“Another great stay”

It's rare for us to return to the same place twice, but having decided last year that Ta Rena was hard to beat, we rebooked for this year, hoping we hadn't idealised the place too much. We needn't have worried - it was as good as we remembered, if not better. This year the owner Jules, manager of Jules Gozo Holidays, has added new furnishings, including a big new sofa, smart table and chairs on the upper terrace and improvements to the master bedroom - it's better than it looks in the photos here. The air con system is now in all three bedrooms and the lounge area, which was a blessing during the heatwave. Like most on Gozo, it is operated by coins so how much you use is up to you. To have the air con running all night in all three bedrooms was about 5 euros, but well worth it when temperatures hit 40 as they did this summer. The house is now under an agency for day to day running so this might explain why they no longer do the welcome and why you don't find other people's pool toys etc lurking. On the plus side, the agency keep the house spotless and they returned mid way through the stay to change all towels (lovely bg fluffy ones) and linen. They also pop round to check all is well, and pick up the eco tax from you (50 cents per adult per night). When you book through Jules, you get the added benefit of her man on the ground Peter Pisani. He adds another layer of service, arranging meet and greet taxi from Malta airport then a small hire car on Gozo (the streets are narrow so don't get a big car just for the luggage from the airport). This year he impressed us again - our flight was early. Peter had arranged for the driver to take us to the hire car shop where he was waiting to meet us. With the car sorted, we drove together to the house and Peter arranged an early check in - perfect
The house is perfectly well stocked for a self catering holiday but we missed the beach umbrella (which was in the house last year). Within a few hours of calling Peter, the agency had dropped off a new beach umbrella.
Aside from the excellent level of service, Ta Rena has a lot going for it - very well kept, full of character, west facing with stunning views of the sunset every night, situated on a quiet road within a 10-15 minute walk of Nadur's main square and some lovely restaurants (D'Victoria, formerly Anothony's, and The Fat Rabbit, but also Rabokk for cheap tasty pizzas), a buzzy little wine bar and a ridiculously cheap cafe for morning coffee and sinful pastizzi. Nadur is a charming place and one of the best places to stay on the island in terms of location and character - easy to get to pretty much everywhere. Marsalforn, where our dive school was based, was 15 min drive. Hondoq and Dar il qorrot are less than 10 - great spots for snorkelling and jumping off rocks. In the evening Hondoq buzzes with locals setting up BBQs and the beach cafe is great value for burgers (3.50 euros) or a decent bowl of spag bol (4.50).
We would very much recommend Ta Rena and Jules for a great holiday. If you need a different place, check out her website - julesgozoholidays.com for other ideas on Gozo.

“Loved it”

We visited Ta Rena in October, booking direct through the owner.
Everything went exactly as arranged, Peter was ready and waiting for us and could not have been more helpful during our stay and the car he had arranged for us was there 30 mins after our arrival.
Ta Rena is quite simply lovely, the whole family agreed that it is the nicest property we have stayed in and we have stayed in a fair few. The kids loved there bedrooms, couldn't get them out of the beautiful pool and as for the rocking chair it was the cause of many an argument a s to whose go it is next.
I could go on and on about the property but I will take all day, it was stunning and with a lot of new furnishings in to keep it updated.
The village is lovely just a 10 min walk from the centre.
All in all a great little trip and we plan on returning next year.
P.S. The owner is very helpful with great fast communication. Thank you.

“Beautiful villa, Fantastic Island”
Reviewed 28 September 2016 for a stay in August 2016

We visited Ta'Rena in August this year with my 2 children aged 14 and 9 and my father. The villa had everything and more that you could want. Peter is always on hand to assist with anything you may want or need, nothing is too much trouble. The pool and BBQ area were spacious and had an adequate number of loungers plus table and chairs with another set upstairs on the top balcony. The bedrooms were big and included big wardrobes, spare bedding/duvets if required I am assuming for the colder months, hairdryers etc. The maid service and Pool man visit weekly. The kitchen had everything you could want including things like tin foil and cling film!
You may want to have a car to get around but the bus service is cheap and reliable with a stop at the end of the road.
Gozo is a beautiful island, The beaches are clean, the people friendly and welcoming, infact as a holiday maker you easily become immersed with the local's everyday way of life; The food great and good value for money. We as a family Love Gozo and would highly recommend Ta' Rena as a place to stay. We cannot wait to go back.

