A very new hotel but a very good one”

The 1st impressions of the hotel were very good with a very clean reception area and very polite staff with a welcoming manner. The key problem we encountered were the lifts as some were out of order most of the week although there are 6 in total so still plenty to use. The rooms are very clean with plenty of space and very nice decor. The room had a few problems but very small ones which however are normally required as a 5* hotel such as no tea and coffee making facilities and no 'do not disturb signs' which meant cleaners sometimes bang on your room door when you wish you could use one of these signs. One day our room didn't get cleaned either which was poor, Cleaners were very slow. The facilities within the hotel were brilliant 2 great swimming pools and also a slide pool with also a baby pool. One problem we did notice at the pool was that there were no life guards which was disappointing, although overall very good pool facilities. The private beach isn't realy sandy, its more of a stoney and sandy mix and very cold waters. We were very pleased with the hotel restaurant and its varieties of food with food to meet everybodies expectations from fish and local Turkish dishes to spaghetti. The A la carte fish restaurant was poor in general and needs alot of improving including its menu and its service was very slow while portions were poor, we had a fish with one new potato as our main while the dessert seemed like it had been taken out of the normal restaurant. We went on the Market excursion and it was very good with a stop at Apollo's temple which was very interesting however the product knowledge of our rep was poor as he told us to find our own way to the Temple as it was easiest even though the market excursion included a visit there so we ended up wasting time and seeing the same things twice. The local members of public in Yesilkent were very friendly and offer you help when finding buses to various locations. We would highly recommend this hotel/resort for couples, families and grandee customers.

We have just had a week here in the Venosa Beach and Spa, we thoroughly enjoyed our time here, every room over looks the sea and has a balcony, rooms are roomy and very contempory, very peiceful nights sleep good aircon, there are still a few teething problems as it has only been open three weeks, but things are improving all the time, the queues to check in are very long as there was only one attendent on duty when we arrived, so I would suggest one person collects luggage from the coach while someone else gets to check-in, what with the night flight and transfer, arrival time will be around 8:30am if you are with Sunwings so it's a long haul! there is a good variety of food, something for every one, no tea/coffee facilities in rooms, the hair dryers are of a low power so if you are used to 2000w I would take your own. There is a good magnifing mirror in bath/shower room, I wouldn't say the standards were 5* as the cleaners are inexperiened, the personal hygene of staff is not good (don't think they wear deodorant!) the entertainment isn't great but the staff try hard.
There is a market on Saturdays, a bus from the hotel entrance into Altinkum costs 3 lira for two and runs every 20 mins or you could walk if you are feeling fit, takes about an hour. If you need any dental work I can highly recommend Estetica in Altinkum, I popped in for an estimate for an implant and ended up with 7 new crowns (including one new implant) for £855, I was blown away with the price as I was quoted £2,000 for one implant in the UK, I am over the moon with the result and my husband and I will be returning for more treatment next year.
The Al la Carte resterents arn't really worth spending the extra 10 Euro for in my opinion.
The Turkish bath is worth a go at £40 gets you a the Turkish bath with massage and exfoliation, full body massage with oils and facial approx 2 hrs.

We have a villa in nearby Yesilkent and booked in for three days. Overall I would recommend the hotel, the food, the drinks, in fact all the facilities (although the steam room smelt dodgy). I have two gripes with the hotel the first being that the service and interaction with customers is not 5 star. It is often as bad as you get in the tourist bars in Altinkum, disrespectful, over familiar, jokey. One of the other reviews mentioned the Blue Restaurant in Yesilkent and I spoke to the owner and the head waiter there on our return suggesting that they go round to the Venosa get a contact and sort the service out! At other times staff would not do simple things that we asked for as that was not how they did things. An example is that both my wife and mother-in-law like the Liptons black label tea for breakfast. They have these teabags in the kitchens and using the hot water and hot milk in the machines it is possible to make yourself a nice cup of tea (very important at breakfast time). The machine however does a foul white tea. When we asked the restaurant manager for some teabags he wouldn't get us any because they had English Tea in the machine, we couldn't have teabags at breakfast time. Even when we told him the tea was horrible he wouldn't go and get us any. We got some off the poolside bar and used them both that morning and the other two mornings where we saw other people asking and similarly being refused teabags. The animation team and entertainments are more suitable for a 1960's holiday camp. I do not expect to be disturbed when I am sitting by the pool by a team of people asking me if I want to bounce a tennis ball into a cup or catch a stick before it hits the floor or buy tickets to play bingo that evening. I don't expect randomn members of the team to ask if they can join me and my family for a chat when I am sat down having a drink.

