This is an unusual review - because we had a very unusual experience associated with Tides in Koh Samui. Read on. It is not a lovely read. Ours was not a nice experience with Tides and it's important that others who trust TripAdvisor are made aware of this experience ... We were out walking in Koh Samui having a lovely day and were interrupted by two people on a motor scooter. One of the people claimed to be British and the other Russian. There are lots of Russians busy in Thailand, particularly in the South. It was obvious that we were foreigners (farangs). We were asked if we spoke English? Being Brit and perhaps over trusting and maybe gullible we confirmed that we did. The game was on. A Thai taxi suddenly stopped behind the scooter. After some gregarious interchange between the driver of the scooter offering all kinds of treats for us if we took the taxi to Tides - which we did. We were duly driven to Tides where we were (again) gregariously introduced to the person on duty at reception. The experience then turned quite "cold" and after some time being "interrogated" at reception and having to provide personal information we were then told that none of the "offerings" could be afforded us as Tides currently had no one available to show us around. There were no staff available. The gregarious scooter people had disappeared. The promised coffee (even mentioned at time of pickup by name/brand) was not available. The promised "party" on their beach was not happening and we seriously realized that we were in the process of being "hoodwinked" in our terms of the definition. Not a nice experience. To Tides credit after being unable to deliver upon the promises made by the "scooter touts" they did return us to our destination. Things had gone very cold. An unnerving experience for us. Other travelers please take care when stopped and "charmed" by touts in Thailand. We believe that we were lucky as things could perhaps have turned out a lot worse. We returned home unnerved. This was our only negative experience in many, many weeks touring and holidying in Thailand. TripAdvisor readers please take care and beware. The reception area at Tides even had a TripAdvisor plaque at reception which comforted us somewhat during our ordeal. Be careful. Don't be toooo trusting of strangers who promise the earth and try and lure you to unknown places. We learnt a valuable lesson.

We would have stayed at this resort had we not been ‘husseled’ by two westerners claiming we had won a ‘prize’ all we had to do is be escorted to the resort so they could receive commission. We didn’t go, but these two showed up at the hotel we were staying at requesting our room number from the reception staff.
Please Tides, your resort looks beautiful enough that you don’t need this kind of “advertising”

We had 2nights @ Tides & stayed in a Beachfront villa which has its own small infinity pool facing out to the bay with seperate living & sleeping areas ( kitchen facilities included) . We got to enjoy 2 amazing sunsets sat in our pool.
It is a boutique resort set in a peaceful, relaxing, beautiful location with fabulous views.
With only 14 villas (only 2 of which are Beachfront) all with pools or jacuzzis you get great customer service. The villas are cleaned daily & kept spotless.
Ate breakfast which was superb with lots of choice & we ate dinner one evening which was a gastronomic delight.....fab Chef.
We loved it so much we will be back next year so long as we can book Beachfront villa again.
Big thank you to Annie for organising everything for us & Ian for introducing us to Tides Members

Swim in your own private pool, have your own private Jacuzzi, or laze about all day in the resort pool which overlooks the ocean and near by islands, drinking from the resorts bar and eating from their kitchen then this is the getaway heaven for you. My wife and I rode a scooter around the entire island at a comfortable pace in 2 hours.

We stayed for 5 nights in a beach front villa and absolutely loved it. The view was amazing and we saw some lovely sunsets. One of our favourite things to do was to sit in the pool with a drink as the sun went down and watch the locals come out to fish.
The resort is small with only 14 bungalows so it feels very quiet. We hardly saw anyone else whilst we were there and were often the only ones in the restaurant. If you want something a bit more lively then the hotel will arrange a taxi to fisherman’s village or Chaweng which costs about 400 baht one way. There are a few restaurants about 10-15 minute walk where you can also find car hire and Thai massages.
The sand on the beach is soft but the beach itself is quite small. As you walk into the water it gets a bit shingly so water shoes are useful. The water is also very shallow and you can walk out several hundred meters and not be out your depth.
Overall we loved the peace and quiet whilst still being able to easily get to somewhere livelier.
