“excellent resort - great staff”
Reviewed 26 April 2010

We stayed here for 12 nights, really enjoyed it. We had booked an Anantare Suite - lovely big room with very comfortable bed, 2 balconies, big bathroom and a huge tub, and all you need. Staff at the Anantara is great, they all go the extra mile, you can ask everything. If you like cooking, take the thai cooking class with the Thai chef of the hotel. It's really nice. The hotel is conveniently located directly at Fisherman's village with restaurants, ATM, supermarket etc. (go via the beach).

For diving: 100 degrees east. Without a doubt the best and most personal diving school at the Island: 1 on 1 diving, their own boat, only very limited number of people, own snorkling instructor that guides you etc etc
The real beauty of Koh Samui is in the surrounding waters of the island (Marine Park, Koh Tao, Sail Rock etc.) and the South of the Island is very nice (non-touristic).

My new husband and I stayed at the Anantara Resort for a week on our honeymoon. We would recommend this place to everyone! The staff were fantastic and so attentive, food at the bar and restaurant was great and the mood was so relaxed. We spent much time by the pool and on the beach which was nice. Apart from a few hawkers, we were left alone. Mind you, I did keep my eye out for the ice cream girl after a couple of days! Some good restaurants and shops are just a five minute walk away at the Fisherman's Village. We'd recommend the Fisherman's Hut/Bar for pre-dinner drinks and and the Starfish Cafe for yummy authentic Thai.
If we ever visit Koh Samui again we will definitely stay at the Anantara.

We stayed here for 4 days and from the drive up to the entrance it was a great stay. The rooms are very spacious but some look a little dark as the gardens are very mature but that not a major issue as the balconies are massive with great chill out chairs and georgeous views over the garden. There is a library with free internet access and a video library that u can borrow..but we never used this! the pool was the best one as it was very large with amazing view over the sea and islands and very importantly...pool bar! The staff are so welcoming and helpful, nothing is too much, even when the "thai grasshoppers" made their very loud noise the staff would come along and shut them up. The gardens made the most stunning setting for a wedding, we saw 2 set ups and they looked so pretty and then laid the dinner party on the beach which has made me decide thats were im going to get married. Honestly not 1 bad thing to say i loved it and would always go back and stay here.

We booked Anantara via Thomas Cook Signature as we received vouchers as wedding gifts. This is not the best way to book the hotel as you don't get the offers. So book directly!
The moment you arrive at Samui airport the magic starts, this has got to be the best airport ever! Clean, organised and exotic great way to start our honeymoon. We drove through the Streets of Samui thinking OMG as it is a bit run down in places but then we arrived at Ananatra Boh Phut, well all I can say is WOW. You drive over the bridge into the lush tropical gardens and then escorted into the library for refreshing drinks and cold towels. No standing at reception nonsense all convenient to you. You are then escorted to you room and everything explained to you.

We had a Standard Deluxe room and it has everything and more you need. Bath robes, flip flops, yoga mat, you get the my drift we didn't need for anything. You have a combined bath shower which is ok. The bed is soooo comfortable I did not have a bad nights sleep on it, bit tricky to get off it as its on a raised platform but even so fantastic.

I was a tad over refreshed one morning and at 4.30am tried room service and they were brilliant, not expensive and the burger was just what a fat drunk man needed!

We ate on the beach one at one of the BBQ's this was good food, lots of it and OK value at £20 a head. The lunch menu is good try the beef Bento this is just great! Its not cheap though we spent £30 each time we had lunch be warned it clocks up your tab. Breakfast was good and costs about £8 ahead which isn't bad value. Lilly the waitress is lovely and always starts your day with a smile

The Spa is excellent but very expensive, we had a 45 minutes special offer massage and set us back £60 but a facial was £120. It is a must do as the setting is fab but you can get a massage cheaper elsewhere.

The pool is great the view is fantastic across to Pang Yang. Chairs are limited but Nong and the other pool boys do their best to keep you happy. Top tip don't take a beach towel they are free of charge and you get 2. There is a swim up bar and you should try a coco mango and keep up the tradition of the beer o'clock club at midday! Raise a glass to Sniffer Fisher :)

The beach is ok but the sand is harsh very grainy and hurts the first few days. The sea is wonderfully warm but not clear so not much snorkeling. The looky looky people are an annoyance but the lady selling corn on the cob and mango for £1 is a must do experience.

