Stayed here at the end of October for 6 nights and it was a perfect choice. The hotel is right on the beach in the lovely Fisherman's Village of Bo Phut. We were lucky enough to be staying on a Friday night when the weekly night market is on which was a bonus but there are plenty of bars and restaurants in the village anyway. This hotel is a true gem and I just felt that the owners really cared for the hotel, staff and guests.

This is one of those places to unwind. So much of Koh Samui is being overwhelmed by uber resorts, The Waterfront takes a different route. Family owned and run by Robin and Sue, with a super helpful Thai team many of whom have been at this establishment for 10 years or more. A stroll through Fishermans Village provide a plethora of restaurants to choose from as well.
It was quite whilst we were there, the whole island was, but being lucky with the weather combines with The Waterfront's marvellous hospitality made a stay feel far too short. Great value too!
Oh nearly forgot to mention they've just installed a natural salt water swimming pool.

Room Tip: Splurge on the honeymoon suite by the beach, well worth it.

Stayed at the Waterfront for 5 nights, the best thing about this hotel is the location, right on the beach( 20 meters), we booked a sea view bungalow, 5 minute walk to Fishermans Village, where they have plenty of restaurants ( although a bit pricey).
Michael the owner's son showed us to our room and explained how every thing worked, which was much appreciated.
The rooms although quite small( 28 sq meters), the amenities were very good, tea and coffee facilities, bath robes, umbrella, torch and electric converter plug, a electronic safe, but it was very small, not even big enough for an ipad, but good for a wallet or camera etc, they were cleaned everyday to a good standard, they mostly cleaned our rooms while we had breakfast.
the downside was the bed was very small ( standard double), i am a restless sleeper and my wife was not impressed by the confined space, we have a king at home, the tv was the smallest i have ever seen in a hotel( 25 cm), which was a pain when you wanted to watch, not many English channels to watch, there was free internet connection which was usually good, in the night time it was not as good, and for some reason it was better at the pool than on our balcony.
The pool was very good and always clean, nice to cool off after a day of touring, and the surrounding areas were well kept, the free breakfast was not a buffet but a set menu, but it was quite sufficient and well presented, you could eat at the small dining area or at the eating area overlooking the beach, which we chose, it was very pleasant, most of the staff were quite friendly, without being over the top, i think because we did not eat there much and did not book our tours there, they were not as friendly as when we arrived, but they were okay, one time when i ate there, my wife bought thai food outside( as it was much cheaper) the older lady gave us a dirty look when she bought my food, and did not take the dishes away that my wife used, only mine, and another lady asked us to book out tours with them, but as we found a cheaper option in town, we did not book with them, the restaurant closed at 6.30 in the evening, which was too early for us, as we never got back from our tours until 5pm, and wanted to relax and shower before we ate, but there is a small restaurant called The Hut, which is right opposite the hotel, it was very good and for Samui's prices very cheap( see my review about the hut).
We did have lunch one time at the restaurant, while it was okay it was overpriced( which is the case in Samui) for food, just be aware that if you book a room with the hotel and eat or drink anything, they have a 5% surcharge. The hotel has a free airport pickup and drop off, which is very convenient, just make sure you have their phone number as they were not at the airport when we arrived, even though i emailed our arrival time, but after we rang them they picked us up within 10 minutes.
Overall i would recommend this hotel for a relaxing BEACH side holiday, as for me Samui is pricing itself out of the market, and we found a lot of people too pushy and not friendly, which is suprising to me as i have lived in Thailand for 5 years, and they DEPEND on tourists to survive, so not sure why they are like this, but MOST people were very friendly( especially on the street), would i go back to Samui NO there are plenty of other places to go-- Example Krabi.

Room Tip: The sea view bungalows offer the best views.

We stayed at the Waterfront in May and booked one of the beachfront bungalows. Absolutely perfect size with bed, air con and en-suite, what more do you need?!

We are used to doing self-catering so was a luxury for us to have breakfast provided and we had the pool more or less to ourselves due to it being low season.

