“Tranquil and charming”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 May 2011

The aperitif - foie gras and jurancon moelleux - taken in a peaceful warm garden with the Pyrenees in the background remains a favourite holiday moment. This small restaurant with rooms is spotlessly clean and decorated with imagination. The food is locally sourced, the menu is whatever's good in the market that day. Small but good selection of wines. We had a perfect stopover here in a lovely location.

Room Tip: Photos provided don't do them justice.

Nice place to stay, but I did not think it was a hotel with rooms when I booked it.

We did not eat there - we went to the bar with a terrace in the village view a nice view over the river.

The hotel was a little starchy and particuar (if you know what I mean).
The people were friendly but a little "straight backed".

We left one night early to go on our travels to Spain. But we still had to pay for the nights we were not staying - fair enough.

Sauvaterre - nice place but very little to choose from as far as eating and drinking goes.

Hotel was a good 15 minutes walk to the village centre and located next to a busy road - not very good for trying to read and chill out. Pool does not look like one to use.

Pot bellied pig - though - friendly and looks good enough to eat!

The converted Maison de Maitre is a hotel with about 9 rooms. The old road went right past the door which must have been horrible, but now it passes a little further away. It's only a country town, so not particularly noisy, but there is the odd bit of traffic and as their is no aircon if you are a light sleeper this might disturb in the summer.

Plenty of space to park, and it felt very secure.

The hosts are very pleasant and helpful, and the garden has a swimming pool and even a donkey. There were no children when we went, but it looked child friendly. The room was once large, but with a bathroom carved out of it, it is now adequate.

The stand out feature of this place is the cooking. We noticed that several local families had come to eat, which has to be a good sign, and the food, though limited in choice was really excellent and good value.

We were unable to make an early start since the baker does not deliver bread before 7:30. And rather indifferent it was too, but breakfast was fine and the coffee good.

Nearby Sauveterre de Bearn is delightful and worth a few hours wander.

We very much enjoyed our stay here. This little hotel is quite charming and cosy. The room is not big, it is however very nicely decorated and clean. There is a lovely garden and a pool. We had dinner at the hotel - the food was OK and you will love the setting. Highly recommend for couples who want a romantic getaway.

Sauveterre is quite a lovely little town to visit. It is about 10 - 15 min walk from the hotel. The view near the river is quite dreamy.
