“Wonderful Experience”
Reviewed 7 February 2012

I stayed here for 4 nights with my boyfriend and bestfriend, we stayed in the Family Fan Bungalow. This was the first stop of our 3 week travel around the south of Thailand, and no back home this was my favorite bungalow experience that I had. My reasons being it was quiet clean well lit and the beds were quite comfortable (relatively speaking... as most of the beds we slept in were quite hard). We had two nice hammocks outside with benches.
The food was fantastic but more expensive than the other restaurants in the Fisherman Village which was only a 10 minute walk down the beach. So we ended up going to this nice little restaurant called Cocooning for breakfasts most morning. If I could do it again I would eat more often at Free House because the Green Curry I had there was by far the best I had during the trip.
I would definately stay here again!

Room Tip: Our fan room was more than satisfactory for the heat, although it wasn't scorching hot weather a...

We stayed in a fan bungalow that came with a mosquito net for 400baht. Great price. Porch outside had a hammock that we made good use of. Everything worked. Sand on the beach is a little coarse and hurts the feet, but the water was pretty nice. Restaurants in the nearby area are much cheaper and the food is just as good so we didn t really eat at the resort because the food was really overpriced. The bungalow was cheap so we d stay there again, but I wouldn t recommend eating in the restaurant, and the bungalows don t have wifi. Oh and water is expensive! Buying from the marts nearby is like a tenth the cost. Fishermans village is more of a 20min then 10min walk so we only went once but it was fun.

We have been at the Free House Bungalow in November 2011. This is kind of off season on the island which means is a bit more quite and relaxing. Very good! ;)

Well, obviously Free House Bungalow is a budget accommodation (some revierwer forgot it). We had a small fan bungalow ...this one was basic but clean and comfortable. We had a safe in our room which is absolutly EXCELLENT!!!! The mosquitto net over the bed is very good (and kind of romantic) and you can hear the waves if you are lying in your bed. The outside hammock was quite relaxing! The room cleaning was daily and we can't complain...everything done what has to be done ;)

This is a family business...don't expect a resort like service. All staff is friendly but some are a bit "shy"...but it's not a problem..they always try to help you as good as they can. There are 4 dogs around which are belonging to the resort. All of them are very friendly but NEVER getting on your nervous. They are defnitly not interesting in begging for food and they are only coming to you if you call them (actually the most time they are to lazy to come to you ;I ).
The food in the restaurant is good and you can sit directly at the beach which is wonderful...

We really enjoyed the stay and defnitly recommend this place to everybody who loves to stay at a nice low budget family-run place, directly at the beach!!

Room Tip: They have small and big wodden fan bungalows for the same price. We haven't seen the big one, bu...

Free House Bungalows are in a really good location if you want to get away from the main hub but still feel part of the action. You can walk along the beach to get to the main strip where the restaurants, shops and bars are located, or along the main road - the beach is better! We stayed here over New Year and it was quiet, clean and friendly. There is an onsite restaurant and bar and a laundrette at the top of the access lane. I recommend going for a massage two doors down from Free House on the beach too!

The food here is amazing. Good quality, generous amounts and tasty! You can sit in the restaurant and watch the sea lap the shore. Locally there are other restaurants too if you fancy a change of scene not too far away.

We stayed in a private bungalow with a adjoining door to our friend staying in the bungalow next door. The rooms were clean, a little dusty in places but nothing to complain about. The linen was changed regularly and mozzy nets were untangled and put back neatly! There were hammocks outside the front of each bungalow which are a nice touch. We felt safe staying here too.

Nice simple bungalows for a good price, excellent food in the restaurant (although in general food is expensive along Ko Samui beaches; same here), restaurant area and general premises are nicely decorated and maintained well. The only problem is the staff, especially the thai lady who runs things. She is about the most unfriendly thai person I have met, doesn't smile and does not make you feel welcome and therefore spoils the relaxed atmosphere that is otherwise unique for the Bho Put beaches (instead of Chaweng). Making money is her game, for instance selling me a taxi ride at 300 baht which proved to be her neighbour in his private car; of course most of the money went to her! She also openly mocked me for not knowing right away how the rental motorbike worked. To me that was quite a showstopper, and therefore I left sooner than planned. So until this lady is replaced I would not recommend the freehouse.

Free House is not for those looking for Luxury. The rooms are very basic but clean. The location is probably the best we stayed at any where on Koh Samui and the staff and food is fantastic.Breaiew. At night we had a wonderful supper right on the beach .Breakfast was eaten on the verhanda which has a stunning view. The nights were spent drinking cocktails while laying on loungers with the sea lapping the feet of the chairs. Magnificent and going back in December. Love you Free House.

This was our second visit to The Free House Bungalows. We left with mixed feelings about this place. The photos are clever as they make it look more bright and luxurious than it is in reality. The accommodation is BASIC, we found it clean and the mosquito nets are a bonus. The rooms are dark and no chairs or place to sit could be a serious pain if there was bad weather. Luckily we had pretty good weather so didn't spend much time in the rooms. The hammocks outside the rooms were enjoyed and the atmosphere was fairly relaxed. Some staff were lovely (the massage lady for example was very sweet and gave a good massage on the beach).

We had breakfast at the restaurant every day as the food was nice and it was convenient. We would have eaten there for lunch every day if it was not for the fact that at every meal I had to question the price charged as it was always more than it should have been according to menu price. There were 6 of us so we usually ordered a mix of things. Having to check the bill against the menu and then confront the woman at the bar (who was not very friendly) was quite stressful and made us not want to eat there. So my advise is to check your bill carefully as mistakes seem to be made easily. (we did not find this to be the case elsewhere in Ko Samui or Ko Tao, as after this we always checked our bills and kept a mental total)

As for the location, it suited us as it was not busy and there were a few sun beds and umbrellas provided. The sea is so warm though not very clear and seems safe to swim for families. I found the water sports stuff located a short walk up the beach e.g. banana and speed boat for example, spoiled the tranquility but I guess there's a business to be made and it was not continuous noise so bearable.

We walked to fisherman's village from there most evenings and it was fine about 20 to 30 minutes and there is a kind of pavement so that was ok.

To summarise the place is value for money but or experience at the restaurant put us off returning after our trip to Ko Tao and we went to Mae Nam instead.
