“Great holiday/hotel but food poor”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 August 2014

We stayed from last week of July for 2 weeks. We had a really great time at the hotel but would not rate it as a 5 star. Its the first time we have taken our 3 children to all inclusive and would be reluctant again because of the food in main restaurant.

Check in at 3am was quick with luggage delivered within 10 mins. We had a room for 5 but found there was not enough storage space although the room was of good size and decorated well. Comfy beds and aircon if needed. The room was cleaned really well daily with nice bedding arrangements in the first week. The room fridge was not cold enough for our daughters medicine but the rep arranged for it to be stored in the lobby bar. Our room was on the 4th floor and all rooms have great views. Not much noise except from Ents team during day and bass music you can hear in the shower!

The pool and area is lovely and kept very clean. There are plenty of beds and a few shaded areas. The first week we could get beds at 8.30am but by the 2nd week we needed to set the alarm for 7am for a spot we wanted. The music around the pool at times was too loud and the bass volume was way too loud. The round pool away from the entertainment area was quieter. The beach is lovely and very quiet. Lots of beds and shade with self dispensing drink machines. Its a shingle beach but lovely clear water for snorkelling. We did the 'sofa' watersports twice. 1st time great fun with the older driver. 2nd time very scary with the younger one even though asked him him not to go too fast!

Food in the main restaurant was very repetitive and most dishes tasted the same. I find it difficult to understand reviews saying how good it was. There were theme nights but still everything tasted the same and the meat and fish so overcooked we found much inedible. Breakfast was good for omelettes and fried eggs and queues were fine. No bacon etc but lots of salad if you enjoy that first thing! Lunch in main restaurant much the same as dinner. The pool bar/restaurant had fried chicken, chicken kebab, nuggets, pasta and burgers so was fine for a change and quick lunch. The waffle/pancake hut was great (12-3pm). The kids went most days here. Ice-cream only available 3-5pm with long queues and often ran out of chocolate so left vanilla and strawberry. We went to the fish restaurant on the beach which is a lovely setting. The food was better here and you get waited on well. The Mexican was fine. Huge portions but not really authentic.

The local wine was good. You could get most spirits including local amaretto and cocktails on tap. Drinks in beach and pool bar til 12. Lobby bar til 2. Nightclub not sure as didn't try.

The other downfall we found at Venosa was activities for the children. There was a kids club great for little ones but ours at 8,9 and 12 felt themselves too old. There were many arranged activities for adults during the day such as volleyball, darts, football, water polo. The slides are good fun. The Entertainment team were around chatting to guests on sunbeds during the day but felt more could of been done for older kids and teenagers. You will come away with the Venosa 'Theme Tune' etched on your mind as performed twice a day around the pool. The evening entertainment got a bit boring. The shows that involved guests were the best and beach party good fun. The singers at pool bar were good every evening.

The location of the hotel is lovely but not close to the town if fancy a change of scene or meal out. The town is rather run down.

Staff overall at the hotel were good. There was a girl in restaurant outside that was not willing. We came across Burok Bayram - a barman who was by far the best. He loved the kids, spoke great English and went well out of his way to make sure we were having a good time and loved a joke. He found us tables and looked out for us every day. Hakon Gelile in the restaurant was the most attentive waiter out of all. He also found us tables and brought drinks without asking. Another barman is the smiling Emrah Hayir. Lovely guy. We also visited the Doctor who spoke good English. There was an English Nurse and Paramedic that worked there so we felt comfortable explaining problem.

Firstchoice Rep Clare was very professional. We booked a few trips through her. She really knows her stuff and helped us out with a few problems.

Definitely worth having a photo shoot. We did and very cheap. 'Dave' the photographer was great. Spoke really good English and was good fun. Photos were amazing.

The shop is well stocked from snacks to toiletries, inflatables to socks!

Overall it is a great hotel, very clean and modern with lots of plus points. Unfortunately for us the food let it down so we wouldn't return but equally there are many other places we want to visit.

Room Tip: Wifi hit and miss. Better in reception when husband needed to work. All rooms good.

This amazing place surpassed all expectations. The facilities were absolutely superb and the overall ambiance and cleanliness is second to none. The food was varied and plentiful and although the hotel was extremely busy, the food and beer never ran out and was always replenished. The attention to detail that the Chef's provide is also exceptional. The Animation team which is led by Cemil and his superb deputy Mario is fantastic, the whole team never stop and appear to be working16 hours plus every day. Nothing is to much trouble for them and they clearly enjoy their work providing great fun and a wide variety of superb entertainment to suit all age and nationality. Our daughter chose to go to the mini kids club during the 2nd week and loved it so much she insisted on going back every morning! We like to visit different countries and hotels and rarely go back to the same place twice - the Venosa will be the exception as we will definitely be returning to this outstanding resort.