“Fantastic Villa”
Reviewed 12 September 2016 for a stay in August 2016

I cannot recommend Jules Holidays & this beautiful villa enough! As soon as you walk in you have the Wow! factor. The entrance is just lovely. You have 2 bedrooms and a bathroom on the ground floor & then you go upstairs to the living and dining room area, kitchen and the master bedroom with ensuite as well as another bathroom for all to use. You then go up another flight of stairs for the huge utility area & through to the sundeck. The swimming pool is through the living area, out the double doors and you have a nice big space for the pool, BBQ & outside eating area. The bedrooms are all a great size and comfortable. You also have all the utensils and pots & pans you need in the kitchen.
We also found swimming pool toys in the garage downstairs for our children to play with....e.g. big rubber rings, buckets, etc.
There are plenty of things to see & do in Gozo and there are lots of leaflets and information available within the villa for you.
Nothing is too much trouble for Jules and her team, anything you need sorting, they will do for you. Her 'agent on the ground' so to speak is Peter Pisani who will do everything possible to make sure your stay is a fantastic one!
I honestly can't recommend this gorgeous villa enough, at the end of our 2 week break we didn't want to leave and are already looking forward to coming back next year!!

“Brilliant house and service”
Reviewed 4 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

I spend a lot of time looking for the ideal holiday and was particularly pleased with this one, on several levels. The owner, Jules, also owns a holiday company that specializes in self catering holidays to Gozo (julesgozoholiays.com). Together with her local agent, Peter Pisani, they make a winning team.
I chatted with Jules at length before booking about what we needed. She listened carefully and didn't try to sell us something we didn't want (not all houses on Gozo have air con in every bedroom, for example, and not all have decent wifi - sadly a must, for our teens anyway).
We went through the options and ended up renting a house Jules owns rather than one she manages, but she has plenty of options to choose from. Once booked, local agent Peter took over and arranged a seamless meet and greet service from the airport to the villa where he was waiting to greet us. He had also arranged for the hire car to be delivered to the villa. Gozo is full of narrow streets and small parking spaces so you don't need a big car. We travel with lots of kit so would have needed a large car from the airport to manage our luggage had we rented one ourselves. Peter provided a great service and just what we needed - nowhere is more than a 20 minute drive so you really don't need a big car once there. No waiting in a queue at the rental desk of a stuffy airport, they came to us. Perfect. When we gave the car back on the last day, they were very happy to extend the pick up time by a few hours for no charge. Lovely.
We arrived at Ta Rena about 6 pm and by the time we'd signed the paperwork for the car, we were thinking we'd need to trek to the shops for basics. But Peter had filled the fridge with everything needed for the first night, including a bottle of wine, coke for the kids, water, bread milk and jam - a perfect welcome pack free of charge. Instead of the usual paltry dregs of fairy liquid and half a piece of loo roll, everything was well stocked. They may be small sums of money in the scheme of things, but they are details that make a difference. We had one or two initial small gripes thanks to an inconsiderate previous guest and minor plumbing jobs etc, but Peter responded immediately and problems were quickly resolved. None of the faceless couldn't-care-less of some larger companies. It is this personal touch which is so valuable and helps make any issues minor rather than major. We felt they really did care about us as customers.
The house itself was lovely. Difficult to go back to bland, modern rental properties after a traditional stone-built farmhouse like this one which was full of character. I wont list the amenities since others and the website have done this, but would point again to the extra touches - the house had two sun umbrellas which were really useful in the July heat. Towels and bed linen were changed during the stay (if longer than a week) and were high-quality fluffy ones reminiscent of a good hotel. There is loads of space on the upper floor for ironing should you need to, a decent washing machine and several washing lines - boring but important if you have an active family with wetsuits to dry etc.
In our view, air con in all the bedrooms in the summer months is a must and again , the system worked very well and was not some clunky old box in the corner.
The west-facing views on the upper terrace were sublime, pool well maintained etc etc. I agree with a previous reviewer that the photos don't do it justice. It was even better than we were expecting and that's rare in these days of hype and photoshop. All three bathrooms were lovely with good showers and there's even a bath in one for the cooler months. Well-equipped kitchen, full size fridge-freezer, everything you need.
Gozo is not for everyone - if you like lots of sand, or Magaluf-style nightlife don't come here. I'm not sure I would go without a rental car in the hotter months either, although the bus stop is very close. But that's because we tend to be very active and want to see everywhere, and we did feel that the end crept up too quickly and we didn't spend enough time chilling in the lovely house. If you're not so active, it's a lovely place to stay put.
If you like snorkeling and diving, beautiful serene views, friendly bars and restaurants offering excellent value and service, oodles of history and charm, then Gozo and Ta Rena are very hard to beat in Europe. Nadur itself is a great location to base yourself, especially with a car.
While we loved this house, I would guess that any of the others in the Jules and Peter portfolio would be excellent too, They clearly care a great deal about what they do. Perhaps the biggest compliment we can give them is that my husband never goes back twice to the same destination, but he is already talking about rebooking for next year - so don't beat us to it!

