The Anantara is situated between the main road and the beach on the island’s quiet north shore, also home to several other upmarket hotels and “Fisherman’s Village”, just a 5 minute walk along the beach road where there are many decent restaurants and bars. The hotel grounds consist of beautiful, well-kept gardens surrounding a long pond with the lobby at one end and a decent sized pool at the other. Our room was large, comfortable and clean with balconies looking out to the pool and the sea beyond. We did notice several maintenance issues around the hotel – both in our room and around the communal area (doors off hinges, cracking plaster, crumbling cement in pool etc.) but the hotel never felt too busy and we didn’t experience any of the sun-lounger hogging problems that other reviewers seemed to have suffered.

Breakfast was very nice and offered a wide selection of cuisines. Lunch around the pool was a bit hit-and-miss e.g. the ‘street food’ BBQ was delicious, fresh and great value but the sharing platter was terrible quality, deep fried muck. One evening, we had a private dinner for two in one of the pergolas on the grounds which was very tasty and a great experience but it was rather expensive (special occasions only!)

Although the staff were always very polite and happy to help you, the overall service level just didn’t quite match the ambience of the hotel. Firstly it didn’t seem like there were enough of them– it often took a long time to be noticed and served. Secondly, there was no sense of staff being proactive – i.e. you have to call them over, rather than them spotting that you finished your glass and may want another drink. One evening, there was a power cut which lasted for about 5 hours and although the hotel had backup generators, only half the hotel received any power and we were simply told that we should use the solitary candle in our room. The hotel really should be better prepared for these sorts of events.

My biggest grievance is that the hotel charges for using wifi. It will cost you £50 for a week to use wifi in your room, and that’s PER DEVICE – if two of you want to use the internet at the same time you’ll pay twice! Yes, you can get a free 30 minute token to use in the computer room but it’s a pain to have to keep walking to reception going to ask when I just want to check one web page or read one email. I think every hotel I have stayed at for the last 4-5 years, including some zero-star dives, have included free wifi. All the bars up the road in Fisherman’s village offer free wifi – why not my luxury hotel? The management should seriously rethink this policy!

Staff are really friendly and welcoming. Had the best sleep in my entire life. Beds are super comfy. Rooms are very cozy.
Beach is very clean. The sand is really white. Villas come with a pool. Very close to Fisherman's village and bars. Average food.

We stayed at this hotel for 7 nights. Kudos for everything. The moment we turned to the hotel from the main road, it just rejuvenate your spirits. The ambience of the hotel is based on Buddhist philosophy where calm spirits, makes happy lives :). The staff was super nice and very helpful. They try to get to know you personally. The rooms are small, but very very very romantic. They have a very decent breakfast spread, but I honestly think they can make it better. The restaurant food inside the hotel is bit pricy, however they are good. You can always go out of the hotel and just walk few feet to the right and you come across lots of restaurants, which has good, tasty food for cheap prices. All in all we had an awesome time at this place.

Room Tip: When booking get a room on the 3rd floor with sea view. That would make ur holiday a wonderful one.

the hotel is a typical resort in the island, clean, tropical, well trained staff, but we did experienced quite a few unpleasant experiences there. First of all, when we came to the hotel at 3PM, they said the room was not ready yet, so we have to wait at the lobby for more than an hour! during the period, when we figured out the wifi is not free and need room numbers as account name, while as we have not checked in yet so no room number, they only gave us a temporary password for just 30 minutes! it is not our fault to stay in the non air conditioned lobby for an hour! even more, we experienced a five hour power down in the evening during our stay, they apparently not well prepared for this and nothing they have done to help us to feel cooler anywhere! Breakfast is the same for the five days we stayed, quality OK, but choices too limited. anyway, I will say this is an acceptable hotel but not on my recommendation list.

Thank you very much for taking the time to post a review.
It has been shared and discussed with the team to ensure that all our guests have an amazing experience, starting from the arrival.
Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconveniences encountered during your stay.
Unfortunately, the power cuts were beyond our control and our generator could not back up the whole resort, which we are currently working on improving.
Feel free to contact us directly should you decide to give us a second chance, or visit any other Anantara hotels and resorts, and I will personally ensure that you have the most enjoyable and memorable stay.

We enjoyed our holiday here. Met my expectations. Fisherman village is just a five minute walk by the beach. The Shades restuarant is the first restaurant if you walk by the beach from the hotel. Great Thai food, attentive & friendly staff. Value for money. Nice ambience. Good singer, light and easy music. We ate our late lunch there and went back for a BBQ seafood dinner on the last night.

Room Tip: Royal anantara king suite with sea view.

This is my 5th visit to Samui and the Anantara Resort on Bhoput has been the best experience so far. Had a lovely garden view bungalow. The rooms are nice, clean and comfortable, albeit on the smaller size, as certain travellers have commented before. But when you visit these climes, all you really need the room for is sleeping in. Hope many others will enjoy the Anantara, as well

I stayed at this beautiful resort just after it opened in 2004 and have just now started using TripAdvisor. So the review is dated, but they still deserve it. We had planned a week at Anantara Bophut and another week at Ananantara in Hua Hin. But at day3 in our first week I broke my ancle playing tennis at the resort. That is something that really can ruin a vacation.. But the service from the staff and the management was so overwhelming; there was a big fruitbasket in my room when I returned from the hospital. There was a handwritten card from the General Manager wishing me a speedy recovery and they even sent us food to our room "on the house" the first night after the accident.

Everyone on the staff helped in any way they could and did everything to make my life easier. We were told that we could stay in our suit the next week as well as travelling to Hua Hin didnt really look like a good idea. We got the suit for the price of a regular room (as we did the first week - but that was a promotion).

The resort was elegant, the food deliciuos and the staff very polite and forthcoming.

I am sorry for not giving this review earlier, but better late then never... We will be back again for the first time since my injury this October, and we will consider staying there again (but no tennis)
