Club Tarhan Beach Hotel
Ranked #13 of 79 Hotels in Didim
Reviewed 23 May 2012

I came back from the Club Tarhan Hotel yesterday. Upon arrival, the first impressions aren't good as you turn into an old, grubby street that says Club Tarhan above it. This is not the actual resort as you turn right to face the real entrance which looks amazing. The lobby is the first place you enter to check in. The lobby is amazing, I will upload some pictures for you to view. The grounds of the resort are well looked after and very pretty. During our time there they were still replenishing the hotel, re-painting here and there, gardening and we even saw the exterminator go round each room to banish the bugs!

The pools are lovely, they over look the sea. The beach is quite nice too, although it is a handmade beach and the sand is very rubbley so we didn't spend much time here. The water sports were non existent, but i think this is due to the fact that we came early season.

The apartments are very basic, but they are very clean and the maid comes everyday. (who spends all day in their room anyway).

The animation team are AMAZING and they really made our holiday such a laugh! They play games during the day that you can join, such as archery, darts, water sports (in the pool) which my boyfriend enjoyed.. (I much prefer to read a book and sunbath :p)

Altinkum is around a 40min trip on the bus which pulls up right outside the resort. DO NOT make the mistake we made of getting a taxi because it is a complete rip off (41Lira) it is 2LIRA on the bus and it takes you anywhere you want to go and you get to see the town and the area during the trip.
I would advise you to have a walk around the big market on a Saturday, altough the Turks are very annoying pulling you into each shop and shouting at you when you dont want to buy!

Overall i recommend the resort, it is a lovely place and they are improving it every day. The people who stay at the resort range from ages of 18 - 88, mostly couples of small families, I wouldn't advise it for anyone who wants the party and nightlife.
The only downside (for us) was the food, and mostly because they couldn't keep it warm! Other than this we have no complaints at all! enjoy :) xxx

p.s get the Turkish bath in the hotel, it is amazing :)

Room Tip: There is no room service, or we weren't told there was. Get a room away from the pool are as you...

Very quiet last week which suited us. Loads of sunbeds to choose from any time of the day. In fact our last day the 20th May they changed all the beige sunbed covers to brand new thicker upmarket blue striped ones. The Animation team had their work cutout but always were cheerful and chatty. Food average with over keen waiters eyeing your plates like a hawk to whip them away as soon as you've finished your last mouthful. Nice setting on the beach with all amenities close by. About a 20 min trip into Altinkum on a dolmus for 2 lira is a bargain. Altinkum prom still being updated much to the annoyance of the local traders who are losing a fortune with the reduction in tourists this year. We booked a twin room but were given a double. They changed it to a twin without any hassle.

Room Tip: Some lovely sea view rooms available. Our room 316 had a sea and pool view. Could be noisy though la...

Just returned from a holiday in the Club Tarhan. My friend and i came to this hotel last year and it was horrible. We got a really good deal so thought we would try it again. We have loads of friends in Altinkum so thought if its poor we can spend our time in Resort.
We arrived at approx 8pm, We were well pleased, Reception very professional and an easy check in. Room was much the same but had a new flat screen tv. The who placed looked like a tone of money had been spent on it. We arrived for food at at 20.55 with a little panic as the restaurant closed at 21:00. There was not a great deal left but the chief brought out fresh for us and even put some fresh fish on the grill and cooked it for us.
All inclusive package has been upgraded bottles of water in fridges . You just help your self and Yes they are Free.
Staff where great, New Management are really great and working very hard to make sure you have a good Holiday.
The Travelite rep was really nice and booked diving and boat trip had a great time. Prices same as town and we got picked up from hotel :-)
We never really left resort other than that as the days and nights passed so lovely. The holiday was just what i needed and i would defiantly recommend it. Sunbeds everywhere, even new fancy gazebo style area.
If i had to find a fault with the hotel i would not be able to do it, Maybe the only bad point was that my holiday had to end.