I have waxed lyrical about the resort now a couple of top tips and things to consider! 1. Kids - If you want to get away from them and never hear or see them on your holiday then this is not the place for you. They were hogging the 2 guest computers in the library to play games. There was just enough of them to be annoying but it was Easter holiday
2. The quickest way to Fishermans village is by walking 10m along the beach but it hurts like hell or you can take your life in your own hands and walk on the edge of 3ft wall not so good
3. You get 2 free bottles of water but check in the small wicker basket outside the rooms and you might get a free surprise - don't tell em I told you so

All in all a great hotel, no a fantastic hotel set in the most romantic of settings. Book it yourself and you will get a great deal

After staying in Anantara Maldives in 2008, we stayed at the Anantara Bophut in late March as well as another hotel on the Island, and without doubt the Anantara was the better hotel. The staff and management were all very friendly, welcoming and accommodating and made us feel immediately comfortable.

Firstly, it is worth commenting that the building work that is noted on the Anantara website does not in any way impact on a stay and we hardly noticed any noise from the site. It is probably worth requesting a room on the other side of the resort if possible, but you cannot see or hear any work from the lower levels of the hotel. Do not let this minor detail stop you from booking Anantara – you will not be disappointed!

We stayed in a standard Deluxe room and it was beautiful – a very high standard and comfortable. The beds are amazingly comfortable and the bathroom is very well designed, with oil burners in the room to give you a truly Thai atmosphere to your stay.

The beach is clean, which is a refreshing change from some other resorts on the Island, and the beach facility staff are excellent. A short walk away is the Fishermans Village, which offers a good selection of restaurants for dinner if you want to eat out and there are also some very nice beach bars, with beanbags and lanterns which make a welcome addition to the evening stroll.

In summary, the Anantara Bophut is an excellent hotel and after staying here we will definitely be returning to Anantara again soon. A very good brand where the people are a major asset.

We spent the X-Mas holidays 2009 in Anantara Koh Samui, all in all a great hotel in a nice quiet part of the island. The welcome at the reception was very nice and comfortable, and the front desk staff were very friendly, offering refreshing towels and complementary drinks. The room was nice and clean and pretty large. The only area of improvement would be the a la carte breakfast, which doesn't offer a large variety of choices, and what is being offered was wrongly prepared twice. Then again the buffet is good and has all you can wish for, so no worries. The beach is a bit small and the salesmen and -women are sometimes a bit persistant, but always with a friendly Thai smile. The hotel staff had prepapred a X-Mas carrol singing on X-Mas eve with complementary drinks in the garden, very nice. The resort is located in the more quiet part of the island, if you want to party all night long it's only a 20m taxi ride to Chaweng, where it's all happening. The resort's spa is not cheap (actually it's pretty expensive) but it lives up to the expectation. All in all a very pleasant stay, and via asiatravel.com I got some very nice rates.

This is a lovely resort/hotel. Good rooms, lovely gardens and a good beach position. You can pretty much get anything you want from their excellent breakfast buffet and the room service burgers we got were also very good. The staff are all helpful and things appear to run very smoothly. The only big disappointment was the Full Moon restaurant which is aiming for 'fine dining' (including the prices) without the quality of food and/or preparation/cooking skill. We stopped after two disappointing courses so I can't comment on the deserts. My starter, was mozarello and my partner's seared tuna. Both were wrong in taste and texture; both drowned in salad dressing. I had lobster for my main, which was their signature dish. It was served on a sort of gloopy risotto; my partner had sea bream (may have been sea bass) served on some lumpy mashed potato. It was a very small portion, aiming for high end fine dining but again, without any quality or invention. All in all a waste of £80 (which is a lot of money to waste). No need to spend this money either, there's plenty of choice down the road in the 'village'. My only other slightly negative comment is that there were no prices on the spa menu in the rooms. This meant having to hunt down the one copy of the spa price list in reception. I would absolutely recomend this hotel though for everything else though.
