Zazen Boutique Resort & Spa
Ranked #11 of 185 Hotels in Bophut
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 13 May 2009

Me and my wife are now visiting Koh Samui since a long time and every time we go there, we go to Zazen Boutique Resort & Spa.
It is truly the nicest boutique hotel we have ever visited, the details you can find back everywhere in the decorations, paintings, etc. just matches all well together.
The variety of food they have to offer in their menu is wide and everything you order is just delicious.

We also like the friendliness and professionalism of the staff.
They are always there and ready to help you with any question or problem you could have.

On our arrival we tried and enjoyed “The Travelers Revival Anti-Jetlag Body Massage” they offer in their Spa Menu.
It just made us feel really relaxed after the long flight.
The decoration and details of the Spa are again nicely chosen to make you feel relaxed.

The rooms are nicely integrated in the tropical gardens and well furnished.
You just feel like you don't want to go back home.

The swimming pool has a small waterfall, jacuzzi as well as a nice tree to relax under when it is too hot.
And in case you would get bored of it (what we personally can't), the sea is just next to it.

Zazen Boutique Resort & Spa is also well located because it is close to the different shopping areas, tourist attractions and other restaurants.

We enjoyed every minute of our stay. Beautiful and clean villas sourrounded by well maintained tropical garden. Staff is always friendly and supportive and the management really gives you the feeling that someone cares for you. The best part however is still the incredible food at moderate prices. We have never had such orgiastic food again in Thailand and also the breakfast is really good.
The beach is not bad but we enjoyed the pool and its sourroundings much more.
We will definitely come back if we can.

This is a great spa hotel in Bo Phut, in the northern part of Koh Samui, away from the noisy touristic area in Chaweng. We had a garden deluxe bungalow which still was ON the beachfront, and was beautifully decorated. The beach was great and you didn´t get the visit of too many sellers. The restaurant was incredible; both breakfast, lunch and dinner were gastronomical experiences, were we discovered new flavours and dishes. The staff was amazing, always smiling and very helpful. We enjoyed every single thing the Zazen had to offer: the view, the thai massages, the thai food course and even the smoothies and sandwiches being served while lying on the beach.
Definitely, a great resort where to spend your honeymoon trip. Don´t forget to ask for the "honeymoon treatment" when you book you room!

You will never forget your stay at Zazen because of the friendly people, accomodation in the rooms (flatscreen TV, films for free, I-Pod doc station,...), beautiful swimming pool, very good restaurant with a super Chef Wally..(a large menu)...
The beach boys bring you a little frozen towel when it's very hot outside...and peaces of melon mmmmm!!! ;-)
We visited many hotels/restaurants at Koh Samui, but this is the best one!!!

I booked the hotel directly from the website www.samuizazen.com. I was arranging the trip for my boyfriend’s 30th birthday so wanted to make sure everything was perfect and from the start of communication the staff at Zazen were extremely helpful and attentive to every question I had even upon arrival.

Zazen is a superb stunning hotel. We stayed here for 3 nights from the 2nd-5th April 2009 in a garden deluxe bungalow which was elegant and spacious with fantastic modern amenities and we didn't want to leave!!! The outdoor bathroom was stunning, the only concern we had was mosquitoes but the hotel supply mosquito’s room spray and twice daily the staff burn incense in the bathroom and on the veranda.

Lovely pool/poolside setting which was never crowded and neither is the beach. We were unlucky with weather whilst we were there but this didn’t stop us enjoying the facilities Zazen had on offer…we used the complimentary kayaking and windsurfing activities and also went wake boarding (arranged and discounted by the hotel). Whilst the boys attempted to master the windsurfing the girls opted to have a Thai cooking lesson in the restaurant. The cooking lesson was amazing, the choices of dishes you could prepare were delicious and the skills learnt were unforgettable. We were then able to enjoy the dishes in the restaurant overlooking Bo Phut bay.

