Myself , hubby and 3 children aged 11,9 and 5 stayed at the Venosa for 1 week in August. We arrived early hours and first impressions were impressive. We were on the 9th floor which had truly amazing views. Our family room was lovely , clean and a good size. Maid visited us everyday and brought us a fresh bottle of water. We are a fairly easy going family as long as things are clean and kids are happy then so are we.
We were introduced fairly early on to Fatboy who is a friendly easy going chap who is happy to help with any question you might have. Fatboy is part of the Spa team who goes round offering you and telling you about the spa treatments they have to offer. He is certainly not pushy and I was happy to book one as I had planned this before I arrived. I booked the Turkish Bath and a full Anti stress massage which was truly lovely. They looked after me very well and was a good start to my holiday.
I was very clued up on this hotel having read many reviews and can never understand why people put that they couldn't believe it was hour and half transfer and it is not in the centre of Altinkum ......do people not read up on their holidays before they go as we knew all this before so was very aware. However just outside the hotel you can catch the little bus for 2TL per person for an 8 min journey to where the shops and Altinkum beach is. We visited this once in our stay which was nice and easy to do. Do not book if you like to be in the centre of everything , we loved the fact we were away from everything so suited us. Hotel has everything we needed from pool, spa, slides , beach, water sports , food and alcohol and wall to wall sunshine.
Food was good and puddings were even more tantalising. Relax and try different things we certainly did. Yes the kids food needed a little bit more imagination but for a week it was fine. We didn't try the a la carte but friends we met tried the Mexican and said it was lovely.
Food was always on offer you will not go hungry , chips, burgers, jacket potatoes, chicken , turkey , lamb , beef, omelettes , waffles , soups, cheeses, bread, croissants , spaghetti pasta , pitta, meatballs, plus many more dishes. I loved having a Ameretto and coke tastes like Dr pepper so was very enjoyable. They do a nice Ben 10 cocktail non alcoholic of course which my 9 year old enjoyed. Hubby liked the beer so all good.
We did have to pop the towels down early as seems like everyone was doing this as if you like certain areas of the pool. We liked to be by the slides as my boys aged 11 and 9 must have gone down these over 200 times. Me and my little girl aged 5 did the green one together which she loved. They are good fun adults too loved them. The lifeguard there called Tuna (sp) was a nice young man he respected us and complimented us on our boys for behaving and listening , as many children do not pay attention to the rules on the slides as he has to be strict due to safty ie only one on a slide at one time.
The beach is lovely and yes a bit shingley but we knew this before unlike other reviews that were surprised. It's fine though kids and swim shoes and was not a problem fish swimming around your feet how lovely is that. Beach is private and clean , ideal for us as hubby hates sand and sun cream together so was easy to go to and easy to leave and return to the pool. Music by the pool is loud but didn't affect us and was enjoyable .... Tip don't sit near the speakers if you don't like it
Yes the lifts are very busy and yes sometimes you have to have a little patience but your on holiday so there's no rush , take the stairs if you are 1st 2nd 3rd floor I would but lots didn't. We even took the stairs and we were in the 9th floor and yes that was like a workout especially going up.
The staff work very hard especially the waiters we interacted with them and kids were trying to learn Turkish which they loved.
There is also a professional photo shoot there which we booked to have an half hour session with again was my choice as I wanted a family photo of all us 5 and one of my children altogether. Well this was absolutely amazing and the photos were awesome so we got an awesome album and the disk to be able to get bigger prints later at our leisure. The staff there were very professional and is a lovely keepsake of a truly fabulous holiday.
Transfer home was a bit naughty as the driver stopped after 25 mins and said we can have a break however this was not really for us but was for him so he could have his dinner. Not impressed as the hanging around in the heat made my boy nauseous and he was sick. Apparently it's the norm in Turkey for drivers to stop however we were not impressed.
Not the hotels fault at all and was the only blimp of a truly wonderful family holiday. We certainly had a super time and we would return . Definitely recommend for families , entertainment is ok but we made our own with some other English families we met.
One other thing is some of the other nationalities are so so rude pushing in queues ie waiting for waffles or the lift they just stroll in front. Has made me realise how polite and well mannered us English are just rise above it ..... Shame really but again not the hotels fault !!
