“ok for very very quiet holiday”
Reviewed 5 August 2011

we were booked half board attempted to eat 3 evening meals then ate out. food was very greasy, chips every night cooked in old oil, very greasy and tasted awful, veg was tinned served cold, turkey breast fried in breadcrumbs served twice in 3 nights. pasta starter dishes were served burnt, dried out and cheap beef used so very grease. The lovely salad consisted of lettuce, tomatoe and tinned sweetcorn!!!
Breakfast was ok, exact same every morning.
Rooms ok, basic, free A/C, linnen and towels not changed unless piled on the floor. Pillows badly need new ones, chopped foam filling.
pool area was very good & clean.
reception staff very helpfull, bar/waiters miserable.
very little to do in area, bus service a joke at the moment, waiting for up to hour and half for bus in v hot temperatures, inquired about taxi to beach 3km away 16 eauros one way.
I would not go back to this hotel due to location, improved bus service is a must for a stay here, and book room only or B/B.

We found hotel a little too basic, the staff in main building were really helpful and friendly but in bar area a less enthusiastic attitude I feel, with not real effort in the breakfast department or the lunch which we tried once. Clean towels each day, sheets not changed but beds made (2 single pushed together). Bed not very comfortable. Balconey had 2 chairs which needed washed and the curtain on balconey door. The shower was ok not much power. I had not checked reviews for this hotel as we were booked into another hotel so I would like review to be helpful for anyone considering this hotel. We walked a lot and took buses to other areas as not much to do in area only walk or lay on rocky beach or watch the boats and life on the harbour. Yes beautiful view across the bay and anyone who is after a quiet time it would be ok. The busy main road is a short walk away with a mini-market and a few resturants along the street which we tried, the chinese (red/black building was great). The greek resturant Zeus was excellent. The resturant/bar Lords was great too where you could have a late drink and relax before going back to hotel as their bar closed around 10pm.

I arrived at this hotel full of trepidation due to the reviews, although many of them were quite old. This not a 5 star hotel and you always get what you pay for in life therefore it is fair to say that this the hotel provides exceptional value. The most outstanding aspect of this hotel is the location, which is ideal if you want a quiet, relaxing holiday with stunning views. If you want to shop, dance and be a party animal go to Bugibba or Slimena.

There are two bus routes (11 and 41) which pass very close to the hotel to allow for travel to Valetta and the rest of the island, but the new bus service in Malta is having a very difficult time. This caused a lots of problems for locals and tourists due to delays and overcrowded buses. This hotel's location is not suited to people with mobility problems as there is an uphill walk of some 400 meters to the closest bus stop. Taxis are expensive i.e. 12 Euros to Bugibba or St Pauls. I dread to think what the cost would be to Valetta. There appears to be an alternative "red bus" service developing with a fare of between 1.5 and 2 Euros per trip.

The biggest drawback with the hotel is the breakfast which, whilst being adequate, is very repetitive. However, do not let this deter you from booking half-board as the evening meals were excellent. Lots of local ingredients were used, cooked by top chefs and there were a huge variety of dishes offered over the two weeks that we stayed. Each evening there was a choice of two starters and two mains. Do not let this put you off as the food is very well cooked and generally excellent ingredients were used. Please remember that you are visiting a Mediterranean country and expect local cuisine not what you would normally eat at home. In addition, the chef prepared two special dishes for me and was always willing to discus the menu options. The bar prices are excellent value; as are the prices of wine to have with dinner. In addition to the ubiquitous Cisk they also have Blue Label and Hopleaf available for beer drinkers. We had some excellent evenings drinking and watching the sunset from the terrace after dinner. A sublime experience.

The rooms are basic, but adequate, and contain a very efficient air conditioning system. The showers are good. The rooms are cleaned every day and towels are also changed every day.

The reception staff are excellent and did everything that that they could to make our stay as happy as possible. They were great ar organising trips or taxis for guests. There are charges made for safety deposit boxes, kettles and fridges. We did not hire kettle or fridge, but friends who did hire a kettle found it expensive. If you are staying two weeks it may be cheaper to buy a kettle locally and then throw it away. There are no hair-driers in the rooms so if this is an essential aspect of your holiday take your own. On the positive side the plugs in Malta are the same as those in the UK.

The pool is excellent; mildly salted and very clean. The pool area was kept clean and the water quality was tested every evening. There are plenty of loungers available. Although there is often a shortage on a Sunday when local residents, who have purchased day or season tickets, visit the hotel. We found Sunday afternoon a good time to explore the local area.

If you are mature, but not decrepit, and have a cosmopolitan attitude then you may really enjoy this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a seaview room Rooms 101, 201, 301 and 401 are best

Think the hotel has been given unfair reviews - This is a basic, inexpensive friendly family run hotel in stunning and peaceful location - though main road close by!. Ideal for couples, families and single travellers. Staff friendly and very helpful. Evening menu varied every evening and food great - but breakfast very basic and could be varied for minimal cost eg different cereals/jams/maybe some yoghurt or fruit some mornings. Sea views are fab from restaurant terrace and the room we had with a sea view worth the extra cost. Lovely pool area - perfect to relax and unwind. Downside is hotel has no lounge area with bar for the evening but the hotel has an unused games room which could easily be converted. Rooms are basic with aircon/shower clean towels daily and twin beds and plenty wardrobe storage space - perfect! If you want a 4 star/5 star hotel in a location like this obviousy you would pay a lot more so please dont expect 4/5 star.

Room Tip: Pay the extra cost for sea view - it is worth it.
