“Very Special Hotel”
Reviewed 13 March 2014

The grounds and garden at Zazen are stunning. From arriving at the beautiful reception area with Koi pond the winding walk to the room provides a surprise at every turn. Beautiful water features, sculptures and lush tropical planting set this place apart. We stayed in beach front villa 2. Although not huge the room was more than adequate and very tasteful with lovely artwork and sculptures and a very comfortable bed with quality bed linen. The partial outdoor shower did encourage mosquitoes in to the room and made the bathroom very warm and I feel that this could be improved by using fine netting across the open area. I did actually get bitten although sprays were provided and used regularly. There was a lack of hanging space for long dresses in the wardrobe so I had to hang them on the wardrobe door. There was never a shortage of sun loungers and the attendants were very helpful- straightening the towels and dusting off sand. The hotel is convenient and within easy walking distance of the restaurants of Bophut and Fisherman's village. Breakfast at the hotel was varied and very good - the cooked options were lovely and the fresh baked croissants were beautiful. The restaurant has a wonderful view over the beach. Service at breakfast was a little inconsistent considering the high number of servers. We did eat dinner at the restaurant on our first evening but my husband was very disappointed with the chewy beef in the massaman curry and did not eat his meal- the complaint was handled well and the meal was deducted from the bill but we did eat much better food in the town for a lot less money. Overall a good stay and we were very impressed with the design features of this hotel.

We stayed for 5 nights, and the service was excellent. The place is a paradise and really lives to its name Zazen (zen). The room was spacious and inspiring decorated! You have everything you need in this place, and it takes about 15 minutes to walk (beach) to Fisherman's village. The beach at the hotel is really nice as well - good for swimming!

We loved this place and would definitely recommend it to all our friends and family going to Koh Samui.

Zazen was all we hoped for. The landscape architecture was beautiful; lots of water features, ponds, fountains, streams. Walking around the property was very relaxing. I had 2 spa treatments, both of which were great.
The breakfasts were very good. The general manager, Adrianne, is french and takes pride in making all the baked goods on site. The croissants are especially yummy.
As stated in other reviews, the dinner menu was on the expensive side, but the food was good.
We loved the partially outdoor shower. The room was not huge, but very nice. The pool was a bit small. It was occasionally difficult to find two lounge chairs.
We were upgraded to a beachfront room upon arrival, which was a plus. The down side was that we had to move rooms for our last night.

On Monday February 17th we renewed our wedding vows at Zazen's and I have to say all our dreams came true with help of Rio and her team who were simply amazing !! Even though we didn't stay at the resort the design layout and style simply took our breath away. The attention to detail from the decor to the service was amazing!!! From the moment we made contact with Rio we knew she was the lady for the job especially since I am a wedding planner who organises weddings in Spain so understand the issues surrounding making a bridal couple feel comfortable and confident that all the details will be perfect on the day. Communication was constant and Rio made herself available to all the other wedding service providers involved to ensure everyone knew about timings and all the important details. The layout was stunning, the staff made us feel welcome and the food was absolutely first class. We couldn't fault anything and look forward to visiting the team and Zazen's on our next trip to Samui next year. Thank you again for making our day so special!!!

We stayed in a garden villa room with our 2 year old son. The room was very comfortable and pleasantly appointed, we had no issue with the outside bathroom but would not be to everyone's tastes. The pool was pleasant but not huge and only a limited number of sun beds available, the beach was pleasant too but same story not a huge amount of space or number of sun beds so the early risers secure the best beds. The resort has an effortless European charm and as mentioned elsewhere the food is very good, but worth noting that the European menu is quite expensive relative to the excellent Thai menu. The wine list was extensive but was one of the most heavily marked up that we encountered. Overall we had a very enjoyable stay but the one are that lacked was the service which did not math up to our expectations given the reviews on TA. At check-in we had to wait a long time which set the tone, the General manager came to introduce himself which was a nice touch, but was the first and last time we saw him. When one of the European management team was around service was a touch better but we found it generally lacklustre throughout which was a shame. We did stay just after the busy new year period so perhaps this was an anomally. Overall a nice hotel but this is a boutique and therefore there are certain limitations, we thought the hotel was reasonable value though but take the outstanding reviews with a pinch of salt.

We stayed at Zazen for our honeymoon in December 2013 and it was picture perfect.
Absolutely everything from our room to the breakfasts to the incredible spa treatments that myself and my husband indulged in almost daily were just amazing.
All the staff were friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble.....we are so glad we chose Zazen it really made our honeymoon memorable and we can't wait to hopefully return in the near future. In particular we would like to make a special mention about the wonderful service we received at the spa by Lin and A, their customer service was impeccable and they went the extra mile for us every time.

We arrived at the Zazen resort yesterday, staying for 4 nights in a beachfront bungalow. First Impression was amazing, and the rest of the resort did not disappoint. The restaurant is expensive but worth paying for, we had the best massaman curry and chicken and cashew that we have had whilst in thailand, we have already decided that we will be eating here every night of our stay.
The rooms are fantastic and the staff very polite and friendly. We will definetly be back to stay here again. My only gripe if you can call it that would be that even though it was noted in the booking confirmation from the hotel that we are on honeymoon, and would receive flowers, sparkling wine etc, these were no where to be seen, but that is no big deal to us and would not affect us returning here.

Room Tip: Beachfront bungalows are amazing!
