We have stayed at Tongsai Bay five times now and we cannot sing its praises too highly. The service provided by the staff is matchless. From the moment you arrive to the, very sad, time of leaving - we prefer to think that we are just poping out for a while - you are made to feel like a very special friend and part of the Tongsai Bay family. Over the years, we have stayed in the beachfront rooms, cottages and grand villas, and they are all lovely. Breakfast is an absolute delight, both the food (what a variety and the fruit/juice table is a must) and the stunning views across the gardens to the sun sparkling on the sea. Days are spent by the half moon pool as we prefer the quet atmophere there, then in the evening we usually dine at Po-lad or Butlers - this year I had one of the best meals EVER at Butlers, so if they are still serving the lamb in pastry do try it! One comment we would make is that perhaps the hotel need to promote Butlers a little more as quite a few guests we spoke to did not know exactly where it is located. The Grand Villa we stayed in this year was superb and kept spotlessly clean - sitting on the day bed with a drink before getting ready for dinner was my idea of heaven. Whether it is for a chill out holiday or to relax at the end of a tour, Tongasi Bay is the perfect place to stay - and you'll probaby end up returning year after year as we do. A real home from home, we cannot wait to go back next year. As others have mentioned here, do look out for Mark, Michael and Sue who are pivotal to the smooth running of this marvellous hotel.

Just returned from a 14 night break and I can't praise this hotel enough. Its an enviromentally friendly hotel set set in the most stunning tropical gardens that are just teeming with local wildlife and birds. The hillside cottages and villas just seem to blend naturally into this setting, which is a rare treat on Samui. We both have busy jobs in London and arrived tense and stressed but this dissappeard within the first hour of arriving at the hotel. Its a 5 star resort that has 6 star service but in a non stuffy way.

The hotel is so peaceful but it still has plenty to keep you occupied including a top notch spa, sailing and other watersports plus plenty of themed nights. Eating the wonderful food at the the beach barbecue, while being entertained by the Samui Jazz syndicate was a particular highlight.

The hotels biggest asset is its staff. We have travelled throughout SE Asia staying in some of the best hotels in this region. While we have been impressed elsewhere with the levels of service, the staff at Tongsai blew us away with their friendliness and attention to detail.

This is our 3rd visit and it won't be our last. I would recommend this hotel for anyone who is looking for a romantic holiday in a stunning setting, for people with stressed out busy lives who need to unwind and I would highly recommend this hotel to birdwatchers. Their are enough species to keep most twichers happy for a week or two.

wow what a holiday..tongsai went beyond our expectations.

we travelled with a young child -
the resort is very quiet and the clientele is mainly the hotel guests...
this hotel is classy yet informal; we got to know most of the staff and management.
the compound was very secure and had a gate that was manned 24 hours.
the breakfast was freshly prepared - i loved the choice of noodle soup and freshly cut fruit; and wow the fantastic smoothies!!! smoothie ladies thankyou so much...your grin and enthusiasm always started our day well. MAKE SURE YOU TO TRY THE WILD BANANA AND WiLD MANGO FROM TONGSAI BAY ITSELF DURING BREAKFAST...SIMPLY FANTASTIC.....
the food was very good and freshly prepared...we enjoyed particularly the jazz night on the beach and the thai evenings. Again the entertainment was mellow and with a touch of class.
the rooms were cleaned twice a day and we found on separate occasions flowers on our mattress and an elephant made of wrapped towels for our daughter.....etc. on our last day we were wished good luck - all written wth flower petals.
i had a bath on the balcony every evening while watching the sea...even bath salts were provided...my daughter enjoyed getting into the bath with me and share the fantastic experience.
bottled water was provided constantly free of charge.
there is a free water sports service.
the beach boys taught my husband how to sail...they made his holiday.....thank you sanya, yo and pla....a big thankyou also for providing us with lots of ice and water as well as the afternoon fruit snacks by the pool.
there is a good tour operator and taxi service from hotel and all tours were reasonably priced. i tried to shop around but the prices were the same as those in chaweng and bophut. saves you the hassle to try to find the tour you want. would highly recommend their half day tour with personal driver in airconditioned car. Costs around £36 for the 4 hours.

honestly i could go on and on.....the hotel was so idyllic and the fact that it was secluded made it ever so special for us. i was also impressed by the ecological concern shown by the hotel management..you do not see plastic bags and all toiletries are placed in ceramic bottles.

i hope you have a good time as much as we did. thankyou tongsai staff.

From the time we arrived to the time we left this Hotel was nothing but perfect!

We arrived at 9.30 on a Monday morning to friendly faces, cold towels and a welcome drink and would you believe our Cottage was ready!