The second gripe was the so called A-la carte it was a garbage experience from start to finish the food simply being brought upstairs off the buffet. I like Turkish food and ate exclusively Turkish at the Venosa and would rate the food to be overall very good. When I've booked Italian a la carte however I do not expect to arrive at a table with Turkish appetisers followed up by a meal of lentil soup (Turkish) followed by Manti (Turkish) followed by Chicken on a kebab (Turkish). We left at the Manti course when we learnt that the vegetarian pasta my wife had asked for was the spaghetti napolitana off the buffet cart. Part of our problems stemmed from the booking part of the process when on Thursday morning when my father in law refused to fill in menu's for four people for a Saturday night meal. Watching the other diners in the restaurant it was obvious however that they were eating the same as we were.
The hotel was actually overall very good but is being drastically let down by some of the staff and some of the approaches with regards to customer service.

Stayed here 16th to 27th May . Weather was hot for first week then it rained until we left (ha ha to new arrivals - we got our tan !!) Hotel was well away from everywhere , with unreliable and always full minibuses : hello , get bus stops , more buses and proper timing info . Hotel was quite impressive and because they wanted to fill it in the first weeks of opening , we got a bargain - £389 pp for 11 nights '5' star AI !! . Seating in reception was for show - certainly not for comfort , which was annoying. Reception staff were useless - you DON'T stand around talking to each other when you have guests waiting , then not be able to speak enough English to answer most reasonable/basic queries. Piano bar cocktails were around £7 odd - far too expensive. Staff would rather wash glasses than serve a queue of people. The guy on guest relations was poor. Hotel lifts were a joke - new lifts but kept stalling or took ages to arrive. A la Carte restaurants were nice - Italian food was authentic and good , although a pain to book . Gym had NO LOOSE WEIGHTS - just naff machines - REALLY DISAPPOINTING . Photographer (Mustafa) was very good - get some photo's ! . Barber was great - he's just started weightraining and can't get supplements , so take him some creatine + whey protein and you'll be on a winner ! . Have a massage + treatments in the spa , they are great. Doctor can't speak English (recipe for disaster or what) , he's good but ex-pat Emma is his translator and is very helpful. All stuff in games room costs money. All toilets have NO air freshener machines , and third world practices of discarding faeces in open bins should be STOPPED in '5' star hotels that cater for mainly Europeans (English , Germans , French mostly , in my 5 visits all over Turkey) Animation team 4 out of 10 - Peter Andre lookalike compere was reasonably funny , but acts were not good , apart from traditional Turkish dancers. Kids water slides were not available all day , and staffing of the facility was poor and an accident is waiting to happen - sorry to spook anyone. Only one ice cream freezer and queues of people. Get another freezer ! . Pancake tent ? . English people like sugar/lemon , nutella , jam on their pancakes - not tuna !! . Coffee machine reasonable. Hot choc - v. nice. Efes beer - good . Food - very fresh , but as usual needs MORE CHOICES more often. And replace items eaten by first diners - not everyone wants to be first to go for brekkie/dinner . Chambermaid had bad B.O but was happy and welcoming (go to Boots and a 99p deodorant would sort the problem - not rocket science ! ) . Restaurant staff were annoying : "can I take" was the best English they could muster when clearing the table , and BEWARE - don't leave food or drink while getting other things because they will clear your table - SO annoying : leave a cardigan or something ON the table . "Enjoy your meal" was another annoying phrase they've adopted - but they always say it AFTER they have cleared your plates ! . WHO IS TEACHING THESE PEOPLE ? . They desperately need a bi-lingual , talented , European trained guest manager. Or two ! . Could go on and on but I don't want to annoy people any more with my criticisms , especially as its gonna have teething problems being a new hotel , and the price was great. I would go back if my points were rectified , but I have other places to visit before that. Bon Voyage

Arrived 9th May... lots of initial teething issue... cases were left unattended for 2 1/2 hours by bell boy and we ended up getting them ourselves... arrived at 10 pm and it was 230am when we got an extra pillow, our safe and tv remote fixed ! A couple checking in at the same time as us were shown to two rooms where there were couples already asleep in their beds.
The room was adequate the view was stunning over the pool, beach and out to sea.

Clearly the staff need to get up to speed... the only phrase they knew was.. can i take ?

The food was awful in the restaurant snack bar and a-la-carte, almost all the "hot" food was cold, burgers chicken pasta and all the main restaurant food.

