“Beautiful manor house”

Amazing small hotel, like stepping into a museum. Beautiful garden with incredible views of Porto da Cruz.
The house is in the mountains so for best comfort you’ll need a car, but you can also use the buses, although they are not very frequent.
You’ll need an adventurous spirit to fully appreciate this 300 plus year old house but if you’re into antiques, you will love it. Nice breakfast even for italians...

The location is perfect, as long as you have transport. Very tranquil but wonderful views out to the sea. The building is full of character and the suites huge and comfortable. We wish had stayed longer to soak in the atmosphere.

Stayed there a couple of nights in the beginning of summer. It’s quite an authentic house and exactly what I was looking for.
It seats on the top of the hill, overlooking the town and the surrounding mountains. It has the most breath taking view! Seating in the garden, either in the morning, or at night time, the only thing you hear is silence. Absolutely perfect to relax.
It is quite an old house, so there are a couple of things that aren’t up to today’s standards in terms of hotel comfort, but you would have to expect that from a recovered 1600’s manor house.
There is no car park, so you must park in the street, but that doesn’t turn out to be a problem because there is virtually no traffic, and it’s a wide street.
The only access to the house is thru a staircase that leads from the street. Can’t say it’s the most practical thing in the world, but then again it just adds to the authenticity, as you have to follow the same path people used to do 100, 200 years ago.
The lady who welcomes you at arrival is the same that makes breakfast and is as friendly as you can ask for. You get a continental breakfast, which is satisfactory, with local fruit, homemade jams and homemade cake. Delicious.
Overall the aspect that pleased me the most was the authenticity of the whole experience.
Would definitely recommend it if you’re looking for country side peace and quiet, genuine people, fresh homemade food and simplicity.

Inntravel was unable to book us into the Hotel Costa Linda in Porto da Cruz (it was full). Instead, we decided to book directly a room in the Quinta da Capella for two nights, as part of our Inn Travel holiday. It was a beautiful location, with great views - about five minutes by taxi from the centre of Porto da Cruz). The room on the ground floor was excellent - 2 four-poster beds. The Quinta da Capella was on the InnTravel walk (about halfway). so it was nice to walk down into Porto da Cruz to have lunch, and then in the afternoon to walk back. Taxis provided an excellent service (there are plenty on the island). However, breakfast was fairly basic (lots of bread). Overall it is recommended, and we would not hesitate to go back.

Room Tip: Suggest you take a mobile phone in case you need to call a taxi.
