“Wonderful place to relax and eat well at a reasonable price”
Reviewed 27 June 2013

This was our third visit to Laborderie and this time we stayed for a week. We had managed to book one of the larger ground floor rooms in the annexe overlooking the garden and pool which meant that some days we were very happy to stay at the hotel and enjoy its facilities. The restaurant is really excellent and fantastic value - you won't be disappointed, or go hungry!
The owners are slightly quirky which I think explains some of the comments made by other visitors. But if you simply relax and take a bit of time to chat, you will find that they are lovely people and really want you to enjoy your stay. Finally, book well in advance if you want a particular room as many of the guests go every year and book for next year when checking out - as we did!

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms in the annexe are the nicest.

We stayed 2 nights while on a walking tour in the region. The hotel sits at the top of a hill overlooking a beautiful country side. Admittedly I arrived weary after a big days walking, but I did find reception a bit short and uncooperative. Our group had 3 rooms. The other two couples had pleasant ground floor pool side rooms with communal lounge and generous deck area. We were in an upstairs room with panoramic views, but smelly for a day, from the downstairs or next door smokers. Rooms spacious, clean but basic, restaurant hearty local fair. Not my preference, and for 2 nights nothing else to choose. Others in the group loved the food. Reasonable pricing. Nothing much to do on our lay day, hotel suggested a drive to a local town montignac for a salad fix and walk along the river. That was nice.

This hotel was a highlight of our first visit to Perigord 30 years ago. It's much larger now, with a pool and many more rooms - however the area is still beautiful and there is much to do in the area. The rooms are large and comfortable - but basic. However the restaurant is superb and the 5 course menu is outstanding value at €22. The owner/manager is attentive and keeps his eye on everything from early morning to late evening.

family has a cottage locally near Thenon so been coming here for 20 years, just to eat and also to swim in the etang at the bottom of the village.
Always excellent food - exciting and well prepared. if your kids are rowdy you can sit outside. moderately formal inside. . We speak french, but noted the menu is now in (poor) english as well. Try the creme brulee!.
You see locals, Parisiens, expats and foreigners in here - because it is so good. You can eat the Perigourdien stuff (duck, foie gras etc) but there is plenty of other choice.
Menu prices have rising a bit in 2011, but they have everywhere with the drought in France and the world food situation.

We rented a home for 3 weeks in Tamnies, and at the owner's suggestion we booked a dinner here for 10 persons upon our arrival in Perigord Noir. It was the first of several wonderful meals. The Inn is lovely and the restaurant enjoys a local reputation as a good place for dinner and celebrations judging by the number of apparently local folks dining there. It is a family run place, and co-owner Jacqueline (her husband is the Chef) was ever-present and greeted us warmly each time we appeared. The ambience is charming (but not formal) and seating is comfortable in the main dining rooms.

Food is beautifully presented, portions are generous, and best of all it 's delicious! The selections on the 3 course menus is varied, plus a daily plat du jour, and you may select a dessert of your choice from the Carte. Their Creme Brulee was amazing. IT was, all agreed an excellent value for money.

For us, Laborderie was convenient; even if we were further away, it's worth a drive to Tamnies (just off the main small road).

Best service and food we have ever had and for a reasonable price.
Even the fixed menu could be changed, my wife is a vegetarian.
Room quality varied with price. Don't take the cheapest ones as it can be noisy outside from 6 o' clock each morning as people start work
Countryside location allows a walk each evening before or after dinner
Location is away from traffic and nightlife, of which there is none
Excellent as a centre to visit everywhere in Perigord
Swimming pool and hot tub were a wonderful end to a touring day