The food in the restaurant is outstanding, I hired the Thai Sala on the beach for my boyfriend’s birthday meal and it was the most romantic setting to celebrate and food was to die for. I’d pre booked this with the hotel before arriving and arranged a birthday cake. Upon arrival we supplied the hotel with balloons, banners etc to decorate the breakfast table and Sala, they did a fantastic job and we also had a decorated bed after the meal (See photos). Breakfast was outstanding, the selection was huge fresh juices, sparkling wine, pastries, meats, fresh fruit, cereal and freshly cooked bacon/eggs/pancakes all of which was delicious. The only negative comment I have is on our last morning we had an early ferry so they provided breakfast boxes which were very poor considering the selection at breakfast – I’d specify what you want otherwise you end up with just bread!

The boutique shop was beautiful, everything they sold was stunning! The internet access and DVD library was perfect for storm days!

We didn’t sample anything in the spa (quite pricey for Thailand but not for the resort) but we had plenty of Thai massages, manicures, pedicures etc on Bo Phut beach.

Bo Phut beach was beautiful much nicer than Hat Chaweng which is awful a bit like a strip you’d find in Spain with lots of people harassing you.

Zazen wasn’t cheap but the resort provided genuine top notch service and food but Bo Phut beach and town offers many reasonably priced places to eat.

A great hotel. The rooms (we had a "garden room") are superb . See photos. Spacious, very elegant, lovely bed and bedding and with all the facilities you could reasonably ask for - flat screen TV, DVD, iPod station etc. Excellent DVD library. The site is constrained but cleverly laid out, with a lovely garden feel to it.
Restaurant is also superb. Has a gastronomic reputation across the island. Taste of Asia sampler menu was to die for. Chef Wally Andreini spans European and Thai cooking effortlessly. I think he has trained most of the kitchen team. Can watch the kitchen action from the restaurant. Breakfasts marvellous.
Very high staff: guest ratio. So, very attentive but not obtrusive. Strong feeling that they are proud of the hotel and care about the service. There was always a general managers in evidence. Both were intelligent and very helpful, and keen to ensure that we were enjoying our stay. Owners Alex and Thi also have a real presence. We had the very strong feeling that the hotel is not resting on its laurels but has a personal touch which ensures that standards don't slip and that next year it will be even better.
Good facilities. Nice pool, but not very large. Hotel was full but pool never crowded. Elegant bar area, with restful seating. Clever use of beach space. At high tide beach in front of restaurant much reduced but larger area off to side beyond the bar was fine. Shop seemed to be good. Sue says spa was excellent.
We liked Bo Phut. Much nicer than Chaweng which is dire. Prices were fair for the quality and service provided - Ko Samui is no longer cheap, and this was genuine top notch service and food. Can easily walk down beach to eat more cheaply if finances tight.
A tip. If you want clothes made, then use Zazen's recommendation of Trend tailors in Chaweng. Sue had a Chinese style dress copied in silk and they did a great job. Shirts and trousers for me very good.

Bottom line? Relaxing, very stylish, fantastic food and service and great atmosphere. Highly recommended.

First of all let's set the context. This is a luxury resort. If you are looking for anything different look elsewhere.
Let's also add that it's very easy to say that the place is great. All five star resorts are likely to make people feel very comfortable, unless they are rip-offs.
So, it is within the context of five star resorts that Zazen should be reviewed.
My personal experience here is that from the moment we arrived we were at home, and felt no need to go out. Service was impeccable all the time, except at the restaurant, where we were charged more (by mistake?) but the error was promptly rectified.
The place has something, some harmony which stays and makes you want go back, it is perhaps the pool area, the bar, the leafy paths around the bungalows, the pond, the spa & massage (superb service there too...), the welcoming reception... not sure, certainly deserving 5 stars. Especially recommended for couples.
We (three guys) had a superdeluxe beachfront bungalow, came with all sort of surprises in the room, and a great bathroom, but I won't spoil your surprise.
