“The Honeymoon We Were Hoping For”
Reviewed 2 July 2012

We stayed at Bo Phut Resort & Spa in June 2012, for our Honeymoon and my wife's 40th Birthday.

We had a truly excellent time and thoroughly enjoyed the resort and Koh Samui.

The resort has pretty much everything down to a tee.... what stands out the most is the genuine friendly service. The staff can't do enough for you to make your stay just right, but the real plus is that they genuinely look like they're happy to be there for you (as opposed to a lot of places where service can be just as good, but feels contrived/fake).

From the welcome we received upon arrival, to checking out after 10 days, we cannot really fault the resort.

The attention to detail with the looks and maintenance of the buildings and gardens is excellent.

We do however have a some suggestions to improve it further:-

- The inside bar area doesn't really feel much like a bar area, and lacks atmosphere/presence at any time of the day. Maybe this is intentional? as it might not be desirable to have a group of people sat around drinking at a bar, at what is supposed to be primarily a calming/relaxation resort.

- There could be a small outside bar, perhaps away from the sunbathing guests so as not to disturb them.

- The TV/Music setup in the Garden Villa we stayed in was behind the times. While the CD/DVD player did have an 'Auxillary In' socket, we didn't go prepared with an ipod cable, so could not play our music. I think the TV/Music setup could be improved.

These are fairly small points we noticed, but make no mistake, if we return to Koh Samui, we will stay at Bo Phut Resort & Spa!!!

Room Tip: Take an aux cable if you want to play your iPod (Garden Villa room anyway).

We loved it here, did heaps of research before booking and it had great reviews. Everything we read was accurate. Lovely staff, very clean, and a beautiful resort. The beach is average but this didn't really bother us.
The breakfasts are really nice with huge variety, also the pool side food very good, you can pretty much have anything you want. We spoke to the German chef and he very acommodating, saying if there is anything you want he can make it. I think it also well priced not overly expensive, probably not overly cheap byThai standards, but cheaper than New Zealand prices. The only thing we found is wine selection is not good (although they say it is) and quite expensive comparative to other alcohol. In saying this I am picky as we have loads of good wines in NZ. This is however standard all over Thailand not just this hotel.

The staff here are lovely and will do anything for you, sometimes hard getting a spot beside the pool as people reserve them.

We didn't find staying a Bophut a problem, ie. being further out than Chewang or Lamai but then we did have a scooter to get around on.

It is easy walking distance to Fisherman's village, where there is a huge selection of eating places.

Overall, this is a great place to stay, good value for money

Room Tip: We stayed in a downstairs standard room, it was great, with our own outside sitting area, pond. The...

My husband and I stayed at Bo Phut Resort to celebrate a milestone birthday. We chose this resort based on trip advisor reviews and are so pleased we did! All aspects of the resort were excellent; lovely clean rooms, gorgeous landscaping, polite and friendly staff, amazing food, and not to forget the fantastic range of spa treatment packages. A bonus is that the resort is only a five minute walk to the Fishermans Village where you have an endless choice of beachfront dining restaurants (offering both Thai and Western cuisine). All in all we couldn’t be happier and rate this resort as highly as those before us.

An amazing resort in the Bo Phut area of Koh Samui. Myself and girlfriend spent weeks researching reviews on resorts all over the Island, however we decided that we liked the idea of the fisherman’s Village given its many mentions and numerous eateries on the door step of quite a few hotels, so we centered our search in the Bo Phut area.

First things first, this was the best choice we could have made, we took a trip to Chewing and Lamia, and both had a nasty smell and seediness to them and where worlds apart from the peace and beauty of the Bo Phut area of the Island.

We had a standard room in Bo Phut Resort and Spa, and where we could have maybe had a bungalow/villa at other resorts for the same price, the room itself, the setting, grounds and service where all worth the money. The room had everything you could have asked for, including, as others have said, fresh fruit every day, water, a bottle of complimentary wine on arrival, hair dryer, flat screen, etc... and a decked terrace with day bed and table and chairs, looking on to the beautiful Lilly pond. The pond was full of exotic flowers, home to dragon flys and all sorts, shadowed by towering Palms, filled with red and grey squirrels, exotic birds, and other strange sounding creatures that all came together to make a noisy chorus at sunset, really making you feel like your slap back in the middle of a rain forest!! Amazing!! Reception was open air, with beautiful ponds dotted throughout, and on arrival we were treated to the renowned jet lag massage which we added a scrub too, but perfect to get us relaxed and ready for our holiday. Though expensive, its a great idea to experience their Spa, however, following this I used the guys to the left on the beach for the odd massage (go to the guys in the green polo shirts) following a session in Bo Phut’s gym, which even for a gym head like me, as a resort gym goes, was spot on!!

Breakfast: Other have commented that there wasn’t allot of variety... it's breakfast, how much variety do you need?? They had everything from cereals, fresh fruit, guava, orange, apple juices all freshly squeezed, smoked salmon, salad, cold meats, hot meats, from sausage to bacon, to all sorts of breads, croissants, pastries, eggs how you want them cooked, French toast, the list goes on, they even had Thai cuisines at breakfast such as stir fry’s etc... so i'd say you won’t go wanting here!!

Lunch + Dinner: Food and drink in these resorts are always expensive, one of the reasons we chose a resort close to the fisherman’s village, although we did eat in the restaurant on our first night out of convenience, and had some amazing food off a huge grill they had set up for their BBQ night, with Chef Martin coming out to have a chat and welcome us. Again, eating in can be pricey and compared to the rest of the meals we had elsewhere, one meal in the resort was priced at about 3 outwith!!

