“Lunchtime stopover”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 March 2013

We were traveling in the region and needed lunch. We were not smartly dressed but as they advertised a 12 Euros menu and we were hungry we went in.

Wow... the 12 Euro meal was great and the staff treated us as anyone else. Typically French.

The food was 10/10 and the service was as if we were in a 5 star restaurant.

It looks like a great hotel to stay and if you went a la carte in the restaurant then you would have some incredible meals.

Bravo...

While visiting the lands of foie gras and truffle, how better to learn the culture than to take a cooking class with a chef that has been here for 30 years? The weekend cooking class was well worth the investment. The price is reasonable because you get 6 excellent meals, two nights stay in a luxury room, a farm tour, a market tour, and a cooking demonstration. The three highlights: the hotel room was spacious with brand new floors and furniture, and had one of the most luxurious bathrooms I've been in (seriously awesome). Then, visiting the farm to see how geese are raised is quite an interesting experience considering the controversy on force feeding. Lola, the farm dog, was such a good "host" that she even found a few truffles for us. Lastly, we chose the foie gras cooking demonstration and had a chance to make terrine, confit, and work on a duck.

Overall, one of the best traveling experiences we've had and would definitely recommend for the culturally and culinarily curious.

Yummy food, bud sadly the road you see is the equivalent of a high way in the rural parts... Quite busy and noisy. Luckily we had a room in the back! Beware of when it is truffle season (12/12-15/2), otherwise you might be disappointed.
Make sure you let the sommelier decide on a wine for you. He is very wise in pairing wines with food!

This little hotel was a gem of a find after a trip to the vineyards. We had a room in the quiet village square of hotel de la Mairie but ate dinner on the terrace at the Auberge de la truffle. The swimming pool was just what we needed after a hot day and the service by the Head Waiter/hotel manager was exemplary. Rooms cool and well designed. A return for us as the food was excellent.

Room Tip: Sleep in the Annex of hotel de la marie away from the main road. Eat on the terrace on a warm night.

While Sorges is a very small village the auberge is absolutely 1st class. The rooms may be small but very comfortable and clean. The restaurant is such a great experience that we stayed longer than we first expected. The staff are all better than could be expected and we would recommend that if you are within the area that you should stay here, the chef is superb and we had a great stay.

Room Tip: Stay in the Marie annex and ask for a balcony

Take my word for it on this one, having suffered the good the bad and ugly on many touring holidays in france, this hoterl is worth the detour,
well run ,pleasant polite staff (no im not kidding)and the plat de jour lunchtime ,i doubt if you will find better.

Room Tip: you may be put in the annex hotel over the road like us ,but these rooms are great

On the way to Dordogne Valley, we made our first stop at Auberge De La Truffe, which was such a great experience, that throughout the entire trip we tried, nearly always in vain, to find places which offer such high quality of hospitality. The zenith of the stay was the meal in the gourmet restaurant of the hotel. Only for these three delightful hours, it is worthwhile picking this place. It is hard to get in France such a stupendous meal without having to mortgage your house. The set menus of 23 or 28 Euro are a delight, and for 44 you'll be treated for a real feast with truffles and fois gras.
