Having transferred to this hotel from the Amari in Chaweng, this hotel was so much better I wish I had found it before booking at the Amari, as this hotel failed to live up to the visit we had to its sister hotel in Phuket. The hotel is part of the Leading Hotels of the world group, and it is small enough to treat you as an individual, yet big enough to offer fantastic facilities. If you are looking for a relaxed, friendly hotel set right on great beach that is a true 5-star hotel, book this one.
We stayed in a garden room which looked out over the tranquil;pool, and on to the sea itself. No noisy pool games, plenty of sunbeds on the beach and around the pool, and a super team of sunbed lads who check on you without bothering you and move the brollies before you even know they need moving.
The room itself was large and in really good condition with a four poster bed and double-sink bathroom, and complimentary fresh fruit and water are replenished daily.
Breakfasts here are fabulous and are as good as you would expect to find in huge hotels, with tables set overloking the sea or inside if you want shade. The service is fast and the dress code around the hotel is relaxed. .
You can walk to the Fishermans Village which is a 10 minute stroll away, and is a Western-style resort with some great restaurants and some clothes shops along with the normal suit shops and massage parlours. The restaurants are nice but not cheap as it is a tourist trap.
However, right outside the hotel you will find plenty of authentic Thai restaurants where you can eat four dishes between two, with drinks for less than a tenner, and they are fun to go to,
but make sure you let them know the degree of spiciness you like, otherwise they will blow your head off! The secret if this happens is not just to drink water, but to eat something sweet which immediately relieves the symptons - Coke or friut does the trick.
The Hotel Spa is quite expensive compared to the many massage outlets nearby, but you do get a really relaxed experience delivered by people who know what they are doing. Give it a try and you will love it, .
We hired a car through Budget on the Hotels advice, and this proved to be a good decision as we had a minor bump that was completely paid for by the insurance included in the deal. Some people like to hire scooters, but we saw plenty of evidence that unless you are experienced, it can be a painful decision!
The Hotel staff simply cannot do enough to make your holiday perfect, and the Hotel is right on a great sandy beach from where they offer windsurfing lessons, kayaking and other non-motorised sports - again complimentary and within a safe roped off area. one of the other benefits of the hotels location is that you are not plagued with noise from jetskis or loud music, so you can wile away the day in peace. Another benefit is that although the airport is close by, you see the planes in the next bay, but never hear them, unlike in Chaweng.
If you want the Asian Chaos that is Chaweng, then it is a four pound taxi ride away, but at least you can take it in small doses if you feel the need for noise, bargains and booze.
There is complimentary Wifi in the rooms at the beach and reception and a computer room too.
A small but great gym is also avl with fruit, water, towels and air con to work off any extra pounds you may start to pile on!!!
This is a great hotel that lives up to its great reputation.