If you check in at 10.30 pm be aware that if you are held up at reception and then order 2 beers at the bar at bang on 11 it will cost you 23 turkish lira.

|There were 2 staff members in staff relations, the man insisted to us he was just a russian interpreter, the lady was lovely ! x

We arrived less than 24 hours after it officially opened and were apprehensive as to what state we would find the place, especially as we had had to wait for over an hour in the airport car park for our transfer bus.
The bell boys and reception looked surprised to see us (a medium sized bus load of tired tourists) and took over an hour to hand over keys, not a great start, but things did get better....
The impression we got was that the staff all looked like rabbits in headlights and took a few days to get into work mode; with the exception of the entertainment staff - who were hyper but not very effective at informing guests of daily activities program or indeed entertaining; restaurant staff who after a slow start, were over keen to remove plates and glasses, often before you had finished (we just had to go and get some more, if there was no queue, and food still available); and the housekeeping - who were amazingly bad at actually cleaning or stocking up the room!
The maid would arrive any any time during the day, then wait outside if you said come back later, then forget to give us towels, sheets, toiletries, water or even to make the bed and clean the room!
The rooms were adequate; the two single beds (we asked for double) were firm but very comfy; TV too small and uncomfortable to watch, except from the single chair, and was limited to news channels in English; waste bin arrived after 11 days; balcony small but downside was they were used as the smoking area, and several had birds nests.
BUT the view was amazing! All the rooms overlooked the large pool and face the sea (except those on end with larger balconies who could still see sea), with different views around the bay and mountains in the background. The pool had loverly lighting which changed colours, but the PA system was far too loud, and blasted out noise (sorry music) from 10am til midnight.
The air con did not work, and the rooms got very hot during the night so by 6am we were desperate for some fresh air, be warned the sun reflects very strongly off the water (sea and pool) and "blinds" you when you open the balcony doors.
We found that asking guest relations for assistance or advice was futile, unless they wanted to speak to you. Simple requests like asking about the a la carte restaurant, or where the TV room remote's were, met with dismissive shrugs and indifference. Other guests proved a more reliable source of reference!
The management were trying very hard to get the place finished and often there were workmen around until midnight. New things were arriving daily and continuous improvements being made. Not impressed with the noise in the corridors and room - from staff chatting, items being delivered, unwrapped etc day and night. And the sound proofing could have been better as there seemed to be a herd of elephants in the room above us (workmen laying carpets and building furniture), and we could hear all the toilet habits and conversations of the rooms around us. So maybe the TV volume being louder could be a double edged sword.
The manager was nervous when he saw me with a camera taking photos, and spent the rest of the stay refusing to make eye contact. So customer relations is not one of his strong points.
WIFI intermittent but good until too many users tried to access.
The mini bus into town is easy to catch from outside gates. Altinkum is the main resort, and Didim is the town (market day is Saturday - stay focused, lots of pickpockets around!). cost 1.5tl per person each way, pay driver or lad during trip. Cost is 1.75tl to go to temple or marina. (If in doubt ask for beach or shops and they will drop you off) On way back look for bus with Yesilkent on bonnet. Change money in town - jewellers offer a good rate, watch ATM's as they charge big commission fees and have had problems in the past with card details being cloned!

Overall the Hotel looks amazing and will be great when it's finished! But only if they keep up the maintenance and repair. The workmen were still finishing; drilling, hammering, moving the beach into place but noise and dust did not spoil the holiday.
The weather was unseasonally bad, but the area it known for being windy and often gets rain when Altinkum does not, hence it's name - Yesilkent - green town. So take plenty to keep you occupied in the evenings! The sea can be rough to, so be aware if you book boat trips, and take some sea sickness tablets with you.
White is not a good idea for sun bed mattresses or sofa's in lobby, and some guests had no idea how to behave in hotel. Check your lobby seat is not wet after some inconsiderate person had sat there in a wet bathing costume!
Seating limited in evening in lobby, and not much to do if you don't like the entertainment or cold windy evenings. The restaurant was a free for all, with staff just standing around watching the guests, who had obviously never seen food before in their lives (and must have eaten enough for the next year), attack, demolish, devour the latest offerings. Which to be frank were no different to the previous meal! After 2 weeks the food was predictable and boring, with the exception of the "3 mins" eggs at breakfast which were either raw or rock hard.
The coffee machine dispensing mediocre Turkish coffee broke down at every meal, but the wine was good.
Sounds like a lot of moaning but only niggles nothing too serious, but I believe we got VFM and would go again, with ear plugs and my own DVD player!

Room Tip: The rooms are fairly standard, balconies differ.
