“What a holiday!”

What a fantastic 8 days myself, my husband and 2 children (12y & 9y) have just spent at Marine 1! Warmly welcomed by Christopher the owner, who showed us around and gave us lots of useful tips and introduced us to Sylvana, who came every morning (except sunday) for 3 hours to keep us tidy, cook if we wanted her to, and generally make our holiday special. The beach house apartment is beautiful, with air-con in the bedrooms, ensuring a comfortable night, and a shady integral outside eating and sitting area with views to die for! Much of the time we had the beach to ourselves...our our piece of paradise! We had superb weather, spending the days snorkelling out to the rocks in the lagoon, kayaking to the reef and other beaches for picnic spots, and falling off the stand-up paddle board (which we hired from SUP, with an additional double kayak and they delivered to the apartment). Sylvana welcomed us with roast chicken and then cooked on other days for a nominal fee, when we wished...making our children very happy!! We also had a delicious dinner one evening at the charming La Maison d'ete, 5 minutes down the road. We really have had a memorable holiday, and hope to return to this stunning spot on magnificent Mauritius.

“Wonderful beach-front apartment on the unspoiled east coast of Mauritius”

We had the most amazing week at this fantastic apartment in Roches Noires, on the unspoiled east coast of Mauritius.
The apartment is very comfortable and tastefully furnished with all mod-cons including air-con in the bedrooms, wifi, a huge TV with set-top box (mainly French channels), and a breakfast table with one of the best views in the world! In the evenings we opened the doors at the front and the windows at the back to get a breeze through the main living area which isn't air-conditioned, and this worked well albeit there are the inevitable mosquitoes.

The pictures don't really do the setting justice. You walk straight out from the apartment, across the grassy lawn directly on to a small secluded cove with a golden sandy beach. The local houses are all expensive holiday homes backing straight down on to the cove, so it wasn't at all busy. The cove is a safe shallow lagoon with incredibly warm water and the bottom is mainly covered in clumps of seaweed, so beach shoes are advised as it makes swimming more comfortable. We also took the kayaks out to a small rocky reef in the middle of the lagoon and snorkeled there (2 masks and 1 pair of flippers are provided but bring your own snorkels).
Sylvana the Housekeeper comes in every day to clean the apartment and she had cooked us a delicious roast chicken for our first evening meal as we arrived late. The gardener was also happy to cut a couple of coconuts for us from the trees in the gardens, so we drank the water straight from the shells, and ate the fresh flesh – heaven!
We had hired a car which is pretty essential out on the east coast, and it was an easy 15 min drive down to Flacq, the nearest (huge!) supermarket (Super U) with absolutely everything you can imagine, all at London prices!! There are also some great resorts nearby and we treated ourselves to lunch at The St Geran which was gorgeous.
All-in-all, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this corner of paradise.

“Beautiful”

We had a fantastic stay here. It is a beautiful, spacious apartment. We were there with our two young children and we had a great time. The beach right outside the door is one of the nicest we have experienced on the island - and it is just ideal, especially for bathing with small children. We also enjoyed the garden with two sun loungers and a barbecue area. Over the weekend a number of other residents were there and we watched their volleyball game and felt comfortable with the other real nice people around us. Nearby you can go shopping - there is a shopping center in Rivière du Rempart or you can take a stroll at Azuri, Roches Noires and go out there to eat. We have made some excursions from there (eg the Botanical Garden). A car is a must have here. We particularly liked the very tasteful interiors of Marine 1. The rooms are beautiful, just like on the pictures, and in the facilities we did not miss anything. The housekeeper was very friendly and really helpful. Also we met the owners in person, which was very pleasant. A big thank you to BeachHousesMauritius.com and the owners of Marine 1. We hope to be back soon!
