You could never find a more friendly family than the proprietors of this establishment. Over the top service. We felt like one of the family in this small beautiful location. The restaurant is also great with excellent food and good service. We highly recommend. We will be back!

When you first see the Hotel, it has a very charming effect on you. You stand and look up to the hotel, and suddenly you can hear a peacock then chickens. Then you look again and see the lovely lemon tree's, it is just by far so tranquil and invites you to come in, sit down and relax. And its at that point that you say 'I am now on Holiday'

Then you are greeted by a very happy looking man who just says..... Welcome to my home, I am Kostas Vlachopoulos and I welcome you, because that is just what it is a very welcoming family home. You hear the laughter of the children, and never forget the peacock..... And as to the chickens, only one word to say to that - Paxo !!!!

The rooms are very clean and cosy, and what does take your breath away is the fantastic views from the room, the blue of the sea, and once more the wonderful picture perfect gardens. What more could you really want from a Holiday...

But wait so much more is still for you to find. You are advised the dinner is severed at The Boukari Beach Taverna which is also run by other members of the family, is a very nice stroll of about 10 minutes along the water edge, its just at that point that the romance in us - stir. Walking hand in hand along this quite road with my partner was worth far more then money. Oh this really is heaven on earth. Which at this point we both felt like 'youngsters' again...

The food at the Taverna is all freshly prepared by Kostas brother, the fish dishes really are something to die for, and then when you are seated the 'Papa' comes and takes your hand, a very proud Greek, full of greek charm, and yet a very simple man.

So if you do go there make sure you say a big Hello to the 'PAPA & MAMA' this truly is a family ran affair.. If you are not happy then they are not happy. And if you really do want that extra large Lobster for dinner, it is the 'PAPA' the will drive the island until he does find the perfect beast for you. Where as some people in the UK are hard pushed to find the salt pot for you... However, if you do order that perfect beast, don't forget to turn up to eat it..... Because that really is not BRITISH. Then you join the ranks of the lowest.............

I really could not fault Kostas, his wife in fact any of the Vlachopoulos family , they would do everything in there power to make sure that your stay at the hotel was as cosy & happy as possible.

If you needed anything, you just had to ask. Remembering that the family do run this business and are not mind readers, and if you have a problem or you want something special then all you had to do was ask.

I have stayed in 5* Hotels both in the UK and other fine places in this world and have paid the price and have not received this level of service & dedication. No matter what the weather was like, (I was staying just a bit before the start of the season, so lot of things were closed.)

Kostas also put on a special meal for the Easter Sunday and things were kept very welcoming from start to finish. Kostas is a fine gentlemen, and he indeed does have his concerns as to what is happening in his country, and being able to support his family. However, his greatest concern is his guests.

Kostas or his wife are more then happy to advise nice places to visit, good places to eat during the day. And after breakfast, which again is very simple, but very nice, (yes I know there were times that bacon & eggs would have gone down well!!) Kostas will ask if you would like anything special for your evening meal? or do you just want to do Greek....... Hay what's the old saying 'when in Rome' or in this case Boukari!!!

Kostas can arrange for car hire for you and indeed is also very happy to do that, in fact he is happy to arrange anything. Car to boat trips. And if you have booked direct with the hotel he does offer a collection/departure service. However, a car is needed to get around there is so much to see and the people of the Island are very friendly.

It is very easy to find your way around Corfu - well Corfu Town is a bit of a challenge when is comes to parking.... And does it really matter if you get lost a few times, its fun, and the people will laugh at you, and even some will ask if you want to stop for a coffee?? or even something a little stronger - OUZO - That's what being on Holiday is all about..

If you are driving around the island, the roads are very rough & uneven. And the pot holes... Well as I said before - when in......

