“Hugely Disappointing”
Reviewed 5 August 2009

I stayed here having read reviews on Tripadvisor and was hugely disappointed. Was expecting a very nice little hotel on the back of what other people had written.

Met at the airport by a very rude driver who hardly spoke to us and didn't even offer to help us with our bags. The room was downstairs and the floor was filthy. Whilst there is certainly a nice view, common to most of Bophut, this was ruined by the total lack of privacy afforded - our view consisted of sunbathers staring right back at us into the room.

There seemed to be very little atmosphere, the inside of the hotel is claustrophobic and, again, was very disappointed. Management were rude or stand-offish - haven't quite worked out which as they did not even bother to say hello to us once, which was strange as the place was not full. There are nicer, more friendly, helpful and cleaner places pretty much next door. I would expect this level of service at a 2* hotel, just about and at least accept that. This hotel does not justify the 3600 Baht it costs (not overly pricey, but pretty expensive for Thailand). Cost not at all the issue, but would have expected a lot more, unless Thailand has turned from "land of the smiles" to one of the more sulky or sullen places. I would not recommend this hotel to anybody.

A beautiful, calm, peaceful boutique hotel in a quiet street with direct access to the beach, but just a short walk from some great bars and restaurants. My room had a balcony that overlooked the beach and had a wonderful view too. Fantastic, friendly staff too with lovely food served outdoors. Wish I could have stayed more than two nights.

We have just come home from this wonderful piece of paradise. It was all that it's website said and more. Great rooms, helpful staff. We only walked a couple of minutes to the Fisherman's village where there were great restaurants and inexpensive shopping. We have never been to a hotel where we could relax so easily. We will definitely be going back!

I recently spent 3 nights at Baan Bophut and highly recommend it. I have stayed at several different areas and different accommodations on Koh Samui and found Baan Bophut's facilities, service, location and value to be superior.

The rooms are spacious, tastefully decorated, quiet, and comfortable and our view of the ocean and Ko Phangan was stunning. From our room it was only about 20 meters to the sea and all of 5 meters to the small, delightful swimming pool. The hotel breakfast and fruit shakes were excellent.

Lucy and her staff were always friendly and helpful and created a friendly atmosphere. We enjoyed chatting with the handful of other guests and with guests from several neighboring hotels who chose to spend their time at Baan Bophut because they told us the food and facilities and atmosphere were better than at their own hotels (surprisingly these other hotels are ranked higher, and almost as high on this Trip Advisor survey).

Baan Bophut's location was a good base for our boat trip to Koh Tao, our motorcycle tour of island, and especially for enjoying the shops and cafes of Fisherman Village. The Fisherman Village restaurants (Starfish & Coffee, Shades, The Shack, etc.) were excellent and only a five minute walk. We found strolling along Fisherman Village's main street at night to be very pleasant and charming and the restaurants far, far superior to others on the island.

The only real downside is the Bophut beach itself. The beach immediately in front of the hotel is rocky and difficult to enter relative to the soft sand in other parts of Samui. If your priority is swimming in the sea (and walking barefoot in the sand) you may be better to find accommodations on Chaweng Beach. Otherwise this is a great choice.

I booked this hotel after reading all the reviews including the one about how you can't swim here and I would agree, the sand here isn't the softest and you cant really swim here but I still think that the area is the nicest to and the hotel was quite good, room was nice and clean and had one with a seaview which included quite a good size balcony which was nice and unexpected. There is limited option for the inclusive breakfast, it is just cereal and a crossaint, if you want toast or anything have to pay for it. Overall not too bad for the money and good location.

Oh and very comfy big king size beds.

We stopped off en route to koh phangan. The hotel and staff are great. Very clean rooms with smart decor. Outside, the gardens and pool are also well maintained and you can walk straight out onto the beach.

Almost wish we stayed a few more nights...

Baan means home and that is what Baan Bophut is.
We were lucky enough to be there when the Holt family were all together and it was like being at a wonderful family party.
The rooms were very clean and comfortable - everything that has been said about the beds is true. Spent 3 weeks here and never tired of the wonderful view and the relaxing atmosphere.
All the staff are kind, caring and incredibly friendly - from Tik the barman, Mia on reception, Mai and John in the restaurant through to the angels who flit into your room whilst you are at breakfast and restore order.