My wife and I have just returned from this resort today. We went to the hotel for a 7 day break and decided that this hotel based on the pictures and the blurb written on the agency website was deeming it a good choice. Advertised as a 5 star all inclusive - this is not quite the case. Also confirmed on our last day by a Thomas Cook rep who our group got talking to said that they are classed as a 3 star that has just recently been upgraded to a 4 star.

Day one - We turned up around 5AM , check in was nice and straight forward, rooms already allocated and the receptionist was welcoming. We felt the room was of a good standard although we did find out that all the keys to the rooms fit each others locks.. so tip one.. get a safe! in our group we tried out keys in each others locks and found they all work in every lock!
Air con is free of charge in the room and most rooms have a really nice balcony. House keeping each day but you have to ask for your "mini Bar" to be restocked everyday at an extra charge!

First thing we would say is that the resort, as in the grounds, flowerbeds and trees, are all in excellent condition and look great however there are major problems with the mechanics of the resort around the services, staff and worst of all the food...

We went to the breakfast that was meant to be served at 7AM.. we sat there waiting for the "chefs" to get they’re act together and bring out the food.. the choice of food was terrible and this became the trend for every meal of the day. We attempted to eat scrambled egg then found it was half raw and cold ( as in egg whites and yolk runny then half cooked.. You could see this was where they had not stirred up the tray of scrambled egg in the kitchens as it cooked.

I asked for Ketchup and was told "No- finished" and a wave of the hands by a "chef" then turned his back on me. .. this was the first meal of the day and meant to be all inclusive.

Lunch and dinner were "ok" nothing exciting.. the kind of food you get every day there is definitely unappetising.. things like recycled from the day before chips, cold and tasteless, chicken burgers that were cut in half and cold .. (sometimes they were fresh and they were ok then), dry spaghetti with no sauce ..just a tomato soup on a vat nearby. Deserts were good.. I cant say they were not.. No problems there.

The rest of the holiday we had to complain multiple times about the lack of selection of food.. often other guests were also being vocal in the restaurant at they’re dismay of the food standards.

The hotel bars are mostly staffed by very young "students who don’t understand English" according to the senior management there.. most staff speak ZERO English.. this is not something we judge a hotel on.. it is a foreign country and we understand not everyone speaks English however it is a nightmare to order a drink or ask for something mundane like a box of matches. You will have to ask staff several times for items to get them right.. sign language helps a lot in Turkey generally anyway because they communicate with body language alot (gestures etc).

I had several bad stomach terms and was physically sick two days on the trot from day one which seemed to clear up after 3 days there. To be fair I think it was down to drinking on an empty stomach and the change of climate and food types.

There were certain staff there that simply didn’t care about the guests, service or the fact we were there paying for all inclusive.. One excellent member of staff is a guy who goes by the name "Oscar" his real name I cannot remember. He is the Guest relations Manager, he tried his best to help us and the other guests who were not happy, he dealt with things on the spot and always checked on us, asked how we are and best of all, he smiled! something other staff need to learn there.. I think If the hotel had the same drive and attack on service as Oscar the resort would be a much more better place.. and possibly would encourage people to return.

Often we were told that things had "Finished" with no further explanation at all. The brand name drinks were a joke.. They kept telling everyone at the bars that the brand name drinks had run out yet they blatantly had them there on display or hidden in cupboards behind the bar. We also had an occasion were we witnessed staff behind the bar pouring the cheap local vodka into a Smirnoff Bottle !

I had Green mould on my pizza one afternoon - this was not from a plate or from the cooking pan as the head chef tried to convince me.. You could see the difference between the black char-grill marks ( fine) and the GREEN mould in-bedded within the dough.. totally disgusting.. I made them cook another pizza with me standing in the kitchen and it had nothing on it.. ( even though they used the SAME cooking tray as the previous pizza)

Facilities wise.. Im still not sure what to say.. things like the swim up pool bar were shut the whole holiday --all the restaurants on site were shut or even worse, the "BBQ Bar Restaurant" had been knocked down and didn’t exist! There was a "Cocca Cola Burger Bar" being built on our stay but was not ready for us to use.. will probably be ruining by the time this review is up on here though.

