First of all, the food and bar were amazing! The pool staff are awesome as well.

What really let the place down was the quality of the rooms. I did not expect a shower curtain in a four star resort! The shower itself was also very tiny.

Dear Valued Guests,

Thank you very much for staying with us at Bandara Resort & Spa!

Sorry for the bad experience, that is part of our Superior's room setup. Our Deluxe rooms however are fully equipped with glass doors. Thank you for the compliments on the food and the bar!

we arrived on Monday 23rd of December just before Christmas, we were very impressed with the staff and facilities. However a few days into the holiday we thought that it was very quiet, no music played at the beach bar (ever) just the football on at all times... and fairly slow service at the bar when you wanted to order a drink. I am only mentioning this because if the hotel improved on these few things we would have given it a five star..

The rooms are a good size and they have everything you could possibly need.. even a beach bag and umbrella's!

There are some real characters in the staff that work here, at reception at breakfast time. The Guards at the front of the hotel are really friendly and help you cross the road, after a few days we got to know them and they greeted us all the time.

This hotel is perfectly situated for the Fishermans village, it is a very short walk either across the entrance of the hotel along the road side and then cut down the side of the Hansar hotel, or an even quicker walk across the beach although it is not easy to walk on at night time. The Fishermans village is not at all what we expected to find and exceeded our expectations. it has a very european vibe and the Friday night markets are a must!

One of the unexpected highlights our our trip was a restaurant across the road from the hotel and slightly up the road to the left (with the back to the hotel) called Ady Siam, it is a very unassuming place (as westerners we perhaps judge places in the way they look) but for us this was the best Thai food in Boput and the Fishermans village, so much so I took a cooking class there (which is great because you can eat it all afterwards) I couldn't recommend this highly enough, just try it for lunch at first it is really cheap and excellent fresh food- I promise you will go back!

On Christmas day night we went down to Arc bar Christmas day which is in Chaweng and it was mental.. we asked for drinks and we received a bucket each we had a great night there. Wednesday night are party nights there so would recommend, just be careful what you have in your pockets!

We also did a day trip on a safari island tour, but we weren't that impressed with it, all we really wanted to do was; the elephant trek which was good but its always a little difficult when it comes to the treatment of animals abroad. We always feel bad funding these sorts of things when we have been and done it. The elephants were not mistreated its just, how they use them in a show with them and I think its a bit in poor taste.. although the monkey show was worse because they humanized them making them ride bikes ect..The tour guide also takes you to a Tiger which is drugged we opted out of this in advance. Part of the trip was an Island safari where they take you into the mountains we really enjoyed this although it is not for the faint hearted, the jeeps do not take it easy up there and (so much so that our broke down and we all had to climb into another jeep) and there is a pretty steep drop down. Overall we enjoyed it but really you could do it yourselves you can rent bikes opposite the hotel and they are 200 bht for the day and you can get around the whole island where these things are sign posted. I recommend getting a bike (even though I was dead against it) take it easy and ride slow check you mirrors ect.. because once you get past Chaweng and Lamai these are the busiest parts of he island and after that it is a joy to be on the back of a bike exploring the island (whilst the husband is in the drivers seat of course)..There are some beautiful parts to the island we would have never seen if we hadn't of done this.

All in all we had a fantastic holiday in Koh Samui somethings I would do differently but hopefully we will have the chance to do it all again if we go back!

Room Tip: ask for a room with a pool view as these are generally quieter and have a nicer view of the gardens...

My husband and I stayed at Bandara for 8 nights in early January to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. From the moment we arrived we knew we were going to enjoy our stay. The front desk staff greet you with cool towels and a fruit drink and check you in while you lounge on the sofas. Our room was on the second floor overlooking the pool and away from the road. It was very quiet and very comfortable. Loved the bed, and also the day bed on the verandah. The resort had a bottle of champagne on ice and a cake waiting for us in our room for anniversary. Housekeeping staff do an excellent job. The grounds are immaculate.

We spent most of our time beachside stretched out on the sun lounges watching the sea and the hawkers/vendors plying their trade! The sand is coarse but the water is warm and Bophut beach is not crowded and noisy like Chewang.

On our anniversary we had a special dinner at a table on the beach. The staff were so lovely to us. They even arranged a floating lantern for us to light and send off into the sky. We ate at the restaurant for the Thai buffet night and the food was fantastic. We also did a Thai cooking class with chef Na. He was so patient with us. You make three courses and then get to eat them for lunch. There is a huge selection of food at breakfast and it is all fresh. There are happy hours across the resort that run from 4pm to midnight. We had margaritas every night...yum.

