“Mid year break”
Reviewed 22 June 2014

This was the 4th trip to Thailand for my wife and I since 2009, however, the first to the west coast of Thailand.

We were looking for a relatively inexpensive mid year break and Tongsai Bay delivered, the villas and cottages are laid out very well and privacy is guaranteed.

Staff were very friendly, we didn't eat at the restaurants as we ate out most of the time, however, the food we ordered from room service was superb as was the daily breakfast delivered to the rooms.

The rooms are a good size, clean and well kept and the bed was fantastic, so comfortable, had the best 11 nights of sleep I can remember.

The pool was one of the warmest I've ever experienced, however, I didn't like the layout of the main pool, it was tacky and somewhat ugly and didn't fit in with the natural surroundings, also the sun beds were crammed to closely together.

That said the hotel was only at 30% occupancy while we were there so I pretty much had the pool to myself most days so I shouldn't really complain.

Tongsai bay is only a short 10 minute drive from the Chewang and about 20 minutes from alumni if you are looking to do so,e shopping, visits the markets or bars etc.

Car hire arranged via the hotel was relatively cheap, stress free and the car was new, well maintained and clean.

Overall it was a very pleasant stay and I would recommend it highly.

Pack some mosquito spray, like most places in a Thailand the mosquito's seem to love a bit of European flesh...

Room Tip: The best rooms by far are those with a private plunge pool, however, all rooms are largely seaward f...

We stayed at the Tongsai Bay for 5 days at the end of May, and what a 5 days. I just cannot come up with different words, phrases that people have already used. The hotels is just fantastic, beautiful setting, beautiful gardens, beautiful views. from the moment you step our of your transfer, you are treated as if you are the only person that matters at the hotel. Our room/villa was fantastic, a duplex that had anything and everything you could want. The staff were wonderful always there with a smile, a laugh, and there for your every need.
We hired a car for one of our days on Koh Samui and as a Group of Brits were pleased to see that Thais drive on the correct side of the road - left- .
If in a review you have to advise people of the pros and cons, then here are the cons (and before I write these are by no means derogatory -I hope-) The beach is not sandy, but is more like a pea shingle and therefore is a bit ooohhh, aaaahhh as you go for you ocean dip. The resort is set on a hill and is therefore a tad steep in places and if you have knee/leg problems then it can be a bit tiresome, but again your wish is their command, as the resort have golf buggies that you only have to wait or give reception a call, and by the time you put the phone down, your chariot awaits (only wish I could have had a go).
Would we go back? oh yes!....................but...................there is so much in this world to see and therefore our next holiday will most likely be somewhere else.....shame, it really is a lovely place, lovely people and more importantly the other guests that were there all agreed on one thing...Tongsai is wonderful.

Room Tip: arguably all the rooms are good, but a sea view does add a little bit of the "wow" factor

Well what can I say other than a truly wonderful holiday at Tongsai Bay.
We arrived for our honeymoon stay having booked a Grand Villa June 9th-16th 2014.
Nestled on the South side but with a North facing aspect of the cove, the view from Villa 514 was superb with panoramic ocean views.
The Villa for us was charming and together with the exemplary service from the wonderful staff (the little things you do are really noticed) it was a slice of heaven.
For those who want a linear-sterile-sharp-polished 5-star experience then look elsewhere.
The Tongsai fits perfectly into the nature that surrounds it and is at peace. So those who don't like a frog jumping along the path or a monitor lizard saying hi from the other-side of the pool area, then take the former option and really miss out on a wonderful experience.
There was a moderate walk up to the Villa that had us unfit folk slightly panting. We do suggest the walk is very much needed to burn off the calories from the sensational breakfast selection and margaritas/snacks/lunch at pool side during the day :-) Lazy or otherwise then take a golf cart!
We ate at all the restaurants on site and the selection again was amazing. The 10% mandatory service fee makes you feel
like the staff are looked after, as the whole tipping thing is challenging for us.
We had 2-3 staff at all times hovering around at meals, tiny bit annoying but hey your glass never gets below 3/4 full. The room service gives you an opportunity to avoid this and we really enjoyed dining on our own open-air terrace looking at the stars.
Food across the resort was excellent!
We lazed by the pools, swam in the pools/ocean, kayaked and sailed the Hobi Cat in the bay, drank cocktails, ate mostly Thai food (love chillies), had Thai massages (the best) and basically did what honeymooners do....reeeelax....
If you wanted to go to Fisherman's Village Markets or Chaweng Beach etc you still could for 400 baht private car each way...we didn't see the need other than a trip to the newish Festival Centre for a look and supplies.
Putting everything on the tab does get expensive...but hey worth every Baht!
Many thanks Tongsai Bay, would love to come back some day. Cheers!