Perhaps a little above our budget but hey, this is the south of Thailand! Great location in Bophut which is a lovely little village and The Waterfront is the perfect place to relax.

Our booked 15 night accommodation in the Waterfront family bungalow was cancelled by the resort management just ONE week before we were due to arrive for our holiday. Alternatives offered near to the Waterfront were nowhere near commensurate with our booked accommodation and it was stated that the resort facilities would be minimal. Our holiday expectations were in tatters. The cancellation was due to construction work on a new swimming pool being brought forward to be ready in time for the Christmas intake. With our flights already booked and paid for we had to quickly search for another hotel. Luckily, we know the area of Bophut and managed to find superb and superior alternative accommodation in the Hansar Samui Resort complete with a fabulous sea view balcony. As returning clients to the Waterfront we felt totally let down and were just presented with a fait acccompli by the resort management.

We are very sorry and disappointed that the reviewers and previous guests felt so strongly about our unavoidable situation. As we explained our contractors here changed the contract date and as happens here quite often we were told to accept it or forget it.We couldn't risk our peak season trade being disrupted so reluctantly we immediately contacted all our bookings.Offering similar rooms 200 metres away, free cancellation or help with alternative hotels in Bophut. We still offered free airport transfer and Breakfast here if required. We also knew at this time of the year that alternative accommadation would be quite easy as our reviewer found out. We are very pleased they were very satisfied with their alternative hotel.
Most other guests were very understanding and satisfied with the arrangements we made.In fact 2 guests who have stayed 6 times before had breakfast every day and said they were pleased for us as they watched the new pool being built.Actually we have been blessed with good weather and the pool is 95% completed so from a business decision we feel vindicated.
We are very sorry that these previous felt so strongly and added this review.
As hoteliers we don't wish to make problems for our guests as it would be make no sense.Obviously it was expensive for ourselves with lost revenue and costruction but the timing was unavoidable.

I had the pleasure of staying at The Waterfront for a week recently and must say, they do a lot of things right. The cleanliness of my room was superb and the housekeeping staff were some of the few smiles I saw from locals while on Samui. (the majority of locals everywhere on the Island genuinely seem rude & bitter towards tourists) The location of the Waterfront is what is really hard to beat. Located at the eastern (quiet) end of Fisherman's Village it is minutes away from all of the swank eateries and shops but very quiet at night. **No need to go to any of those flashy restaurants mind you as there is a little restaurant 15 steps away from the Waterfront called "The Hut" which was BY FAR our favourite restaurant on the island: AMAZING Chicken Pad Thai = 79 Baht (less than $3), and every cocktail imaginable, not to mention delicious prawn spring rolls…etc. I would have stayed longer at The Waterfront but as a photographer, I have a lot of gear, baggage, etc with me and found my waterfront bungalow simply too small for my needs as I was always working from my room most nights. Once I started looking around at 'slow/rainy-season' options, I found an ocean front bungalows twice the size, for less money with a huge, amazing breakfast included. My advice is this: unless you are travelling at high season, only book a few nights and make sure it is what YOU want, if it isn't, at least you're not locked in for an extended period. The staff was hit or miss (service on the Island of Samui in general is, bar none, the worst I have ever experienced ANYWHERE).

The clientele at The Waterfront was mostly Australian or German and during my stay I was really pleased that there were no screaming kids disrupting the serenity of this delightful little spot. Would I stay here again: ABSOLUTELY. Would I come back to Samui: NEVER. There are simply way too many other amazing island destinations where the locals, shop owners, restaurants and vibe appreciates tourism and understands that without us, they have no jobs.

**the Friday night street market is crazy busy, but superb and a must-do if you find yourself on Samui. It starts basically at the Waterfront end of the Fisherman's Village Road and consumes the entire street from 5pm to 10-ish pm every Friday** Lots of crafts, food stalls (Squid satay anyone?!) and interesting indigenous handicrafts.
