“Expensive dining”
Reviewed 2 September 2009

We enjoyed the luxury of the hotel and the large swimming pool area with plenty of loungers; the staff, and indeed Maltese people in general, were very helpful and friendly. However we found the dining possibilities to be complex and expensive. The only reasonably priced venue in the hotel was the (beautifully located, outside by a fountain) pasta/pizza place which had a very limited menu for repeated use. Otherwise, the 4 course table d’hôte dinner was, at €30, too much food in a hot climate and too expensive. The only nearby external restaurant, the Mellita, had gone down hill badly compared with previous experience, albeit many years ago, and now has large TV screens, caged animals and children running around.

even if the hotel is a little aged, our room was really comfortable and charming, expecially the bed was really perfect. the breakfast gave a lot of choice of delicious food, but we havent' been satisfait by the restaurant we tried. the pizza was too heavy (the crust), the bbq the the swimming pool restaurant wasn't nothing special. about the spa: we liked very much the litlle relaxing garden near the sauna and the steam room.

The location of this Hotel was perfect for our day trips aroudn teh isalnd. For others it might be a bit quiet. It has an old charm about it, a little dusty but mostly fabulous staff . The General Manager is always around and keeps in tuch with guests, even aroudn teh pool.

The outside pool is very nice and the sun beds comfortable. We were upgraded to a Junior Suite so very lucky with the accomodation, have not seen a standard room. The breakfast buffet is ok but tyeh service unfortunatley not very friendly (old scholl) but this is really the only negative point I have. Food quality generally is very good in all the oulets.

Prices around the pool are high, dont be surprised.

The shuttle service at night into St Julians is brilliant as it safes you expensive taxis.

Just got back aftera 10 night stay in the Corinthia Palace. We stayed Half Board and would recommend this to others as for about an extra £20 per night (total for all 3 of us) we ate most nights in the rather smart Corinthia Restaurant where the standard of food, service and atmosphere was generally exceptional. The meals would have cost 90 Euros + drinks without the Half Board decision.. We ate at the Rickshaw once and this was good (despite a previous posting on this site stating to the contrary) although the HB guests are only allowed around 12 Euro discount - so be prepared for some extra expense if you want a proper meal. We also ate at the Pizza place which also has the 12 Euro rule (as not formally owned by the Hotel chain I suppose). The Pizza was VERY dissappointing and we provided some constructiove criticism to the staff on this. I would suggest crossing the road and using the swish Cafe, Wine Bar, Pizza place adjacent to the San Anton Gardens themselves. The mini bar and drinks prices in general are expensive - so a sneaky trip to the large Off licence 2 minutes drive away (towards Valetta on small road) is suggested if a tipple in your room takes your fancy :-).. Breakfast is a good spread but waiting for a pot of coffee/tea/hot water can be very hit and miss and very annoying in a so called 5 star hotel. We ordered breakfast by room service (under 5 euro service charge) and the result was Magnificent - hot freshly cooked food and drink - maybe we ticked too many boxes as what we received could have fed a platoon. Location is very good if you dont mind not being where the nightlife is. We always get a hire car anyway and with this place being smack in the centre of Malta exploration was a doddle (strange local driving idiosyncracies notwithstanding). I would certainly consider staying here again if returning to Malta.

Our fourth holiday in three years and we were not dissapointed again. We love Corinthia Palace for the quietness, friendliness and facilities. We can relax as soon as we arrive (it's like going home).
The upgrade has been successful and those who complain about the rooms must have got one of the last remaining rooms to be done up.
We do half board so don't have to search for places to eat at night and can relax in the lounge or bar afterwards.
All the staff are great.
I would recommend to anyone, and invariably do.
Roll on next year.

The hotel faces Presidential Palace and San Anton Botanical Gardens,

President’s daughter, Maria,s wedding reception was held at this hotel while we stayed here it was nice to see ladies dressed up in real diamonds hav,t seen that in my life.if it is good enough for the president it,s good enough for me !

It was a lovely hotel, very clean and tidy,
All new bathroom fittings with an excellent power shower and towels and robes to match.

the spa is a bit over priced even for a 5*. indoor pool is nice we spented a lot of tim in there we met lots of friendly maltaese poeple ,

all the pool side staff where very nice, the service was very good from the general manager to the maids.

now the bad point we are all vegetarian and at this hotel there is not much to chioce from there was only about 3 things we could hav 1 at the Corinthia room , 2 at the Rickshaw. we could eat at the pizzeria which was outside the only problem was there were cats drifting around your tables which was,t nice when your eating.

Returned for our sencond visit to the Corinthia in Attard, and noticed that the rooms have now been refurbished sinse our last trip in June 08. Good improvement and staff were again great. This time we had breakfast included and enjoyed it most of the time. It would be nice to have the option of having breakfast outside, if thats possible. I know they have a terrace restaurant?
We stayed for 4 nights (long wkend) and enjoyed our time. Used the local bus stop at the top of the road to go to Valletta one night. only cost 1 euro. Missed the last bus back to Attard, so had to get a cab (20 euros)
Malta is great ans the staff and locals are fantastic, and made us feel welcome.
Well located in centre of the island. Perhaps a car would be needed for the more adventurous, or just use the great bus service
