“I hated this place!”
Reviewed 22 June 2010

I really wouldn't recommend this place if you are 2 females travelling alone. We were made to feel incredible uncomfortable by the staff, one man thought it was OK to try and kiss our cheeks at every available opportunity and butt in, whilst we were trying to talk to each other.
One female member of staff felt the need to shout at us when THEY booked a cab for us by mistake. No one seemed to speak very good English at all.
The rooms are very old fashioned & uncomfortable with no tea or coffee making facilities and no welcome pack.
It's miles out of Florence, up a really steep hill and just basically a horribl;e place to visit!
My recommendation, go to Florence it's awesome, but stay far FAR away from this place!

Two couples travelling in Tuscany, using this lovely hotel as base. Yes, it is up in the hill, but the view is beautiful. You will need a car, definitely and park the car to get the bus to the city centre. Park your car close to the bus station, and enjoy walking in Florence. Rooms were well decorated and breakfast was OK. Very friendly staff. Free parking. Yes, the restaurant down the hill is really good. We were there every night for dinner. And we had met the same people having dinner there, also, evey night. They were Italians. I will definitely recomend and return to this hotel.

We were 2 couples traveling in Italy for one week driving a large American van. Our biggest concern was founding a hotel that had adequate parking and this hotel has plenty. They listed having a bus stop nearby, which we had planned on taking until we drove up the hill. There was no way we could have managed hiking up that very steep hill after a day of walking in Florence. Instead, we drove into town and parked easily in a lot by the train station. The directions to the hotel were a little hard to follow, but we found it eventually. The rooms were very nicely decorated and roomy. The staff was very friendly and helpful and most spoke English. The breakfast was simple, but plentiful with breads, yogurt, cereals, fruit and coffee. The internet connection was weak and they charged a fee. There was an adjoining restaurant, not run by the hotel, that served good food.

Stayed here with my husband and two children ages 9 and 11. Beautiful hotel with breath taking views from your room over looking the Chianti Valley. Request the main building , very clean, large rooms beautifully decorated in Tuscan design. The other buidling look older and not as nice. You need a car to get around. Approx. 20 minute drive to Florence and 50 minute drive to Pisa. Great hotel staff very nice and helpfull. Hill is steep but not sure why one would have to walk the hill? I would think everyone staying here would have a car otherwise how would one get to this location? Would go back in a heart beat.

TIP... do not us the restarant yes it is very clean with nice food, but it is usualy full of coach loads of tourists ,if you really want the true flavour of Tuscany, just at the bottom of the hill there is the most fantastic local restarant selling Tuscan specialitys ,steak, porcini mushrooms, wild boar ect.

The hill....many reviews talked about the hill that this sat atop. Nobody described it accurately. You either need a car, or be prepared to walk up VERY steep switchbacks for about a mile with your bags. The plus side is that the road winds through a beautiful residential area, and goes by some old churches, with beautiful views along the way.
After a lot of complaining from my family, once at the Villa Ambrosina, we were Thrilled. It is a beautifully maintained property with views of the valley that are STUNNING. The room was quite large, very clean and the bathroom was the largest we had while in Italy. If you have a car, or like to hike, this is a great place to stay.

The Hotel Villa Ambrosina is a lovely , warm and friendly hotel and staff on a hill overlooking the Chianti region. The view from our room was beautiful. The room was large, nicely decorated. The breakfast room was attractive also and the breakfast was delicious. We wished we could have stayed longer. It is a great location for touring Florence and all of Tuscany. A car is necessary however as the walk up the hill`is only for the very young.
