“Perfect Hideaway”
Reviewed 1 September 2007

I've just got back from a three day stay at Sila Evason with my family and had the most wonderful experience. It's our first time to Samui and so we were undecided between staying at the Four Seasons or Sila, in the end we chose to stay 2 nights at FS and the last 2 nights in Sila. I just want to say we are so glad we had a chance to try out Sila!

Absolutely love:
- one of the biggest and most gorgeous infinity pool, has a great view of the 'orange island' and sunset, also love the bamboo decor arrangements
- Dining on the rocks has beautiful atmosphere
- Thai message at the Six senses spa, appreciate the honey ginger tea served after the treatment
- Personal Butler service, we were very lucky to have had a very attentive and passionate butler, he basically made our trip. Thank you Kevin, wouldn't be the same without you!
- environmentally friendly setting

Room to Improve:
- The food at Dining at the Rocks has the presentation of fine dining cusine, but the taste is not up to standard, i personally enjoyed the food more at the local restaurants at Chaweng and Fisherman Village. But having said that, the location and setting of Dining at the Rocks made it unique and wonderful.
- Every morning at around 8 - 9 am, we can hear airplanes landing the airport, since the hotel is only 15 minutes away.
- The blinds have large gaps in between, which does allow sunlight to show through in the morning. I am the type who likes to sleep in a little, so that's a minu for me.

Anyway, we still had the perfect getaway trip we wanted and I would highly recommend this hotel to everyone, especially the honeymooners!

We planned our honeymoon to sort of have a buffet of hotels in thailand. So we know what we're talking about when we compare to other joints in Thailand. Loved the country. Loved being in a very small minority of Americans visting at this time. And, loved Koh Samui.

However, the Sila just don't cut it for the price. They tout themselves as being an oasis that caters to every need. Ha! First off we had a nice room but not the privacy we expected. The villa rooms are on the golf cart path. Our room, 8, was sold as having a view of the sunset AND sunrise... two decks. We also had a view of the small loading dock and could tell you about the propane tank deliveries and the gossip among the empoyees who hung out outside the dock. Stay away from room 8. Pool is beautiful but seats are scarce.. very scarce. They say there is a butler with the room. We also had a butler with our $285 (US dollar) room at the dunsit in phuket. Big deal.. that's the norm for Thailand. Thailand is all about great service. Food was WAY over priced at the Sila. Massage was average. I gotta say... we LOVED the sala Samui. Loved the price and service of the Pennisula in Bangkok. Loved the new rooms at the Dunsit in Phuket. You can get a lot of bang for the buck in thailand. I think the sila has an attitude that just by charging more you are getting the best. Its not. Private pools aren't even private. We saw naked people swimming and had to close windows in our villa so we didn't feel creepy. beach has very course sand. We just didn't get the Sila. And we've stayed at top notch places in bora bora, Hawaii (four seasons), Bacarra in Santa Barbara. All offer different things in different ways. We don't get what the Sila is offering. Sorry, save your money even if you're super rich.

Sila Evason Hideaway is definitely 5 stars and everything will make your stay there unforgettable. It is a beautiful resort in the northest part of Samui with private pool villas overlooking the Gulf of Thailand. We will never forget Dinning on the Rocks, the welcome drink on the Hill, the variety of goods each day in the breakfast room and the magnificient view from our villa. Every night we were falling asleep listening to the cute voice of Thai frogs, whereas every morning we were listening birds singing.
We stayed at the villa number 24 and we fell in love with the romantic atmosphere. The room decoration is in total harmony with the environment and the tropical vegetation that surrounds the hotel.
Since we were there for our honeymoon, a bottle of champaigne and several Thai fruits were waiting for us. Actually, I recommend Sila Evason for romantic hideaways and honeymooners. I believe that it is an excellent choice for all of of you who seek relaxation and private moments in paradise. You should try Thai massage in the Hotel Spa. I suggest to do it during the sunset because the view is fantastic from the spa villas.
Leaving Samui and Sila Hideaway is difficult for everyone. Me and my husband certainly left behind a piece of our self . It is sad to say goodbye to paradise...It is sad to wake up from a marvellous dream...Sila Evason Hideaway is a dream that we can all share. And this makes it unique!

We had a fantastic overnight stay at Sila Evason Hideaway Ko Samui. Everything from arrival to departure was flawless.

CHECK IN
Upon arrival, immediately Khun First - Butler was there to assist with the luggage handling and welcome us with another GRO.
We were served lemon grass cold towel, gave our passport and credit card. Waited there for 5 minutes.

VILLA AMBIENCE
Khun First was very hospitable to show us around the functionality of the Pool Villa. It was very impressive, environmental friendly and functional.
What impresses us most is the personalised level of service with dial up phone directly addressed to GM, RDM, Chef and F&B Manager. This means that the management team is very serious to handle any queries eventhough that may mean that most of the above executives must be alert on 24 hours a day. Luckily we did not have to use this button service at all because everything was impeccable.
The commitment to environment is amazing. Never seen such hotel putting a lot of emphasis on this matter so much and can be reflected in the choice of amenities in guestroom, bathroom amenities, paper, folders. pens, etc.
The inhouse TV programme looping is a very good idea showcasing the hotel's management, initiatives and facilities.
More music channels will be better as there are lot more relaxing channels otherwise please consider to install i-pod and/or its docking stations.
Baht-Tub is good size however this needs to be more clean. Twin wash basin and twin showerheads were excellent. Temperature is right and functional.
The toilet was blocked in the evening before we went for dinner and reported to GRO. After we came back from dinner, it was already fixed. Very prompt action.
Selection of minibar is impressive. Hershey's chocolate is a real delight as most hotels only have coffee and tea bags / sachet selection.
The bed is comfortable, bedsheet is smooth and duvet is light but comfortable. Mosquito nets add intimacy in the room.
The pool in the villa is clean and lit up very nicely in the evening.