However, the Penelope was a perfect place for a very relaxing recharge of the batteries type of place, just remember to stop a few times and smell the flowers.... It really is a peaceful, picture perfect and wonderful surroundings.
If you think that you are not able to walk either to the Taverna or in my case back (once again the OUZO) Kostas is more the willing to drive you from and too the hotel. No really, nothing is too much for him, he really cannot do enough for anyone.

This really is the perfect place for the little bit of magic............ Star dust included.....

Thank you Kostas for giving us a wonderful holiday xxxxx Steve & Jo

Would I go back? You bet........

Although out of season and the first time they opened before easter all seemed perfect, very helpful would pick up at airport etc.I'd researched before our holiday and only found one bad review...sadly the complaints held true, after initial welcoming and cant do enough for you attitude we all (most guests) felt that if we didn't spend enough in their perfectly nice restaurant, the hospitality diminished somewhat. Maybe in high season this isn't such an issue but considering they advertise a free airport shuttle,we had to spend 40 euros to corfu airport for our departure. The included breakfast is bread, jam, sometimes cheese and an egg with tea or coffee. I would recommend a car if not high season. In Petriti (30 mins walk) the Piaggio restaurant run by Nickos was a welcome retreat, very welcoming and accomodating and the briam was fabulous.

We stayed in the hotel and for sure the location is good but:
1) Although we stayed for a week and have been informed from a brochure that all rooms are with kitchen, we never got one.
2)We have booked our stay on half board basis but what a mess!!!!!!!!! the restaurant was 800 m away from the hotel. No body informed us at the time of booking that every time we have to eat we should walk 1600 m in total. I would like to mention that we travelled with our child 7 years old, so you understand what a nightmare we lived for 7 days. Also I would like to mention that there was a restaurant in the hotel but only for the breakfast
3) Since we understand very well the Greek language, all the time we heard the owners to talk about how much money each guest had spent. This is very very rude and definitely not proffesional attitude. It looks that we were just "EURO" and not human beinsg.
4)The breakfast was so poor that most of the guests brought extra items themselves like cheese, honey etc. This breakfast remind me 70's.
5)At the time of the arrival we were forced to pay for all our stay and we were treated like unwanted.
The people that run this hotel they have to go back to school to learn how to treat and behave their guests.
IIn conclusion we will never return to this hotel and of course we will inform our friends to avoid this hotel.
CORFU REMAIN ALLWAYS MARVELOUS AND DEFINITELY WE WILL VISIT THIS ISLAND SEVERAL TIMES IN FUTURE. THOSE 7 DAYS WOULD BE GRATE AND WE HOPE TO BE GRATE BUT UNFORTUNATELY we have made a big mistake by choosing the hotel.

We stayed at the Penelope for a couple of days whilst touring around Corfu doing a bit of walking. The south of the island is relatively unspoilt and Boukari Beach was a great choice. The coast actually gets even quieter if you walk further south past Petriti - our walking guide even called Kavliotis the 'time warp' village!

The Penelope is a good standard hotel - great value for 39 euros a night including breakfast. Quiet and peaceful with a balcony looking over the garden towards the sea. Breakfast was good with the germanic influence ensuring cold eggs, meat and cheese were provided. I wish sachets of Nescafe were not so ubiquitous though - I do love a proper cup of coffee in the morning.

We ate at the Boukari beach taverna, which was good apart from the worst taramosalata I have ever eaten. No taste of fish at all and an unbelievable pink. We are difficult to please with fish as we can buy wonderfully fresh fish all the time down here in Cornwall plus we have some great chefs like Rick Stein up the road. So I was amused to see the next door taverna putting up a new sign saying 'Best Fish in Europe'. Not even a 'probably' in there like Carlsberg.

We went to the Potamki taverna the second night and had a great meal - very authentic, just like mother cooked. OK I learned to cook at my Greek mother's knee. I also got to speak Greek all night, which I love. The restaurant was much emptier, which caused us to think that choosing restaurants on the basis of how many people are in them, is not so reliable in tourist areas with a continuously changing population.
