always available to take you around the hotel at your convenience.

Staff

All the staff at Tongsai bay are incredible. We have never experienced such a genuine desire to please. We were treated like royalty from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. My wife lost her wedding ring under the decking whilst we were having a drink one evening. The waitress was literally going to unscrew the entire decking the retrieve the decking. Luckily she created a hook out of paper clips and chopsticks and managed to retrieve it. My wife was also ill at one point. The staff seemed genuinely concerned and delivered breakfast in bed to our room. The hotel manager, Mark, is very approachable and down to earth and couldn't do enough to help us.

Location

Cheong mon is the local town and is a 15 minute walk away (taxis are available from the hotel and cost 150 baht each way if you don't fancy the walk). We found the restaurants here to be great value for money and the beach front bars are worth a visit.

We also visited Bophut (the Fishermans Village is a must see especially on a Friday which is market day) and Chaweng where we saw Thai boxing at the local stadium. Both of these are a 10-15 minute drive away and cost 400 baht each way via the hotel taxi service.

To conclude, if you want a private paradise on a beautiful island with gourmet food and world class service you will be hard pressed to find anywhere better than here. A truly magical experience we are already saving to go back!

This is a very beautiful hotel with the cottages spread out in the hillside along the bay. The staff undoubtably make this place, from the welcoming check in with a chat from the manager Mark to the excellent service in the restaurants and around the pool. They always had a smile and were ready to help. The buggy service was quick and the security guards helpful at night when we arrived back in taxis.
Our room was generous with a wonderful balcony and had a stunning view but that really was the only problem we had all week, when we first arrived I was horrified by the number of steps to climb up to our room and in the heat and humidity we found it exhausting. The view was amazing and that was the reason we didn't ask for a move but as the holiday went on we really wished we had booked a lower room which was more accessible. From leaving for breakfast to the end of the day we didn't return to our room, it was just too difficult. Also, the restaurants have no air conditioning which didn't make for pleasant mealtimes, just a few inefficient fans.
In all we had a lovely time here but if we were to recommend it to others it would be to make sure you are ready to tackle the number of steps here.

Room Tip: Be careful which room you book, hillside cottages are private but remote with many steps.

We researched koh suamui extensively prior to booking our holiday as there is so many choices available. The reviews for Tongsai bay were very good, so we decided to try it out. Initially our thoughts the hotel was very pleasant. Staff were friendly and accommodation was clean. They do make every possible effort in keeping the resort and it's surroundings very natural and clean which is I keeping of their theme of eco friendly.

Positives: Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Food and service at the 3 restaurants in the hotel was excellent. The pool staff were very helpful and friendly.
The hotel managers were extremely diligent in ensuring you were well looked after. The hotel grounds were well maintained and natural relaxed setting.

Negatives: We were very disappointed by the resorts on site car hire group who promised us an open roof jeep and delivered to us a rusted unsafe closed roof car which was nearly unsafe to drive on already dangerous driving conditions as were Samui's roads.
After rejecting the car we were left waiting for an hour with no assistance or solution to rectify the problem. The staff were rude and completely unhelpful. There were hundreds of car hire places on the island but the hotel would only use this particular on site company who only had this one car available. That makes completely no sense! We asked for assistance contacting other companies to arrange a car but they wouldn't or couldn't assist.

One more negative was the day spa which was 4-5 times the price of the same service outside of the hotel. Prior to us knowing this we booked a few treatments. They were extremely difficult to deal with and only if pushed would find an availability. This happened on more than one occasion. We asked for massages on the beach but they were booked out apparently, but we didn't see a massage on the beach all day while were we sitting by the pool.

Overall not a bad place to stay but a couple of issues left us with a bad taste in our mouth and probably won't return as there are so many resorts to choose from so service for guests needs to be "number one!"

We returned to Tongsai Bay after many years absence and were very pleasantly surprised at the way in which the hotel had been sensitively developed. This was our 4th visit to Koh Samui and whilst much of the island’s original character has changed irrevocably, Tongai Bay remains a haven of tranquillity and is very much at one with its surroundings with the various villas just blending into the background. Our over-riding feeling whilst staying was one of relaxation and it only took a brief visit outside of the resort to the Fisherman’s Village to realise how rampant development has altered the nature of much of the rest of the island.

