Villa Grassina is great for what it offers for the price.
The terrace offers fabulous views over the Tuscan countryside. The pool is big but busy at times.
The restaurant open several evenings a week offers reasonable food. We were given pears, tomatoes etc from the estate.
Villa Grassina offers many apartments and they are fairly basic in terms of catering facilities and service involves making up your own beds etc. There is one washing machine outdoors for all to share.
Facilities include a table tennis table, tennis courts and a trampoline. The garden is beautiful.
Basically it is good value for what it offers but is not for anyone who is looking for upmarket accommodation. The hosts are very friendly and go out of their way to help.

We were excited and nervous when we invited 46 guests to a wedding in a foreign country and to a place which we had never seen. We did not need to worry!!! This place is charming and beautiful and the people who work there are all angels. They made our stay unforgettable. Our wedding was just like a fairytale, every detail that we wanted was met, and to be honest there were a few :) The wedding party stayed for a week enjoing playing tennis, hiking in the area, playing in the pool or drinking a glass of wine in the lovely garden in front of the chapel, and the kids loved the playing area. The appartements where lovely furnished in a typical Tuscan style. We can absolutely recommend this charming 12th century villa, and we will definitely come again.

We have just returned from a week at villa grassina and it was a fabulous week!
The estate is just beautiful, in the most amazing surroundings. We stayed in the main house and had breathtaking views across the countryside from our window.
There was plenty ro keep the children (5 and 9) busy with outdoors toys, tennis court and walks around the property.
You really need a car to get to the property as it is up a very steep winding track, much fun to drive up!
The staff were attentive and made us feel very welcome and available ro answer any local quieries.
Pelago is very small, but has a wrll stocked shop, couple of bars and ice cream place and ponttasieve is only a short drive with a larger variety of shops and restaurants.

I booked Villa Grassina last minute and I had no idea how beautiful it was until we arrived. My husband and I got a one bedroom apartment and though the kitchen/sitting area was small it was efficiently outfitted. Our room had an upstairs loft and the bed was very comfortable - probably the best sleep we've had in months. The staff were wonderful - we got to know Suzanna most and she was very helpful in suggestions for sightseeing and in setting up the rest of our vacation. And the olive oil and honey the farm produces - so good! We had dinner in the restaurant on the Saturday that we arrived and it was very good and a nice chance to meet some of the other guests staying at the Villa. Can't say enough good things about it - Absolutely fabulous value for $. Beautiful setting, great people. Make sure to take the tour (Thurs aft usually) which includes some wine tasting and Tuscan style appetizers. As well, get details on local business and museum hours when you arrive so you can plan your sightseeing, shopping and dining out.

We spent a week there with family (two young kids, age of 3 and 5) in May. The apartman was clean and spacous and we also had a spectacular view. The children enjoyed the playground and its surrounding. Staff were really nice, food was great and there were so many great and charming villages very close to this villa.

The Place to stay at in Tuscany, when you are looking for a reasonably priced, charming, calm place with friendly staff. It's ideal for singles, couples, families, friends, elderly or young travelers, everyone - except for those looking for busy nightlife. It's the place to relax, "recharge the batteries", enjoy nature, simple but satisfying conditions. After a day or two Villa Grassina makes you feel as if you were in your own holiday house in the countryside. No luxury, it's what it offers: agriturismo.
There is a restaurant in the villa, which offers 5-6 delicious local dishes, but not every day. There is "bun service", you need to sign up the previous day at the reception (both for lunch, dinner and programmes), and you can pick up fresh rolls, buns, croissant in the morning there. Other than that, there is shopping possibilities both in Pelago and in Pontassieve.
The apartments are clean, neat and equipped with kitchen utensils, towels, bed sheets, however, you need to take kitchen towels, soap, sponge with you (if you stay for a longer time, there is sufficient possibility to wash your clothes too.) The villa offers a round tour at the property, telling you about the interesting history of the villa, combined with olive oil and wine tasting, which are local products. Don't miss it, it's great! The olive oil the villa produces is the best extra virgin one we have ever had! Also a perfect gift you can buy at the reception along with other local goodies (like wine, chestnut sweets, honey and beauty products made of olive).
Swimming pool is nice, big and clean, there is also a jacuzzi. Children have plenty of safe place to play and run around at, the villa's area is full of charming spots to relax at with some coffee (they make good one at the reception) or wine, enjoying the hilly, Tuscan landscape and a view to Pelago village in the valley.
There are nice restaurants both in Pelago and in Pontassieve, they offer a few at the villa (don't miss the one in Pontassieve that serves great fish dishes!). Keep in mind that Italians are serious about their mid-day siesta, restaurants won't be open between 3-7 pm. When you wake up late and have a late breakfast, maybe visit a town, then you are about to have lunch at around 3, but everything is closed, then either you make do with a slice of pizza (not after 3 days, I'm telling you...), you cook for yourself in the apartment, or adjust yourself to Italian dining habits. We love Italian food, but we were unhappy to discover that nearly all restaurants offer tipical tourist menus, like pizza, pasta, salad, very little variety of meat, basically the same menu everywhere, however, we are sure Italian kitchen is far more than that, and one can get really tired of these dishes after a few days. Credits here for the villa, they offer a variety of home-made style Tuscan food (keep that up, guys, it's a very good idea!).
If you want to visit Florence, leave the car in Pontassieve and take the train, it's a 20-min. trip, cheap, and no trouble with parking, which is not easy in Florence or in any other cities. Pelago is a good starting point to visit towns within a 100-km circle, such as Florence, Sienna, Pisa, Lucca, Cortona (our personal favourite). When planning a trip to one of these towns, keep in mind that either you take (and pay for) the highway, which is ugly, fast and the shortest solution to get from A to B, or you take the small roads indicated on the map, which are beautiful, but really long and slow, also narrow and curvy. There is no alternative!
I could go on and on praising Villa Grassina, but I only finish with expressing my hope that I will also become one of the many travelers who regularly return there through the years. Thank you, Villa Grassina owners and staff, keep this good job and the passion up!