Room Tip: All rooms are sea facing and comfortable, try and get a room on the lower floors as the lifts can be...

Me, my partner and 3 kids (aged 19,15 & 9) stayed here 31st July - 7th Aug. The transfer is 1.5 hours which is just a bit too far. The weather was up to 38deg most days. The hotel itself is lovely, really big and the rooms were well equipped and spacious. It was our first time going all inclusive so we were quite impressed. The food in the main restaurant was all really nice and hot and there was something for everyone. Although sometimes there was a lack of hot veg, if you like cold sprouts/carrots you were fine! The waiters were very quick at taking your plates away, sometimes even before you'd finished! The snack bar was ok but at certain times the tables needed clearing and it was a bit manic. The kids enjoyed chocolate pancakes from the pancake tent.
On the first day my 19 year old daughter fainted whilst queuing for a drink. The staff were really good, took her to the medical room and thoroughly checked her over. Luckily she was ok.
The pool was huge and nice and clean and the kids enjoyed the slides. Something needs to be done about reserving sun loungers! It was a nightmare, i had to wake up before 7am to put towels on our loungers or there was no way we would've got any. Something I hate doing. Sitting under the speakers is not recommended as the music is sooo loud! The poolside entertainment was a bit repetitive, aqua aerobics and water polo. There wasn't anything for the younger kids at all. My 9 year old daughter had a go at archery and also darts. The darts was a complete farce!
Overall the hotel is really nice but I'm glad we only stayed a week, it began to get boring. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere so not much to do. We went on a Dolmus 3 times into Altinkum, for about 80p! In Altinkum the turkish men were very creepy towards my daughters, with my youngest feeling a bit scared at times. There's lots of bargains to be had but sometimes the shop owners pester you too much. We took the kids to the fairground which was ok but a bit chaotic!
1 thing to definitely avoid in the hotel is the Al a carte restaurant. It was quite possibly the worst food I've ever had. The menu was rubbish! We were told to pick a main meal and dessert. They brought us all the starters without even asking. Carpaccio of veal, a cold chicken/tomato thing and Caesar salad with a minging fishy dressing! We did our best to eat it but the kids hated it. The main meals and desserts were pretty bad too. The waiter was also really miserable.
Me and my eldest 2 daughters went for a Turkish bath, highly recommended. Cost £20 and well worth it. Billy and Fat Boy were both really helpful. We also went on a banana boat, the sonar and a jetski, all reasonably priced. Ozzy from the watersports was a nice man too. Mario's aqua aerobics was a good laugh.
Overall we had a nice relaxing holiday but because of the location we won't be returning.

I stayed at the Venosa with my mum and 4 year old son for a week with First Choice. The flight was excellent, but we were not prepared for a 2 hour coach journey with the driver stopping multiple times for a cigarette break! Highly unprofessional and annoying when you've been travelling since 3 am!

First impressions of the hotel, the rep was there to greet us and check us in. Bell boys took our luggage up for us and showed me how to use the AC and the safe, which was very helpful! The fridge had a bottle of water in it... but the fridge was just a lit up cupboard as it didn't keep anything cold! We were on the 3rd floor and the view was amazing. Looking over the sea and the mountains. All the rooms face that way.

Pool facilities were very good, however the slides were a bit too fast for my 4 year old which was disappointing as he really wanted to go on them. They could possibly build a smaller one for the younger children. Beds... well, if you are not there by 7.30am latest be prepared to have a bed in the direct sunlight all day or not at all! We had to set alarms to ensure we got a bed in the shade for my son, not something you want to do on a holiday! The music around the pool was.... different. Very loud however and sometimes playing songs with mild swearing or sexual references.... not appropriate for children. The animation team work very hard, and try to deliver a range if activities for people who want to get involved and they aren't pushy about it.

The beach is gorgeous but the sand is a shell/sand mix to not comfortable on the feet. The sea is lovely and warm and we got a sunbed there a little later in the day. Much more relaxed vibe.