DINING ON THE ROCKS
Overall is fantastic service, great view, romantic ambience, excellent food and presentation. Kudos to the F&B Service and Chef. More selection of vegetarian dishes in the menus will be great. Wines selection is great although not cheap.
Again the service is attentive but non intrusive which is very very good.Suggest to have a couple of buggies standby especially during the rainy time for transferring the guest out to their villas. We opted to walk back to our villa because the buggy didn't come after 5 minutes. Again this is a minor issue as we also happy to walk back under drizzling because the ambience was very romantic anyway.

BREAKFAST - DINING ON THE HILLS
Great selection of healthy breakfast and vegetarian options.
Fresh juices and smoothies are wonderful. Banana smoothie is very delicious...everyone should try this..

MAIN POOL
Nicely laid out, refreshing ice water served when we arrive.

THE BEACH
Good variety of watersport activities. However it was low tide in the morning hence not much things can be done.
The hotel needs to consider have a beach hut bar with several tented beds in the front and bar on the back. I am sure we will patronize this bar as we will need to refresh before walking up the hill back to our villa.

DEPARTURE
The departure notice sent in the morning by Khun First was informative and good. It was good and smooth departure. We were picked up exactly at the given time. All staff 'wai' us upon departure and another lemon grass scented cold towels were served together with two bottles of drinking water.

Kudos to Sila Evason Hideaway Samui! We will certainly come back!

  • Liked — Secluded, intimate, non intrusive
  • Disliked — Minor issue: the villa is a bit far off from lobby

Stayed at this resort in June of this year and wasn''t expecting much and seemed to satisfy that expectation. The location was pretty remote so you either have to hire a moped or jeep. The resort has their own shuttle bus into the main part of town but not cheap. I would recommend going into town to get a better deal on most things. We hired a jeep from a place near the hotel and must have saved at least 30-40% from the hotel published rate.

As regards to the villas, its similar to the Banyan Tree type resorts where by you have privacy by staying in little villas. Also you don't even have to walk around the resort since there are golf buggies at your beck and call.

Room was reasonably sized but do try to get a room way from the buggy road since your paying for privacy and don't get it buggies are zipping up and down. You also have a sunken bath and two outdoor showers at your disposal.

Since its close to nature, I would definately recommend bug spray since come night time there creepy crawlies come out.

Its a ok resort and if your into the Banyan Tree type of resort, They do have personal dinning on the rocks and this looked pretty special for those celebrating a special occasion

We've just returned from 2 nights at the Evason and it was the most amazing hotel experience I've ever had.

Everything about it is perfect, from the amazing service, the views, the food, the villas, the pool.. the list goes on.

We stayed in a pool villa, which is the most decadent thing I have ever done. It's huge, with an amazing double outdoor shower, huge king sized 4 poster bed with mosquito net, another bathroom with another shower, 3 outdoor day beds, massive couch, and our own private pool. Having a private pool is so luxurious, and they give you millions of fluffy towels.

I was a bit unsure after reading some of the other reviews on this site but now they make me laugh. Yes, the mosquitos are a little bit annoying, but the Evason have gone out of their way to minimise them
- they have mosquito coils, insect repellent, mosquito nets and one of those electric things. Mosquitos weren't a problem inside the villa at all, only outside and still... you're in Thailand, there's nothing you can do about it. I was only bitten a few times, so wasn't really a problem.

And the guy who said there was a lizard on the bed (he made it sound malicious like staff put it there to scare his wife) - it's a really cute beanbag lizard and they put it there when they do turn-down. It's a really cute little touch, and it made me laugh. There is no way ANYONE could think it was real, it was bright green and made out of a beanbag, it was so obvious it was a toy.

The food in the restaurants is amazing, we didn't do Dining on the Rock but had a lot of room service from Dining on the Hill - amazing amazing food, and when you order room service it only takes about 15 minutes. They must have loads of chefs on standby as we never had to wait long.

Oh and the breakfast is just brilliant. They have champagne for breakfast, as well as beautiful coffee, smoothies, gorgeous fruit and anything you could even think of. They make fresh waffles or bacon and eggs... total decadence.

The general manager Eric is always around making sure that everything
is going smoothly, and he's really chilled out. And our butler Isaac also made sure we had everything we needed.

My only problem with the Evason was we eventually had to leave and now it's ruined other hotels for me forever - it was the most amazing
place I've ever stayed. I'd go back there in a second!

Just returned from a ten night stay at the Evason Hideaway. Never felt the need to write a report before but felt I had to. Looked at reviews before leaving for our holiday, mixed reviews left me wondering. Wished I knew then what I know now.
It was a really special occassion - our 25th wedding anniversary - I needed it to be special - and it was - more than that, it was ten days I will be able to think back on for the rest of my life.
It was totally wonderful.
The villa, no 22 was superb with sunset views equal to none. The service was discrete yet thorough.
The accomodation luxurious yet natural.
High class but definately not for the posers of this world, there is no audience.
A special occassion in a special place.
Would I return?
Most definately! I had a small glimpse of paradise and want more.
Lucky you if you have booked this resort and are going shortly.