The wait staff at all the bars and restaurants are just lovely. Prices for food and drinks are more expensive than some places outside of the resort, but compared to what you play at home they were still cheap. As other people have said, the security guys who help you cross the road are great -- running on to the road with their 'stop' paddle to get you across safely and then waiting on the other side for you to come back. Just across the road from the resort is a small supermarket, money changer, laundry and ATMs. There are spas everywhere -- on the main street and along the beach, as well as in the resort. Fisherman's Village is a short walk away.

There seemed to be a cross-section of people at the resort -- young single girls; families with young children; couples. The resort catered for them all. If I ever return to Koh Samui I will definitely stay here again.

The resort was surprisingly well kept, pleasant to hang around the cabana after breakfast, fancy a cocktail or two by the pool, great sized villas with your own plunge pool or if you prefer crowd, a 50 mtr lap pool or another bigger plunge pool to watch people or sunset. The other resorts are walking distance by the beach and my favorite not long a walk to treetops massage..Walking to places to eat was so easy especially to Fisherman's village..I would go back there again the next time I'm in Bophut!

Room Tip: pick the villas closer to the beach access

This is probably one of the most difficult to write reviews I have written on tripadvisor…
We decided to stop here as at the time of booking there were loads of great reviews and it seemed good value and close to Fishermans Village.
We wanted a quiet room and contacted the hotel prior to booking to see which room would suit us, they advised the deluxe was quieter and wouldn’t be near the road, once booked we also asked if possible if we could have a room overlooking the pool on a high floor. We asked the hotel to arrange our transfer which they did, so a nice SUV was waiting for us on arrival at the airport, we used this to return to the airport too.
Upon arrival, the cold fresh towel and welcome drink were great and the staff were great, checking us in smoothly.
When we arrived at our (first) room I have to admit we were a little disappointed, it was a little tired inside, ready for a bit of a freshen up, which apparently will be happening soon. It was also quite near to reception/bar so you could hear the TV on in the bar. Plus there was also some stains/marks on the bedding, so we went to reception to get them to change the bedding but we also enquired about an upgrade. As ever the staff were so friendly and helpful.
We were shown around the Villa and the new Pool Villa Suite which were just being finished. Both were nice, but the new Pool Villa Suites looked great, clean, modern and have a nice pool for relaxing in where as the older style villa ‘only’ had a plunge pool. There was still work going on around the grounds of the new Villas but as we were assured that the remaining works wouldn’t be noisy we decided to go for the new Villa, we were the very first guests in there!
We did experience a few teething problems in the first few days! No hot water the first night, and more noise than we were led to believe during the day as workers completed the new part of the resort. Despite being told the room was 100% finished, each day something new would appear! These were only minor things like cushions, bed runner and the turndown service only started on the last few nights. Minor details I know, but it’s those finishing touches which can make the difference between ‘OK’ and ‘Great’.
We were compensated for the noise and hot water issues and the other niggles were only minor I guess but they did take the shine off a little.
All of the front of house staff were excellent, always friendly and ready to help. The security guards who help you cross the road are great too!
The resort has a few good sized pools, but we didn’t use them as the Pool Villa Suite’s pool was great to chill out in or next too on the loungers (some had large bean bags).
The location is good, only a 10 minute or so walk down the beach to get to Fishermans Village, we ate down there every night except the night that we arrived when we ate at Chom Dao. Food and service were good at Chom Dao.
There are lots of nice restaurants down Fishermans Village, didn’t have a bad meal down there. There are also a few bars for a drink.
The beach at Bophut offers great views, but the sand is very coarse and as we found in most places not without litter; certainly not as clean as beaches in Australia or the lonely planet description!

In summary, full marks for the staff, they were all excellent, so friendly and helpful. Once the new area and villas are fully complete and the older rooms have had a bit of a freshen up it will be a great resort worthy of it’s ‘tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence’
If I could mark half points it would be 3.5, would have been much higher if it wasn’t for the issues with the first room and also the villa.

It is good hotell if you compare hotell prices, but it feels too exensive compare to prices outside. We got good service and very helpful personal. In hotell menu they could have some more vegetarian food alternatives. Their gym room is too small and with too few equipment and some of those were out of order. The advantage is hotell location which is placed not so far from Fisherman's village :-) Very nice and well handled garden. It could be more romantic to get breakfast closed to sea view.

Dear Valued Guests,

Thank you for staying with us at Bandara Resort & Spa!

We do apologize for the small gym. We are now working with a nearby gym to provide a more complete fitness experience. Breakfast by the sea is something we have considered. We totally agree with you that it would be absolutely fabulous.