Food wise - it's what to be expected from an all inclusive Al a carte I guess... quite repetitive however they did try to have a different main meat every night. We saw roast turkey, roast chicken, salt baked tuna and kebab. We tried the Italian out a little later in the week as my son loves Italian food. We weren't expecting massively authentic Italian, and a good job really. We got brought out all the starters on the menu - which were vile. My main meal of pizza was hard and bland. My mum and son had pasta in a tomato sauce... which was full of olives, extremely garlicky with a hint of tomato. Wasn't overly impressed waiting 2 hours for food either. The kids buffet was a nice idea, but served the same food for them every night - burger, chips, spaghetti bolognese. You also have to pay n extra 6 turkish lira a cup for freshly squeezed orange juice which I think is a bit of a cheek! The waffle house by the volleyball court is yummy though! Overall, we have had better all inclusive food at other hotels.

The evenings had a show put on after the kids mini disco at 9. My son loved that and all the dancing. The best shows we saw were the Bollywood night and the Turkish night. The rest were a bit boring and we went to bed early. Drinks wise - there is not a lot to choose from unless you want to pay extra for it. Their beer is nice and cocktails are ok, but if you fancied something else it wad hard to find something. Usually you can get a local alternative for our named brands but not here.

The Venosa is a hotel with a lot of potential. It is a huge complex and could be a great hotel. I probably wouldn't go back but I don't go back to the same hotels generally anyway.

We stayed at this hotel in Jul/Aug 2014 through First Choice. The transfer was quite long (about one and a half hours) but nothing you can do about that, and we were the first drop off and on our return we were the last to be picked up so no big delays.
Check in was fast and cases were taken to room while we were invited to go for a drink or something to eat. When we went to the room we found we had what must be one of the biggest balconies in the hotel (Room 1631b) and a decent sized room as well. Air Conditioning, room safe, fridge (with water), TV, tea & coffee making facilities, toiletries and hairdryer are in room.
Beds are comfortable enough. Sofa bed wasn't initially made up for daughter but this was soon rectified.
Good variety of food available throughout the day. Breakfast, lunch and dinner in main restaurant (definitely something for everyone - but if you do get a bit tired of the same surrounding every night, then catch the dolmus to Altinkum and try the restaurants there for a change) Also snacks (chips, jacket potatoes, nuggets, chicken kebab meat, spaghetti, burgers, salad, grilled turkey and more), pancakes, waffles and ice creams available around the pool area. Drinks are available around the many bars and the lobby bar serves 24 hours a day.
A la Carte offers fish, Turkish, Italian or Mexican (one free for each week of your stay). We had Italian and Mexican - wasn't too fussed about Italian but Mexican was a lot better and the waiters try hard to give you a good service.
Pools are brilliant with one huge main pool (split into 2 sections) a pool for the 3 water slides and a kids pool. Hotel has its own beach and the sea was lovely and warm.
Beach towels are supplied by hotel and can be changed daily if required.
The race to put out towels in a morning seemed to get earlier as the holiday went on, but I hardly ever failed to get somewhere I was happy with. I would say usually I would have towels out by 7.30am at the latest but this is a great time to get breakfast as there aren't many people about, so well worth getting up.
The view from our room was brilliant with a 300 degree view of the entire area. If you can get a room on the end of the hotel from floor 6 up then get it.
Not a lot to do outside of the hotel but you can get a dolmus (No.4) every 10 minutes or so right outside the hotel for 2 lira each that will take you to Altinkum.
Entertainment during the day is very good with a variety of activities organised by the animation team. Water polo, beach volleyball, archery, darts, aqua aerobics, and different pool based events. Water sports are available from the beach and Ozzy will regularly be around to try to tempt you. Also look out for Fat Boy who sells Spa services - Turkish Bath is the minimum you should be trying on your first day but do yourself a favour and have a massage of some description as well. So relaxing I almost fell asleep during mine.
Evening entertainment was 1/2 hours kids disco at 9pm with same kids songs every night and then a main show each night, again, organised by animation team. We saw a couple but really weren't that impressed. Around the pool bar on most evenings there were guitar players including an English guy called Alan who mainly played the same songs each night but did try to expand his repertoire if you requested something he didn't know... "thank you, thank yooouuu!"
There are shops on site - a supermarket (with English papers), a jewellers, a gift shop, a barbers, an estate agent?, and there is also a nightclub from about 11.30 although I didn't go in.
The lifts are a bit hit and miss in terms of the amount of time it can take to get one but generally I found then to be OK. It depends what time you are trying to use them.
The hotel is relatively new (about 3 years old) and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone.

Room Tip: Room on end of hotels gives huge balconies from floor 6 up