We stayed at Tongsai Bay for two weeks at the end of May/beginning of June (our 8th visit since 2000). From the moment we got there we felt completely relaxed and at home, and after our welcome drink and swift check in we were taken straight to our pool villa. The villa was spacious and well equipped with stunning views across the bay. We were lucky to arrive just before the cocktail evening and beach BBQ which was outstanding with a vast array of food all freshly prepared to your liking. The food in the three restaurants was excellent, although it is a shame that the specials board is no longer available in Po Lad to add a bit more choice when you are staying there for more than a few days.
We loved the movie nights on the beach and thought it added to the chilled out vibe of the place. The Thai cookery class was really good and I can't wait to try out my new skills at home! The spa is also really fantastic and I can recommend the couples package Return to Prana to rid yourself of any jet lag you might be suffering from.

Tongsai Bay really is all about relaxation and everything revolves around that. The resort is very ecologically aware and this means that there is plenty of beautiful (and sometimes weird and wonderful) wildlife surrounding you which adds to the peaceful tranquility of the place.

The most important part of Tongsai's magic formula though is the staff. They are a truly amazing group of individuals who are such an asset to the resort and the main reason that we have returned time and time again. At this point I have to make special mention to Mark the Hotel Manager who takes time to speak to the guests and to make sure that everything is how it should be. It's really refreshing to speak to a manager to whom a guest is not another number and who is also obviously loved and respected by all the staff. Special mention also to Tee, Su, Krit, Pradab, Big, Nita, chef Joy, Auy, Toi, Pong, Tang, Meaw, Chef Gak, Pi Tui and Pi Nan who all made an impression during our stay. Yet again I left Tongsai with a heavy heart and plenty of tears and a vow to return very very soon.

When we arrived, we were greeted by friendly staff and a welcoming drink.
We stayed in a seafront cottage, which had ocean views and a verandah with an outdoor bath. Although it was 105 steps from the pool/beach area to our room, the walk was not difficult (we could have accessed the golf buggies which were used to transport you around the resort, but the walk helped burn off the cheap cocktails and Singha beer calories!!)
The beach is a private beach, so there are no hawkers etc and is close to Choeng Mon beach, where there are cheap beach massages and the usual street shops/food.
The food at the resort is excellent. The full buffet breakfast caters for everyone's tastes - you can have eggs cooked to your liking as well as the best pancakes and freshly squeezed fruit juices. There are three restaurants, which are also good value.
There are two pools, one for the whole resort to use and one for adults only, which provides privacy should the main pool become too crowded and noisy. As soon as you arrive at the pool, towels were quickly provided along with regular iced waters, cold washers, fruit (free of charge) as well as a smiling face and a good dose of humour.
However, what really made the week were the staff, who were exceptional and could not do enough for you, from Mark the Hotel Manager through to Pong in the poolside bar and Dome around the pool. They really made our holiday a truly memorable and relaxing occasion.
Would we stay at Tongsai Bay again?? Yes we will without hesitation - maybe even next year (which the staff said to us as we were leaving "see you next year"). Thank you!!

Room Tip: No matter what style of accommodation, be it the basic rooms or the up market villas, I dont believe...