Water sports was one of the main reasons we booked this hotel.. the pier was destroyed and decrepit, the jetty/walkway a serious health and safety issue, falling apart and locked up with rusty old padlock.. there were ZERO water sports.. everything closed.

Animation team were totally brilliant and to be honest made us enjoy the holiday .. if it were not for them.. I think we would of probably got straight back on the plane to the UK after day 1!

There were some shows we saw by the Animation team, which were awesome. The “Ampitheatre” was open only once which is a shame because it looked amazing inside.

There was a Turkish bar open one night that has sisha pipes ( or whatever they are called ) but this was charged extra @ 10 Turkish Lira per person.

Orange juice is charged for extra at the resort too like the mini bar.

The Spa and Free Turkish bar was really nice looking although we never actually used it in the end..

There is a "Shopping Mall2 which actually consists of two shops lol.. one is a general goods store.. really good but very pricey on cigs.. go to the top of the road and visit the shop there for that outside the hotel instead. the other shop is a barbers and beauty shop.. I was really gutted because I wanted a traditional Turkish shave with the Cut throat razor but forgot to go to it.. very good reviews from others in the group though and they do hair colouring, nails as well as men’s shaving etc. reasonable priced.

Our top Three tips ( read :-) ) are...

1- Get a safe - rooms are not secure

2- Eat at Anadolu Restaurant - this is located outside the hotel grounds.. at the top of the entrance driveway into the hotel to the left on the big main road - we ate here several times.. amazing food , amazing service, good English food too and incredibly cheap ( we paid only 60 Turkish Lira for a massive 3 course banquet for two..With 5 drinks!) The owner is lovely and REALLY CARES about his clients..couldn’t ask for more.. ( Tel: 0256 825 56 55)

3- When you go to Altinkum Market for your Prada bags and Police Sunglasses haggle loads.. we got two pairs of imitation sunglasses, two watches for 45 Pounds ( worth around 2 K if was real goods in the UK ) One of the best shops to go to is the "Jesus Watch Shop" ( info@thejesuswatchshop.com Tel: 0532 297 00 63)

The summary is... Dont expect anything amazing as far as service and fgood goes..infact expect the bare minimum and you wont be dissapointed.. The rooms and sun/beach and hotel generally are good though. A hotel that could be amazing let down by lack of care and communication.

Room Tip: Go for a sea view room and Hire a safe

This resort is lovely and well worth a try. I must admit when I first pulled up in front of the resort, I wondered what I'd let myself in for, but upon entering I felt assured that it would be a great holiday. The rooms were a good size and were cleaned every morning. The resort itself is directly on the beach, which when I went, had a lot of kelp on the shore but there was a digger there every morning trying to clear it. Altinkum is about a 10 min dolmus ride away, the dolmus only costs 2 TL, and can be caught at the top of the road, so well worth a trip out. Altinkum beach front is beautiful, it has many more restraunts to chose from, and is lively at night time, especially around Dophin square. The restaurant across the road from the resort called Anadolu is fab and wortha try too. Their Turkish curry is gorgeous. There are plenty or swimming pools and the resort is laid out well (accomodation is away from the noisiest parts etc). The staff could not do enough, and were very pleasant. There's a dedicated customer relations team who were happy to help and they actively sought feedback to make the stay more plesant. There is also a dedicated animation team who will entertain all guests, they are all very enthusiastic and friendly. There is a spa on site and I paid for a Turkish bath and massage. This was excellent and well worth a try. There's no pushy sales people so don't be feared of being roped into spending money you don't want to. The food could have catered for British tastes more, but considering you're in Turkey, it was OK. I suggested the above and food labels as a possible improvment. Overall, I really rate the resort and would recommend it to anyone.

hotel was extremely clean and rooms cleaned everyday, entertained was varied and something for everyone. Enough swimming pools to cater for everyone. The animation team were amazing kept the children entertained and also very friendly. In fact all the staff are very friendly nothing was too much trouble for them.
Food was a little hit and miss but have to admit if you asked for something they would do their best to assist you.

Word of advice the airport is a rip off 30 euros for a beef burger , chips and drink no bigger than a happy meal.
