“When one trusts pictures....”
Reviewed 29 July 2011

When one trusts pictures they get lured to places like the Kirikayan Luxury Pool Villas and Spa. As part of the holiday We decided to give the hotel a chance because of the features offered by the hotel. Don't get me wrong - the fact that one has a 110m2 apartment with 3 balconies and a rooftop terrace with a jaccuzi is marvelous! BUT the downside of such spacious places is their maintenance. Lots of features around the apartment felt worn down - the lobby of the hotel is non existent - it's a tiny ground floor room where one doesnt even have the option to sit in front of the receptionist upon check in. The complex feels abandoned because of all those spacious apartments. However the views are wonderful - overlooking the island jungle with one not the largest pool slightly raised to give a view of the hills. The rooftop terrace suites are a nice way to get a tan in the privacy of your own huge flat - but well.... there's no charisma and waiting for the clean up service takes forever - not to mention ANY item or request made by the guest. I wanted my breath to be taken away by this one... it was cheap and spacious - that's pretty much what i have to say.. The so called "Fitness center" is a few sqm of space that smells with mold and probably one would get asthma attacks by inhaling the air...

4 nights in June on our Honeymoon.
Standard room. Huge! Lounge, Dining Area, Kitchen, Bedroom, Bathroom and even a welcome area with table. 3 air conditioning units should give some idea of size!
Staff were attentive throughout, and sorted cheap car hire for us, boats to Log Phangan, always checking if things were ok. Food was good, pricier than outside, but not much, and was good enough to justify it. Fresh breakfast and juices made to order was a pleasure. Drinks a bit pricey, but we got some for the fridge from outside and had those by the pool. We found it common for drinks to be pricey in a country where you need them. Odd thing to try and bump up on as most seemed to not bother either here or at other hotels.
The bathroom. Spa bath, but water was brown, and you had to stand in it to shower - I'm not fussy, but that is dangerous, and not even possible for some given the BIG step in. Odd layout. Also the windows are only mesh, so you will share your shower and toilet with mosquitoes and red ants, which I didn't like, especially in the night.
Transfer pick up to and from was included, and done perfectly, even giving us an extra hour in the room when going for the ferry.
Great location up the hill among the trees. Great staff. Amazing rooms.
Brilliant start to our Honeymoon. Thank you.

We cannot recommend Kirikayan villas at Mae Nam highly enough. It was one of the best places we have ever stayed. We loved the area too.
Our one-bedroom villa was HUGE (more than 500 square metres including grounds) and beautiful to look at. The private pool was delightful, with comfy sunbeds and garden furniture. The villa’s gardens were beautiful and well-cared-for (though the sun-starved rear and side areas could maybe do with a good covering of river stones or something). There was a covered pavilion with a massage/slumber bed and fish in the moat around it. Lovely tiled surfaces. The place was wonderfully clean. The furniture was comfortable, practical and generously proportioned. There were plenty of power outlets in convenient locations (this is something many hotels lack). There were numerous entry doors, great for if someone is sleeping and you need to access the bathroom, outdoor shower, and toilet zones without disturbing them. There was also a very handy extra ensuite bathroom off the kitchen area.
The main pool up next to the main hotel building has a view to the jungle hills and there’s a pool table for 20 baht a game.
WiFi was fast and worked well. The staff really were wonderful, and the food in the restaurant was very good. They even encourage you to adapt your own Thai dishes as you see fit. They let me customise my breakfast to my liking (go the pancakes with soft fried eggs and maple syrup, something I never get to have at home in Australia), and we changed a few things around on the Thai dinner menu.
There’s a library with loads of DVDs to borrow, plus airport novels galore. Reception can organise motorbike hire if you want it, and there are several free shuttle services a day into Chaweng. In the back of an open-aired ute. Love it.
Just a few tiny quibbles: The bed was huge and comfortable but needs bedside tables and reading lights. Living area needs better task lighting. There was a DVD player in the living room but not the bedroom. They should put cordless telephones in, instead of the single one in the bedroom attached to the wall. It’s such a huge villa.
But these “negative” comments are very minor things. I can’t speak for the hotel rooms, but our villa was fabulous. The staff were amazing – some of the best I have encountered anywhere. (Thank you especially to Mae and Nok.) Any time we looked a bit weary they offered to take us to our villa in a buggy. Next time we are in Koh Samui, we’ll be back.

We came during low season and got upgraded to the honeymoon suite. It's so beautiful you'll want to stay in your room all day. Two buildings - one with your dining and living room; the other has your bedroom, sitting room, jacuzzi room and huge bathroom/closet. Private pool outside and outdoor sitting/massage area. Hotel staff are great, builings are a little old and mould is common (due to the humidity). Only downside is b/c there are so many outdoor spaces, you'll have a few encounters with frogs and geckos. ~10min shuttle rides (free) to and from Chaweng for shopping and cheap food (US$5 t-shirts, US$3-5 fried rice as a guide). Mae Nam beach itself is about a 15 min walk from the hotel but not as nice a beach as Chaweng or worth the hike.

If you don't mind smaller units anymore tourists, they have a branch on Chaweng beach as well.

The first time I met enough expensive hotel with big lack of quality in service. The hotel offers breakfast with fistful of dishes which you don't want to eat due to their look and taste. When we were doing check-out the hotel's stuff told me to give back already used slippers or pay for them, I was really suprised, cause I've never faced such low level of facilities and relation to guests. Come back,? never.

This accomodation was good value for money. Our 1 bedroom apartment was huge and ideal for 2 adults and 1 child (make sure that you book an extra bed). All apartments and penthouse suites overlook the lovely infinity style pool with views of the tropical rain forest. If you can cope without a beach on the doorstep this could be an ideal hotel for you. There is a complimentary shuttle bus service to the sister hotel in Chaweng Beach about 20 mins drive away. This service also stops at Bo Phut (Fishermans Village) if you ask. You can use this on an evening to enjoy the various restaurants and bars with a return bus that saves the cost of taxi's. This facility is essential as the hotel is a little off the beaten track.
Breakfast was cook to order and had a reasonable selection to cater for both European and Asian tastes. The staff in the restaurant where very friendly and paid special attention to our son. We stayed for 10 nights and had a very relaxing holiday and would consider returning as it was a very relaxing environment.
The staff where all pleasant however a number of staff had limited english which made communication at times interesting. However other staff were always found to assist us. Tip: before travelling contact the hotel via e-mail and book the complimentary airport transfer service. Overall good hotel and value for money.

I stayed in this hotel in a 2 bedroomed pool villa, with my boyfriend. When we arrived we were greeted with lovely flower bracelets and a drink. We were brought to our villa and we found no faults with it., It was very spacious and clean and everything was lovely. We got breakfast brought to us and prepared out on our table every morning providing we put in an order the night before (there are forms you fill out and leave in a basket on your gate to be collected). We also got a newspaper brought to us every morning. The villa was cleaned every day and new towels daily. The pool are in the hotel was nice too and very relaxing, even though we went to he beach more often as we personally prefer the beach, which have really lovely restaurants on them too. The spa in the hotel was FANTASTIC, we booked ourselves in for a spa day on a couples deal, we got a herbal steam, full body Thai massage, facial and a clay body wrap with complimentary herbal tea at the end all for the equivalent of about 70 Euro, which is phenomenal value as you would pay about 7 Euro in Ireland for a back massage alone in most places!! The only complaint I have t make about the hotel is that it is quite far away from things so budget to rent a car/moped too (the scenery is also amazing and is worth to have a look around) if you ask me that is not a bad complaint and i had a brilliant time in the Kirikayan here as well as in Chaweng!!!