A smiling receptionist took us along took us along to our Cottage in one of the buggy carts and after 51 steps we arrived in our home for the next 11 nights, we were not disappointed! The Cottage was very large and the balcony area was a good size too.

The Cottage was exactly as had been described on the internet plus we had the added bonus of a lovely view of Choeng Mon Beach. The setting is beautiful and very peaceful.

Within an hour we had unpacked and headed down towards the beach which was 121 steps – do not be put off by this as you can get buggy carts and we never had to wait more than 5 minutes in our whole stay but to be honest it was quite nice getting a bit of exercise.

Again, it was exactly as I seen on the internet and we loved the half moon pool which was very relaxing. Upon arrival at the pools or the beach you are given bottled water with glasses full of ice, these are also replenished throughout the day, around lunch time you are given lovely scented cold towels and in the afternoon slices of fresh fruit.

I note some people have moaned about the beach but it is as advertised and to be honest during our stay some days were windy and if the sand would have been soft it would not have been pleasant sitting in Po-Lad Beach Bistro. The beach was always kept clean and it was nice not having to share it with the normal vendors and stray dogs!

I cannot understand why anyone would moan about the food at this hotel the breakfasts are lovely with your own Juice/Fruit ladies who always greet with you with a smile, fresh baked bread etc. from its own little bakery , basically there was everything there you wanted and the breakfast is served in Chef Chom's Restaurant – might I add at this hotel everywhere you eat you are given free bottled iced water which is not done everywhere in Thailand, yes it is given in the hotel rooms but not always in the restaurants and I found this to be one of the little extras that makes this hotel stand out from the rest.

We ate many times at Po-Lad and the food at this restaurant is stunning and in the evening with all the candles lit it is totally transformed into a Bistro with a stunning view of the sea, we ate at the Dining on the Rocks and this Bistro far outweighs that restaurant and as I said before at least your water is free whereas at Dining on the Rocks they charge you 90 Baht for a bottle of Water!

Po-Lad also does amazing flambé crepes.

The Bar area at Po-Lad is also excellent with a wide range of cocktails and dishes of nuts, too! again I must mention that at Dining on the Rocks we had a drink first in the Six Senses Bar, no nuts provided and at Tongsai they even come and top your glass up, unlike at Six Senses.

We ate once at Butlers Restaurant for our 10th Wedding Anniversary and the hotel even laid a complementary bottle of sparkling wine, a very nice touch. The meal at Butlers was also extremely good as were the staff.

I went to the Spa a couple of times and again very nice setting and the treatments I had were excellent.

A ten minute walk from the hotel will get you to Choeng Mon where there are several bars and restaurants to choose from and also there is the beach again with many eating places where we went on three occasions and had some fantastic sea food which was very reasonable.

A ten or fifteen minute drive will also either get you to Bo Phut Fishing Village where there are lots of restaurants to choose from and also again the same time to get to Chaweng where all the shopping is.

I have to say after being in Chaweng it was a welcome relief to get back to our lovely Cottage at Tongsai.

When chatting to the staff at Tongsai you realise how long many of them have worked there Tang at Po-Lad has been there 19 years that to me really says something about Tongsai.

Yes this hotel is not as modern as some in Thailand, for instance we have stayed at the Indigo Pearl in Phuket but Tongsai for me comes out tops and we felt totalled relaxed at this lovely little hideaway in Koh Samui.

I would definitely say this hotel is the place to go for couples or anyone who just wants some peace and tranquillity served with lots of smiles.

And, if it is good enough for Mickey Rourke then it is certainly good enough for me!!

We've stayed at a number of top class hotels in Thailand, but none compare to Tongsai Bay. The accommodation was spacious and clean, maid service faultless, and the restaurants reasonably priced. Nothing too much trouble for the friendly staff. The hotel is in a tranquil setting and unlike some hotel chains in Thailand, the staff allow you to enjoy the peace and quiet without attempting to market tours and other activities to you at every opportunity. Would we go again? Without hesitation.

I do not agree with recent reviews as I have just returned from this hotel and wanted to leave immediately!! but unfortunately had 6 nights there, the beach is false and made out of crushed stone very very hard to walk on! the food for breakfast is appalling and only has uht milk!! the room where they serve bfast and evening meals is in dire need of refurbishment, couldnt bear to eat there after going twice so had the free biscuit in the bedroom which was the best thing I ate there. The food in the evening is no better tried twice tasteless and had no idea, go out to fishermans village where you will get DELICIOUS food amazing service can reccommend 2 fabulous restaurants!Had stayed in a five star in chiang mai and finished our trip in a 5 star in Bangkok Tongsai Bay just does not compare in any way