Management Response
10 Aug 2016
Wow, How can I follow this as a reply? First of all, we are delighted you had such a great experience of Gozo and of course, Ta Rena. Happy customer holiday's are what we exist for and always, the best reward when you come back to tell us! And everyone else. Your review has special consideration to others who may be considering a holiday on Gozo for the first time. I would agree with all of your advice to others. I think highlighting the attention to detail is particularly helpful. For us, it is the small things that are as important and contribute significantly to overall experience. These details matter at Jules Gozo Holidays and why we love advising customers of the holiday best suited to their needs. We hope to encourage many others to holiday on Gozo for the first time. And even better, I love your husbands plan to return again. We look forward to planning your families next adventure on Gozo. Many thanks for a great review. Much appreciated. JULES

“Ta Rena was like a home away from home ...”
Reviewed 12 September 2015 for a stay in August 2015

I fell in love with Ta Rena as soon as i saw it on Tripadvisor .Julia the owner is ever so nice and so was Peter who was there to greet us and take us to the farmhouse .The photos although they are good ones they do not do it justice its even better when you are there, nicely furnished ,very clean,a nice food pack awaited us and I was very pleased with the well equipped kitchen as I love to cook...found all I needed and more . I went with my husband, son and my mother and we practically stayed in the pool terrace almost all the time...had breakfast ,lunch and dinner there enjoying the breath taking views especially the sunsets, refreshing ourselves in the pool ...there is also a bbq .There is a farm down the road that sells fresh goats' cheese and eggs and there is also a baker and the shops are quite near ,if one asks the neighbors are friendly and will gladly show and tell you where to find them. It was a lovely family holiday with memories to cherish ....

“Without hesitation an A+”

Ta Rena is a beautifully renovated farmhouse house which oozes character and has many endearing features. The entrance is very grand with high ceilings, limestone walls, and midway there are a few steps leading into the ground floor of the house. Here there is a bathroom and two bedrooms. Both bedrooms have air conditioning. A staircase leads to the first floor which is also the main living area. Here there is a bedroom with an on-suite bathroom, a third bathroom, and a lounge/dining area with a kitchen which we found spacious, comfortable, and homely. Outside is the swimming pool. The pool is a fine size for a refreshing dip. There is also a BBQ and sun-loungers. Although the outside area is fairly compact, as it is part of the construction of the building, we appreciated it as part of the charm of vacationing in a former farmhouse. For a larger outside area I think we would need to find a more remote location. On the top floor there a utility area with a washing machine and an outside terrace. The whole house is well equipped with mod-cons.

Regarding location, Ta Rena is situated very conveniently off the main road into Nadur. It faces a very picturesque valley and behind that views of neighbouring villages all of which you can see from the first floor living area and top floor terrace.

I made the booking through Julia who is the owner. My initial contact was not for Ta Rena although she suggested it after reading my requirements. Ta Rena was ideal so I booked. Julia was very responsive during the booking process including ordering a side board for a bed for our toddler, a cot for our baby, 2 children’s high chairs, and leaving some toys for them in the living room cupboards. 2 months before we arrived, Peter Pisani, who is Julia’s local agent, contacted me to make arrangements for our arrival, such as our airport pickup and car reservation. Peter was also very responsive to all my questions. He met us at the house on our arrival and was very welcoming. He even arranged for a welcome-pack of food provisions to start us off. He was available throughout our stay to answer questions.

Overall, we really liked Ta Rena and with its homely comforts it was wonderful to return to after trips around the island. We also really enjoyed visiting Gozo. It’s a thumbs up from us for Ta Rena and Gozo.