Much has been said on TA about the staff who are magnificent. The place runs efficiently and is immaculate. This is a testament to a great deal of unseen hard work by many staff, not just front of house but hordes of gardners and maintenance staff as well. This is not to say that the hotel is without fault. There are minor areas that could be improved upon and as has been mentioned elsewhere the wonderful private beach does not have the best quality of sand in Cheong Mon. However, any real attempt at criticism would be churlish and largely falls into the realm of individual preferences and idiosyncrasies. The hotel sets its sights high and delivers in the most part.

If you want a genuinely relaxing break, away from the crowds and with the opportunity to enjoy some fascinating flora and fauna then you should look no further. There is no other equal in Koh Samui and we are looking forward to returning again as soon as we can.

Room Tip: Ensure you get a villa with a sea view, you will not regret it.

I find it hard to believe that anyone would vote this under 4/5...the place is sheer paradise. The staff are friendly and attentive to every need, the grounds are stunning, the food and drink (albeit more expensive than outside the hotel) is flawless and delicious and our room broke our expectations.

Ignore the comments about the "beach was too coarse it made me cry" etc etc, obviously they have never been to a British beach where walking on stones is a must.

Insects are around but embrace them. My wife is terrified of spiders but even she managed to show off one bigger than my shoe.

This place is heaven, we leave in 4 days, very sad at this thought.

My wife and I stayed at Tongsai bay for two weeks 7th, April till 21st. I must say this is the best resort I have ever stayed at. I cannot fault and section. The staff were amazing, our lovely room maid whos name was Raviwan was really on the ball with orchid flower petals in romantic shapes plus Elephants and Tortoise made with towels. The management Leisa and Mark were up to high standard of solving any small problems and always attentive to all residents. Our room was a Beachfront Suite number 125 and was in a perfect position looking onto the beach a few stairs but no problem.Monday evening the BBQ was very good but you must be Starving to enjoy the full spread of food, you name it and it is there. The two swimming pools also very well kept although very, very warm, the sea is a little cloudy and not good for snorkleing but so inviting. And around the main pool the staff attend everyone the same withh flowing cold water, cold towels and fresh fruit, and if you would like a cocktail no problem but you pay for this.

Our holiday was fantastic! Organized and Tailor made by Kuoni Cambridge Branch. Great service at Airports and on all Transfers. Thank You Kirsty and Ken in Cambridge.

Now looking forward to a return Easter 2015.

I hope this review helps people anticipating a luxury holiday without high costs, This is the place.

Our name is Silke and Clive Cottle and although English we live in Germany.

Room Tip: If you can afford it Room number 504 is the best position. We had a Beachfront Suite number 125 on...

Very well managed hotel with excellent food and peaceful location. Far too many hills and steps to climb for our disabilities but good service with buggies to get you around. Very clean throughout. Helpful staff and very polite. The beds were a bit hard and the bedding not so good but duvets and linen were replaced two nights before we left with no request which was a good indication of the continual upkeep of the hotel. The General Manager, Leisa, took the time to get to know her guests and was so helpful. She listens to the guests and makes notes of all changes required and guests needs to improve all the time. Brilliant lady. The staff that will stay in our minds for being so attentive are the Beach Boys, what great attention we received. Restaurant: Tang, Su, Big & Krit always one step ahead of you.Reception staff and buggie drivers were brilliant too.Pool service was very good and two towels given to all guests. The food was wonderful, only had one poor meal in 10 days but once you have your food, the waiters/waitresses do not come back to ask if all is well and if you need any condiments, that would have been nice but that is being picky. The entertainment was spectacular. The fire show was a huge surprise and very memorable. The breakfast buffet was excellent and the only one where we have been that is not tasted by the birds before you get to it! All very well covered and beautifully displayed. The Taxi service into town from the hotel was very efficient and reasonable. Good quality cars and polite drivers. Maybe a little more expensive than a street taxi but better quality and prices displayed for your journey at the reception. Very easy to be cheated by a street taxi as they do not turn on their meters. The hotel taxi took this concern away. A very memorable trip and a BIG thank you to all at the hotel.

Room Tip: We stayed in a ground floor room which was very spacious and comfortable. The bath taps were a littl...
