“Not as bad as these reviews say!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 April 2014

Just returned back from a 3 day stay with my 10 family members including 2 under 3's and 3 7-10 year old kids! FIRSTLY the bad review are very harsh nothing like what we experienced!

After reading the awful reviews i was very dubius about staying at this site especially with the all shining stanwix just minutes away! However we were pleasent suprised on arriving at the park we were explained everything by reception including set pool times due to busy season booking and presented with a free bottle of wine!

The chalet - 8 man chalet with hot tub :) yes there were a
Few minor decor issues couple of cracks in paint and dodgey shower BUT it was clean spasious and the hot tub was amazing! Very pleased with this room 3 bedrooms a large living area with 3 sofas and table and a big kitchen what more could you need!? It did just what we needed for us all including a 3 month old baby! No quarms.

Touring pitch- mother n father stayed on here. No flooding spacious pitch however would advise asking to be away from the farm as theres a noises resident woodpecker!

Food- average pub food, service quick and friendly. All food hot and to standard. Fairly priced also.

Pool- as we stayed in easter pool times were in sessions which worked out brilliant! No fighting for changing rooms and no cramming in the pool. Very clean and 2 lifeguards on hand at all times. Only thing that was a downside there is no slide for kiddies.

Nightbar- very good size as i have a 3 year old was so easy to keep an eye on him. Kids stuff starts at 7 so no early 5:30 starts like some places! Entertainer was a bit of an attituded idiot but guess he was tired with a busy easter goood entertainment, comedians, kids games, bingo, music, karaoke what more do ppl want!? Two things i wasnt too impressed with there is no lift to this bar so carrying a buggy up to flights of stairs n down not the best! No bottle warming in bar or baby changing had to change my son in buggy or take out in the cold to the other food area!!

Shop- basic does not sell bread (slightly annoying)

The surrounding area is a lovely seaside town we ventured down the prom to the amusement fair and to a large carboot only 5 mins away brill for kids and adults too!

Overally was suprised after these harsh reviews lovely place lovely holiay and would not hesitate to return again!

Family holiday, 2adults and 2 young boys ( 3 & 5) lodge with hot tub! Sounds like luxury, yes the hot tub, no for accommodation. This was 80's decor flower curtains which let sunlight in from dawn, old square TV, stinky carpets with stains. Bedding was laundered clean but was on lumpy pillows with kids beds having springs sticking in your back whilst sleeping( I had to put a quilt on top of the bed to sleep comfortable for the last 2 nights) settee in lounge stinky too. Bathroom shower was great power but looked rubbish with lead up to wall. Cupboards stinky, did not want to put our clothes in. Overall we had a fab time whilst being in Silloth with local attractions ( as not much on during day for kids) went swimming in mornings and out for day, back for hot tub! Best part. Eve meal bar food, average for ok price. Eve entertainment great for kids till 9.30pm. Accommodation put us off, so won't be returning as it's cleaner in a stinky travelodge than a scummy chalet. A shame as people won't return to less luxury than their home!! Holiday is for comfort as well as luxury. Ask the big boss to sleep in beds and they will soon see why we are complaining! Would have been nice to promote this holiday village to others, ashamed to say I've been there!

Just got back from a family Easter break. My grown up children and grandchildren stayed in a Buttermere Chalet, while my wife and I stayed on the touring park. Everywhere was clean and bright, friendly staff and great entertainment for the Kids, who had a wonderful time. When they are happy we are. The Hot Tub for the grown up children was a bonus and was clean and regularly inspected, filled up etc by the park staff.

Food in the bar was good and big screen TV's if you wanted, or you can sit in the restaurant section if you prefer.

Cant fault the place and would definitely recommended it for any family's wanting a good family holiday. The walks and scenery along the coast are spectacular. All in All you can do a lot worse and with any Holiday it is what you make it, we all had a great time and would definitely go again!

We have just returned from a week at the Solway Holiday Village and like you, had read all the reviews before we went, so were apprehensive as to what we would find.

Well, there is no getting away from the fact that externally this place is run down and in desperate need of an update, especially the children's play park. However, the pool is warm and clean and the kids club was one of the best we've been to. Paul and Bex work really hard to include all the children and make them feel involved. The party games, dancing and prize bingo were a welcomed change from the larger holiday parks commercialised shows that seem purely based on merchandise revenue! Whilst we didn't stay beyond the children's evening entertainment the other holidaymakers that I spoke to said that the family and adult entertainment was also excellent.

We stayed in a three bedroomed Cumberland caravan. There was an issue with the first, in that the previous guests had obviously had a dog in it, and my daughter suffers from allergies. I wasn't too happy that a family without a pet had been placed in a pet friendly caravan but on reporting this to reception the following morning I was handed keys to both an alternative caravan and chalet to choose which accommodation we would like to change to. After looking at both we choose the caravan, purely because chalet offered was near to the main entrance and I have a wandering 3 year old! Lesson learned - after booking, always call to request a pet free accommodation!

Silloth itself is very quiet but perfect for a walk out to for an ice cream, play on the splash park or simply to admire the view. There are fantastically deserted beaches only a few minutes drive, north or south, with great rock pools and sandcastle building sand. There didn't look to many places to eat out which is why we ended up in the Nags Head one night, but whilst the bar itself is nice, the food was decidedly average. I would suggest maybe a drive into Wigton should you fancy a nice meal.

Basically, Solway Holiday Village has all the right ingredients for a great break away from it all. If you are the sort of person who needs everything to be aesthetically pleasing to have a good holiday - simply don't go, but if you appreciate friendly staff, good service and great kids entertainment day and night, then give it go. For the money, you can't go wrong.

After reading some of the reviews on here I was not expecting much. We wanted to go away for Easter in our touring van and this was only place with spaces we could find. We arrived early which was not a problem. We're told where pitches were and that the warden would help us select a pitch. When we got out of car to set up we realised the wheel bearing on our caravan had broke. The warden and other people on site were lovely and helped us as much as possible especially Barry the maintenance man who helped us get wheel off and try source a replacement. The reception staff were great too when we asked for help. We thankfully got it fixed and could enjoy the rest of our weekend. We enjoyed the swimming pool only thing is changing rooms are a bit dated but clean. The toilets and showers were clean. The entertainment for kids on night is good. We only went the once. Had a walk up the farm which kids loved. All in all a lovely weekend on a lovely site I would say give it a try and don't believe all bad reviews on here

Only booked three days prior to travelling for my husband myself and three year old granddaughter. Having read reviews was very nervous, but should not have been. Check in so quick and pleasant. Chalet very clean and well equipped for our needs. We do not do the site entertainment thing so can't comment. Spent lovely evenings walking along seafront and exploring the rocky beach in Silloth, which is a very quiet little seaside town. The farm area was also a bonus and our Granddaughter loved the deer, alpaca and especially the peacock who was displaying while we were there. There is lovely country side around and little seaside towns to explore. To those who complain that the bars expect children to be quiet, may I suggest beach walks, and maybe games reading etc are more suitable pastimes for kids. All in all a very pleasant experience.

Room Tip: We had Ullswater no 56,were worried it was too near bars but no problem with noise.

We booked up for the easter weekend at solway to go camping. Overall we had a great time after reading reviews we were expecting the worst. It does need sprucing up abit but it did not impact our stay. We had takeaway pizza from the nags head and breakfast in the mornings and we thought both were lovely. The staff were all lovely and very pleasant. The evening entertainment was ok and drink prices were reasonable. The farm needs some tlc but I liked it all the same. We would definitely come back to solway fantastic weekend
