“Charming accommodation outside Florence”
Reviewed 3 October 2013

We had two ground-floor rooms in this hotel and stayed two nights whilst exploring Florence. It was very difficult to find as our GPS wanted to stop us half way up the street and it was only with the help of neighbours that we actually arrived there. At the top of a mountain up very narrow streets made us think twice about leaving and having to drive back up again. Once there, it is well worth the hassle. The staff are obliging and friendly and the rooms charming. They have a bar in the building and upstairs is the breakfast room. We used both and found them to be adequate. The jewel in the crown is the wonderful restaurant that is attached to the hotel (although it has a different owner). We were treated to fabulous food at affordable prices. The chef/owner and staff knew their stuff and were extremely friendly as well as professional. we left the ordering to them and were extremely happy with the results. Glad we didn't miss this stop and would absolutely recommend to anyone wishing to immerse themselves into the Tuscan lifestyle

Room Tip: Main building ground floor rooms are best

We recently stayed at the Hotel Villa Ambrosina and were extremely pleased with the immaculate rooms and gorgeous views. The staff of Enzio, Stephan and Juliette should write a how-to-run-a-hotel instruction booklet. They couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating. We HIGHLY recommend this jewel of a hotel!!!

The hotel is situated close to Impruneta and it will take you 30minutes by car to the center of florence. The hotel is on a mountain top with a nice view over some hills and valleys and a bit of Florence. The hotel´s restaurant has a nice view from the terrace. Parking is free. But you need your own car, otherwise you will be stuck there!

The bad was:

- many MOSKITOS - but that´s how it is in the summer.
- NO INTERNET in the smaller building (even though the staff told me it should work). This was very bad, cause I work over the internet and so I had to go to the main building and sit next to the small reception if I wanted access.
- the ROOMS in the smaller building look good on fotos, but are NOT GOOD! The shower had fungus, the cabinet was very small so I could only lift my arms to shampoo when standing diagonal, the shower head was totally jammed by lime and sprayed a tiny drizzle of water - and that in every direction. The room itself is very basic (even though is intended to look stylish). The bed is very basic and too soft (in my opinion).

Room Tip: Get a room in the main building!

The hotel is very hard to be found if you follow the GPS/Google directions; it takes you to on a very difficult itinerary through narrow and steep streets crowded with other cars. If you don't hit anything on the way up, it's your lucky day! The easy trip as pointed to us by the hotel concierge is the one that continues on the main highway, SR2, from Florence and just keep going until you see a pretty big sign with Villa Ambrosina on your left hand. From here the road (it is still called Via Montebuoni) takes you up in a much easier way, there are no houses, no other cars, pretty simple.
The hotel is a very pleasant surprise; the location is absolutely magnificent on top of the hill, nicely maintained grounds with fantastic views. It is fully worth the effort. We got a top suite with exit on the roof, it was so beautiful, we could even see the top of the Dome in Florence!
The rooms were not exactly at the same level with the location, a little old and uncomfortable. The sofa bed in the extra room was absolutely a torture, and the bed in the main bedroom was squeaking at every little touch. To add to this, the air conditioning did not work making the nights unbearably hot. The bathroom on the other side was nice, large, apparently newly re-modeled.
On the good side the hotel has an excellent restaurant where groups of tourists come regularly to have dinner. The food was absolutely awesome, fresh and tasty.
The breakfast was simple but OK if you do not have to pay for it. Good coffee and croissants. There is a nice patio at the entrance at the hotel with comfortable chairs, where after a full day, you can relax and enjoy a drink (your own or from the hotel bar) at the candlelight.
Going to Florence is not as complicated as it seems. Many people recommend taking the bus from the Market in the village. But with the help of the GPS we found that driving straight to the center of Florence is not that complicated either. If you go on a Sunday, remember there is free parking anywhere behind the blue lines.
Overall we liked it, we will return with pleasure, hoping that the rooms will be improved. The location is too beautiful!

Room Tip: Get a roof top room, you can get on the large balcony and savour the beauty of the surroundings.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights in May.
The hotel itself was clean and we were lucky to get upgraded to a superior room with a four poster bed. The room was beautifully decorated, comfortable and clean. Bathroom was large with an amazing big shower.
The hotel is on the top of the hill with a lovely view. A car is most definately required for a stay here. In rush hour it took us almost 50 minutes to drive from Florence to the hotel but the journey should usually take 30 minutes. The bus from Florence drops you in the nearby town which is a 10-15 minute walk (up a huge hill) to the hotel. A taxi to Florence cost us €23. Therefore this hotel would not be a good choice if one intended on exploring Florence city without a car.
We ate in the restaurant one night. Food was slightly expensive but staff were friendly and attentive.
Staff at the front desk were also very helpful.
The wi-fi didnt work in our room and we had to go to the reception for a connection. There is a computer in reception which guests can use free of charge.

The hotel itself was lovely and charming but location needs to be considered in accordance with the guests needs.
I would probably not stay here again if visiting Florence purely due to location only.

This hotel is located on a hill. The center of Florence (Piazzale Michelangelo) can be reached by car in 10 minutes. The hotel has a very good Italian restaurant, free parking. In the morning a good breakfast (coffee, jam, yogurt). This room has wi-fi internet. From the window of the hotel is a beautiful view of the hills of Tuscany and Florence. Small inconvenience - the road to the hotel from the highway about a kilometer long climbs steeply and her several sharp turns.