Where we aimed not to spend on big lunches, we had, again out of convenience, had lunch one day at the resort, and it was Beautiful. Following this, regardless of price, (which for lunch wasn’t as expensive as dinner) we ate lunch here every day, each dish better than the next, and all so so tasty, eating, either on the beach brought to us by the most attentive staff, at our lounger or by the pool.

Staff: All very overwhelming at first, in regards the thanks and welcomes they bestow on you, but really they couldn’t do enough to please and serve, and we wanted for nothing. All English spoke at the resort was fine, and there were no real issues getting the message across.

Beach: I'd read previous reviews talking about, 'water too hot', and beach, 'coarse sand' and 'hard to walk on'.... come on people, its sand, which is always hard to walk on, especially in the hot sun, yes it’s not fine and fluffy, but it was beautiful and in no way worth a complaint. In regards the water, ‘too hot’??, listen when you've swam in 6 degree waters off the coast of Ireland on boxing day, there’s no such thing as too hot!! The temperature was perfect, an initial cool from the sun, which then turned to a lovely luke warm temperature. The setting of the beach and water and view, all accessible, and to be gazed while eating breakfast or from your lounger, was simply breath taking, with the staff, out at 6am, racking the sand, ensuring perfection for its guests!!

To better give you an idea of the water temp, we went diving while on Koh Samui, with CSI SAMUI (for my review of their services, search on trip advisor, or look at my other reviews), and by the way, you won’t be disappointed should you want to plan a dive while on the island, Paul Cook at CSI will take great care of you, no matter what level your at, and you will have a great experience and couple of days out. On my last dive, the air temp was at 36 degrees, and 18 meters down was still at 29 degrees, which makes diving so much more pleasant too as there is no need for wetsuits!!

If you do nothing else on this holiday, hire a jeep for the day (only 1000 bht, 20 quid) and travel the island. Its only about an hour and a half the whole way round and we visited water falls, and temples, stopped off for lunch at a picture perfect beech on the southwest cape of the island, and saw buffalo bathing and fishermen mending their boats, and finished up at NIkki Beach for cocktails while watching the sunset!! Amazing Day!!

Fisherman’s Village: Great strip of restaurants, notably the Happy Elephant, Smile House, and Dine on the beach. If you’re a steak eater, go no further than the Shack!! Thai beef isn’t the best, however they import some awesome cow, and Paddy will recommend to your taste!! We also dined on the beach at Peace resort next door and this was a nice night out, but a special note must go to Cafe 69. Café 69 is on the main street just before the fisherman’s village, the food was out of this world, very small with an extremely different decor, however be warned, if you eat here early in your trip, you may not go anywhere else but here for the rest of your holiday lol!!

So there it is, if you’re looking at Koh Samui, I would highly recommend the Bo Phut area and this resort in particular over any other. As a final note, the reason I never gave BoPhut Resort and Spa 5 stars is because I thought it was lacking a main bar area. Before our meal at Peace Resort, we grabbed a few drinks at their outdoor bar, and it was a nice touch that I think if Bo Phut plumbed one in beside the pool, it would simply make this place faultless!!

I hate ending on a negative, so just to say, we looked at some of the other resorts we’d decided against, and where more than happy with our choice. The Bo Phut Resort and Spa, just had that something extra, and defiantly made the experience for us both!!

We had an amazing week here in June. We had a beautiful room (no.600 I would recommend) with a small patio with it's own fountain. The room was gorgeous, clean, and with free wifi. It's about a 10 minute walk from the Fisherman's Village with its selection of restaurants and bars - it's shorter along the beach, but hard going in the sand so not any quicker. The staff were as kind and polite as we have met anywhere, and it was a pleasant surprise to be serenaded by the waiting staff with 'Happy Birthday' and presented with a cake, candles and all at breakfast on my birthday. The hotel gardens are worth a roll of camera film on their own, it is like a tropical garden. Loved every minute!

We stayed at this hotel from 18th to 25th of June 2012 and from our arrival to departure we were made to feel as if we were the most important people on the planet. From room service, bar personnel, waiters, waitress, chef, cooks, gardeners, houskeeping and front desk all took time to talk and ask if they could help in such a polite manner that if everyone conducted themselves like this the world would be a wonderfull place!!! The Friday market at fishermans village was an experience for the eyes, ears and nose and is located only minutes from the hotel where even all the shopkeepers and bartenders offer the same smiley coutious greeting with fantastic food and drink. The view is breathtaking and the gardens in the hotel are like showpieces. well recommended visit and you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: We stopped in a villa close to the pool and beach area but the set up of the grounds ensures you are...

What an amazing place this hotel is! Absolutely superb.
We stayed in a villa and it was beautiful, so spacious and private and clean, in which we were presented with wine and a cake (we stayed on our honeymoon) and a teddy!
The hotel surroundings are gorgeous, with green, lush gardens and ponds... so beautiful. There was a lovely pool area with plenty of sunbeds to go around - if there were none left near the pool then there were loungers on the beach.
The staff (every single one without exception!) were lovely, so friendly and warm and always said hello or stopped for a chat.
We ate breakfast every day in the hotel and it was very nice (except for the English bacon!) but we didn't dine in the evenings as the Fishermans Village is a short walk away with plenty of different restaurants to choose from. The two restuarants in the hotel were never busy as I think most guests decided to do this. There was also a lovely cocktail lady with a cart on the street at the Village who sold cocktails for 80Baht!
There are lots of places just over the road who help organise tours or rent you mopeds - oh, and there were lovely guys who helped you cross the road (the hotel is just off a very busy main road - but very quiet). I wouldn't recommend doing an island tour - a bit overpriced and there's not that much to see really. Although try the scuba-diving!
Oo there was also a turn-down service in the evening which I thought was a nice touch.
The beach was lovely (if a bit grainy) and the sea was so beautiful and warm.
We wish we were still there. I would highly recommend this hotel.
