The path to our bungalow winds through an enchanted garden. Our room, perfectly furnished and fragrant with the fresh scent of jasmine, as well as the typical Balinese outdoor bathroom with rainfall shower, transports us into a veritable paradise. Free internet is guaranteed throughout the resort, which helps maintain ties to the real world, if so wished. The breakfast buffet offers the freshest of food, is tasty and varied and champagne (!) is included. We were delighted with the service, beginning at the reception (Tok and her team), on to the restaurant (Louise, Nok with the charming voice), the Bar (with the very attentive trainee), from the beach boys to the chambermaids … everyone was wonderful. The different types of massage (Sport and Thai) were expertly performed. For connoisseurs of Belgian beer we recommend a trip to the new Café Zazen in the Central Festival Mall. We are thankful for the lovely encounters with: Jane & Christian, Claudio, Rio, Ti & Alex (you are all doing a great job!) And last but by no means least, this: although we had checked out of the hotel three days previously, leaving our extra luggage there to pick up on the way back to the airport, we were extremely appreciative upon our stressed return that the considerate staff knew just how to help us (the ferry had suffered a two hour delay and we were sure we would miss our plane). We were sent to take a refreshing shower and then driven in the hotel’s own air-conditioned Zazen taxi to the airport. Relaxed and very grateful, we reached our plane in plenty of time. We highly recommend Zazen Boutique Resort to everyone who wants to enjoy the pleasures of life.

Room Tip: Garden Deluxe rooms are a very good choice.

We came as part of our honeymoon and it didn't disappoint. The rooms were clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated. They had everything you needed, including 4 complimentary bottles of local water every day of your stay. They all have lush green, or beach views, so you really can't go wrong.

The hotel is on the east side of Bohput beach, the least busy end, so it is very quiet and peaceful. It is a 20 minute walk along the beach (although it is quite coarse sand so your feet are very scrubbed by the time you get there!) to the Fisherman's village where you'll find restaurants and tourist shops. It takes 5 minutes by the hotel bicycles during the day (free for guests to use, helmets supplied if you want one), or you can get a reasonably priced taxi in a few minutes.

Due to the small number of rooms, and their layout, the hotel felt spacious, and always had more than enough sun loungers both by the pool and on the beach. There was definitely no need to rush down in the morning with your towel to reserve one!

The breakfast is as large as you want it to be, with choices of freshly (and very well) cooked eggs, waffles, pancakes and Thai food, as well as a buffet of fruit, cereals, hams, pastries, and champagne! And all this overlooking the beautiful view of the bay. A brilliant way to start your day. (Beware, they say breakfast finishes at 10am. This is when the buffet is cleared away and the kitchen closes, so don't turn up at 10!). The restaurant is absolutely fantastic, and isn't much more expensive than the main restaurants in the Fisherman's Village. Well worth the money, and if you're hungry, try the meat or fish tasting menu.

The spa was well worth the visit too, it was so tranquil and relaxing, and was definitely the best massage I had in Thailand!

The staff were so friendly and helpful, and couldn't do enough to make your stay as enjoyable and relaxing as possible.

As well as all of the above, they have plenty of books and DVDs to borrow in case you run out, and a free pool table if you fancy a game.

I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone who wants to have a relaxing time with the options of leaving the hotel to explore the nearby village or island.

With no booking made we just stopped in to try and get some accommodation. You can not see the resort from the street and once you drive down the bamboo lined driveway it's simply lovely. We were given a great rate for a beachfront bungalow and it's view was simply beautiful. Everything about this resort is lush, from the gardens to the paths which has little streams on either side. A champagne breakfast with tropical fruits and nuts and a view which started you day with a smile. Dinner was
Delicious and was simply stunning. I would have to say this is simply the best resort I have stayed in . Five stars

We stayed only two nights, as our destination was Koh Tao, but we truly loved this place.
From the moment you enter the gate into the lush garden you feel happy. The materials, colors and decorations throughout the resort are gorgeous and the food is very good. We didn't like Koh Samui very much (compared to less crowded places in Thailand with more natural attractions), but we just loved this hotel.

Room Tip: all equally beautiful!

Quite simply, one of the tastiest hotel experiences of our lives. Starting every day beside the waves with an amazing breakfast spread featuring the sweetest mango, other fresh fruits, delightful home-made jams (coconut jam lives long in the memory) and made-to-order cooked breakfasts, it is impossible not to start the day in the finest spirits (or sparkling wine, more precisely).

My wife, two small kids and I booked Zazen well in advance as reward for a heavy year, including moving countries. Right from the friendly airport pick up, service at Zazen was exceptional - genuinely friendly and caring. Our bungalow was only about 10 metres off the beach -- which was actually better than the first line, since the beach-front offers less privacy.

The room was a decent size, with a central platform for the comfortable king size bed. A tv and DVD player was useful to entertain the kids in evenings when a hard day at the beach was simply not enough ;-)
One quirk about the room was the bathroom, which is open air - but actually we came to like the outside feeling, and staff were rigorous in placing mosquito-repelling incense each evening. No bathtub for those who love one, but a good shower.

The pool is perhaps rather small, but we were content to enjoy the beach all day. Water was good for swimming and kayaking. Bophut has much rougher sand than busier Chaweng beach, but even in winter it was comfortable to swim. Zazen staff we also fastidious about cleaning up the seaweed carried ashore by prevailing winter currents, in stark contrast to some other hotels along the beach.

Zazen is a foodies paradise and we learned that people tend to come from all over Samui to enjoy the famous cuisine of the hotel's French chef. Zazen is also noted for its unique underground wine cave, the only one of its kind on Samui. We were a bit alarmed about the cost of the compulsory Christmas and New Year dinners, but in the end the hotel showed admirable flexibility: as it was unlikely our 5yo and 2yo kids would enjoy the nine courses of foam-inspired haute cuisine, the hotel kindly allowed us to cancel the kids prepaid places and credit the down-payment to our bill. We arranged a baby sitter in order to savour the meal (our room was close enough to duck back between courses) and hopefully the hotel was able to sell an extra two places, so a win-win victory for common sense that did a lot to endear us further.

Wi-Fi coverage throughout the hotel and beach zone. 20 mins walk down the beach to shops and restaurants at Fishermans Village -- although you won't find anything better than Zazen's restaurant. A couple of friendly beach bars nearby in which to fuel the EPL addiction. Convenience stores, bars, pharmacies, etc all available within 5 mins walk if you want to breach the serenity out onto the main road.

All in all, Zazen is a heavenly haven for the harried and we will definitely be back. Hats off to the whole team!

The hotel is nicely situated on beautiful Bophut Beach on Ko Samui. The facilities in general were great, from the outdoor reception, to the Spa area, to the beautiful grounds and bungalows.

The rooms were very nice and especially the outdoor bathroom with the great rain shower was a true highlight! Only downside: There were lots of Moskitos in the room and outside on the grounds. However, the hotel provides a mosquito net for the bed so the mosquitos don't bother you while you're sleeping. Also, the room was a bit noisy and we often woke up to hotel personnel talking and pushing carts around in the morning.

The hotel beach is great and there always was an empty beach lounger waiting for us. Bophut beach in general is pretty crowded with lots of hotels and tourists. So if you are looking for a complete, calm hideaway, Ko Samui might actually be too busy for you. The upside was that there were always some food-sellers around from which you could buy fresh fruit, spring rolls, etc. for lunch. Also, there is a nice Fisherman's Village on the other end of the beach (about a 15-20 min walk from the hotel) where we had the best fish dishes of our whole Thailand trip.

If you walk out to the main road, there is a supermarket close by and also pharmacies were within walking distance.

The food in the hotel restaurant was awesome. The breakfast buffet was very good and the dinner menu excellent (although a bit pricy for Thai standards). We really really enjoyed the food there. However, the restaurant service didn't really live up to the food quality as the waitresses just did their routine job without offering smiles. On the last day, all of a sudden, the service seemed much nicer with many talks and smiles. My fiancée was joking that maybe the manager is watching, and indeed when we walked out we noticed the manager observing his personnel. In a hotel of such class you should never notice such a difference in service.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay in this hotel, although it wasn't the best one of our Thailand trip.
